I'm not usually a fan of love stories but decided to pick this up as a change of pace from my usual crime thriller. I'm really glad I did as I loved the story from start to finish. It was a nice easy read with some great characters in it and I would definitely read more by this author. I highly recommend picking up a copy.
Enjoyable and engaging. I love a story told from different characters' points of view, male and female and this was a good, light-hearted story.
A beautifull written story and a real page turner. When everything started to go wrong with the wedding it made Audrey ask herself if she was doing the right thing. It was really funny at times and the characters were all very good. It really was unputdownable.
2.5 ⭐️
Audrey is getting married to Josh, but on her wedding day and the day before, all is going wrong. There’s many bad omens, the biggest being the appearance of Fred at her rehearsal dinner. Fred was Audrey’s what if guy, who she met and last saw 6 years ago. As the days go on, the story takes us back into Audrey’s past, when she met Fred and why she has certain ideas and feelings about love and marriage for herself. Audrey had to decide if she’s going to marry Josh or go with Fred, the one or the who got away.
I didn’t really love this, it was a somewhat enjoyable read, and funny at times, it did keep me reading. I think the issue comes in Audrey, I really didn’t love her or connect with her. I found her to be very immature and selfish, just all over the place, which is fine, it’s just not for me. I didn’t feel the connection between her and Josh and really don’t think they’re right for each other. The Fred aspect plays such a small part in the story, so does the general romance, I don’t feel like I got the story I was sold. This story primarily goes back and forth between Audrey debating on marrying Josh, and going back into her past life with her mother and her many marriages. I didn’t mind Audrey’s friends but her mother drove me insane. She’s a horrible, horrible person. What bothered me especially was that Audrey took all her mothers mistakes upon herself, as if it was her own fault, which didn’t make any sense to me. I couldn’t stand her mother and the forgiveness there. I feel like in the authors last three books, there’s always a major issue with the mother that I really dislike, the mother is always the “bad guy” and I really wonder what that’s about and why it’s included. I didn’t mind Audrey’s friends, but they were also selfish, especially on her wedding day making it all about themselves! This is definitely my least favourite from the author. It took me a bit to get through and I just didn’t get it or connect with it. It really isn’t a story about choosing the right guy at all. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the free preview in exchange for an honest review.
A really good romance novel, with heartwarming dialogues and character interaction. I enjoyed reading this book.
I really enjoy getting stuck into a Sophie Cousens book and this one was no exception.
This was dramatic and emotional in places, all with enough going on to keep your intrigued to find out the ending.
My reason for giving 4 stars rather than 5 is that I wanted Audrey to end up with the other man! In my mind he was such a good egg.
Since I read Just Haven’t Met You Yet , Sophie Cousens cemented herself as a must-read author for me and Before I Do was worth a read.
Taking the reader through various timelines, Cousens explores Audrey’s journey to the altar and how the arrival of Fred (the one who got away) plus the weird and wacky dynamics around the couple throws a spanner in the works.
Whilst the ‘love triangle’ aspect of this book didn’t always work for me, I liked reading about Audrey’s two love stories and how they shaped the woman the reader sees before them.
There’s a lot packed into this story but it doesn’t stop it from being one to add to your must-read list.
A really enjoyable and easy read page-turner! The blend between past and present was really enjoyable, seeing how the two interlinked in unexpected ways.
An absolutely amazing and sit up all night even though you have work read.
Brilliant tale of love, loss, who is the one and just what happens when you remember your lost live in a bright shining hue.
Brilliant read, fabulous and funny characters and completely unputdownable.
Can’t recommend it enough.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
"What if, What if, What If"
I am a fan of Sophie's books, so I was over the moon to get the opportunity to read Before I Do..
It's a sweet funny romantic read that I really recommend. I loved the characters especially Audrey and her best friend Clara and Hillary- Audrey's childhood nanny.
Thank you to the publishers Hodder and Stoughton and Netgalley for the e-Arc.
Audrey is marrying Josh, but should she be with Fred after those missed opportunities years ago? Enthralling, telling the reader what is happening now and in her past life. Really enjoyed it.
Such a heartwarming and lovely read. I really enjoyed it, and couldn’t gets enough of the characters. They where just fantastic.
The story starts with Audrey at her wedding that wasn't and is told in alternating chapters going back to hours before the wedding ceremony or years before.
I liked the back and forth of the story, slowly unwrapping the reason why the wedding didn't happen.
Overall a good read, but not Cousens best work.
Should Audrey throw everything away after running into ‘The Guy’, whom she spent one amazing day with but circumstances meant they never saw each other again?
Sophie Cousens explores whether the grass is greener in relationships, when one reaches the fork in the road about staying or leaving for something better.
This is another winner from Sophie Cousens. I loved the character development of Audrey, who is in a relatable situation weighing up her risks, trying to find clarity by the shock of running into a guy she’s always had in her head as the yard stick. If I had any quibble it might be too many past flashbacks. I don’t think I needed to see some of the,L they could’ve easily been passed off as dialogue. But otherwise this was a must by, and after reading this ARC I pre-ordered it.
What an amazing read! This book follows Audrey in the run up to her wedding to Josh. The day before the ceremony, Josh’s sister turns up with an unexpected, unknown date, and it turns out to be someone from Audrey’s past. This causes her to spiral and look back on how she met this guy, how it all relates to her upcoming wedding to Josh, and her love for her fiancé. I found it funny, endearing, multi-faceted and philosophical.
Thank you to Hodder&Stoughton and NetGalley for the advance copy of "Before I Do".
Sophie Cousens is fast becoming one of my go-to authors for a feel good, very readable book. I enjoyed the mixed timeline, flashing back to Audrey and Fred and their magical day/how Audrey and Josh got together to the present day wedding and the unfolding drama that ensues.
Audrey and Josh are tying the knot - flighty Audrey and dependable Josh, surely nothing could go wrong?!? Sophie Cousens has made a lighthearted read very engaging, with likeable characters and a witty backbone to this story.
I really enjoyed it, and Cousens is fast becoming one of my go-to authors for an entertaining, un-putdownable read. Will not hesitate to recommend.
This was a tricky one for me. Whilst I adored the premise, the characters and the pacing with the back and forth timeline, this just really frustrated me. I wanted to feel Audrey's pain and dilemma, it just utterly baffled me the fact that she was so unsure of her future with Josh based on one day with someone else 6 years ago. It felt disingenuous and forced. It was cute and comical, and had the most beautiful ending but I really found it frustrating
This book was very average for me. The back and forth between the present day and past when Audrey met Fred became tedious as these recounts happened so often. The repetition of this made the book longer than it should have been and almost made me stop reading altogether. The ending however was enjoyable as it was a different pace compared to the rest of the book. Die hard rom-com and romance readers would enjoy this book but it wasn't for me.
This book has everything you need from a good romance novel, meet-cutes, lost loves and a choice between two loves. This was a very cute book.
Audrey is about to get married to Josh. At her rehearsal dinner the groom’s sister turns up with her plus one, a man from Audrey’s past, the one that got away. Audrey starts to have doubts and in the day if the wedding a few things go wrong which she sees as a sign.
Will they get married? Family secrets are revealed, honeymoons happen but do the right people go?
This book is set in multiple timelines which I personally found confusing to start with but understand why it was written like this.
