I would like to thank NetGalley and Michael Joseph for approving me for an ARC of this book.
⛷️Set in an apocalyptic world, amidst a snowstorm, we see the lives of Hannah, Meg and Carter unfold. Three POVs, three locked-room mysteries and three different storylines all added tension to the story. I kept asking myself how all these stories could be connected and what the final reveal could be. Whilst I did figure it out before it was revealed I did have a few other surprises along the way that shocked me.
🚡 The snowy landscape gave the book a very chilling tone and added to an already tense atmosphere. From the fast-falling temperatures to the wilderness, the different characters had a lot to contend with. Seeing how they all adapted and planned their survival was interesting.
🧟A go-to topic in our household is ‘what would you do if there was a zombie invasion?’ so this book certainly gave me some more ideas. Some might be put off by the deadly virus trope, given what we have all been through these last couple of years, but I liked this unique approach to the story. The added threat of the Whistlers gave the book more tension.
🛖Overall this was a fast-paced, action-packed read. I loved switching between the different storylines and was very satisfied with the conclusion. All of the stories snowballed together to create a snowstorm of a finish (see what I did there 😉).
Let me begin by saying that this novel is very cleverly written. There are 3 separate stories running and this book is told from 3 different perspectives. As it is displayed in the blurb, we have Hannah as a protagonist of a story about the crashed coach and the events that are happening there. The second protagonist is Meg and her experiences in a stuck cable car. And the third protagonist is Carter and the events that are happening in the secluded retreat. I absolutely loved the stories and I was extremely engrossed. All of them had different characters, all were about survival and I was so intrigued to find out what linked all these stories together. There are a lot of characters but I found all of them very different and exciting, they all had a part to play in this story.
The plots were very engrossing and quite graphic. Death lurked on every corner and survival was the main topic of this book. What it takes to survive, how far are you willing to go to survive...The stories are full of surprises, twists and unexpected discoveries. The topics discussed in this book were friendships, survival techniques, relationships between strangers and there are many more, but I don’t want to spoil it.
This book was a little different from this author’s normal work. It is a dystopian mystery with horror elements, but I think she delivered this book brilliantly. The chapters are pretty short and it had me hooked, I needed the answers and I needed them now. :D As I mentioned before, this book has quite graphic deaths, so it is not suitable for sensitive readers. I loved the ending of this book, it was very well thought through. :)
Once again, C J Tudor has delivered!!!! I love her books so much. The plotting was brilliant, I was gripped from the start and I loved how everything came together. She really does keep me on the edge of my seat 😱🫣 Full of fire and guts! Definitely one for thriller fans
Survival can be murder . . .
Hannah awakens to carnage, all mangled metal and shattered glass. Evacuated from a secluded boarding school during a snowstorm, her coach careered off the road, trapping her with a handful of survivors.
Meg awakens to a gentle rocking. She's in a cable car stranded high above snowy mountains, with five strangers and no memory of how they got on board.
Carter is gazing out of the window of an isolated ski chalet that he and his companions call home. As their generator begins to waver in the storm, the threat of something lurking in the chalet's depths looms larger.
Outside, the storm rages. Inside each group, a killer lurks.
But who?
And will anyone make it out alive? . . .
This is a brilliant read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.
I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own honest voluntary review.
😱 I really don’t think I have enjoyed a thriller this much in a long time. The other people. Just W.O.W. 👏🏻 I’ve only read a few by CJ Tudor (there will be no stopping me now!!), so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I didn’t know this book was going to take me… THERE! 😬😬😬

🔎 The other people has a lot going on, it’s a complex story with a fair few sub stories that you will be wondering for a while how they all link together – don’t worry, they do.

🖤 The characters … I lovedddddddd them!
If ever an author was at the top of their game-it’s the phenomenal CJ Tudor. This is brilliant beyond brilliant. This is definitely the best yet from this author. I have no idea how a written review will do this book justice.
This is a clever and addictive read which has been impossible to put down. There are multiple parts od this one which all weave together perfectly. I have been completely hooked from the beginning of this one.
Tudor has captured my attention, pulled me in and made me crave more from the book. This is one of those books that keep you wanting more. I love how haunting and atmospheric this one has been- I have been captivated and hostage by this one.
The Drift is an intense read, filled with twists that keep you guessing. It is always completely impossible to predict where Tudor will take a book. This is definitely an interesting take on survival of the fittest.
I have devoured The Drift in one sitting. I have been completely unwilling to put this down. I have read all of this author’s books and this is definitely a favourite. An absolute must read from a Brilliant and hugely talented author.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
The Drift
A pandemic has wiped out most of the world and the ones left behind are fighting for survival.
"You are either a good guy or you're a survivor"
This was a brilliant Dystopian survival Thriller with some horror vibes and with an isolated Snow storm setting thrown In of course this is my thing!
I had high hopes for this book and it did not disappoint . This was so cleverly written and I had absolutely no idea where it was going to go. It was confusing at times but still an amazing faced paced read.
Thank you to Netgalley, Michael Jospeh and C.J Tudor for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest Review
Oh wow this has jumped to the top of my list of favourite CJ Tudor books! Utterly terrifying in its concept, utterly brilliant in its realisation, I was gripped to the page and didnt want it to end. The three strands of the storyline work together wonderfully, the horror in each situation is palpable, the characters have to make unfathomable choices- just wonderful from start to finish.
The Drift C.J. Tudor
I have read all of this authors books and I love them, this is different. The Drift is a complex story about three groups of people from different backgrounds and circumstances who are in the midst of a hideous virus that has killed millions of people. The book begins with a bus crash, a group stranded in a cable car and a group who are at The Retreat. This is one clever book, I thought I knew where it was going and I was totally wrong! Nothing is as it appears.I listened on audible and the narration was excellent and really brought the characters to life. Unlike anything that
I have read previously. If you like snowy
dystopian reads then you will love this.
I always feel very satisfied after reading a C. J. Tudor novel. Her writing and characters are always spot on for me, and her plots clever and intriguing.
It wasn't easy reading about a pandemic whilst we continue to live through a real one, however the symptoms and impact of the pandemic in the book is more severe than real-life. In 'The Drift' we follow three perspectives - one of someone living in The Retreat, a possible safe haven from the infected. The other two follow women trying to make their way there, one stuck after a bus crash and the other trapped in a cable car. All of them have to face their survival with a group of others and it's hard to know who they can trust...
Many thanks to the publishing team for my digital copy for review
CJ Tudor is one of my fave authors so I know I am always in for a treat. This book was brilliant from start to finish.
Lots of mystery and suspense and tension in the group as everyone is fighting for survival . As Always I was left pondering with lots of questions and ifs/buts as you do after reading this authors book because as such is the writing that you just lores you in to needing more answers!
The Drift - C J Tudor
I could not wait to get my hands on this new book by C J Tudor having read all of this authors previous books, and it was such a great ride! This book really felt like I was in a movie when reading it. We flick between three different situations with three different groups of characters, which kept the story fresh and exciting, and very unpredictable. I really hope this does get made into a film or series it would be fantastic. I found this a different type of book to the likes of The Chalk Man and The Burning girls which I found very eerie and chilling, this was definitely more action and dystopian future world based. Thank you so much Michael Joseph & Penguin Random House for the ARC in return for my honest opinion.
I don’t think I’ve read any books by CJ Tudor before but am now looking for them all! Really exciting book, especially following the covid pandemic, it gave insights to what could have been!
Loved the characters and that the heroes and villains weren’t at times clear. Great book!
I'm a big fan of C. J. Tudor so was thrilled to get the arc for this and it lived up to all of my expectations.
You get 3 POVs in 3 claustrophobic settings. I would say this tips over to horror as a genre rather than thriller but I'm not complaining.
I'm usually a "i bet i can guess how this is going to go" kinda gal but this book took me be surprise over and over again. Its really smart writing, I'll probably reread it again at some point to see if I can spot any hints along the way!!
This was a good read with the story told from three POV. All three main characters are in a life and death situation in the aftermath of a global pandemic.
It does make you question how far you would go if put in a survival situation.
None of the characters were particularly likeable but this did not detract from the story.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! Fantastic
I have read most of CJ Tudors books and have found them a little hit a miss for me. However this one was amazing. At first I thought it was going to be hard to rember all the charecters. Its told from three pov's and it goes back an forward between them all and the drama is right there from the being.
Loved how it slowly started to uravel and you could finally see how the three stories tied together.
Thanks to Netgalley for the Arc.
Two years ago my 3yo son bought me The Burning Girls for my birthday. The twist was amazing but between myself and my reading buddy we managed to figure it out quite early on. Far from spoiling the book I think this actually added to our enjoyment as we spent the entire book trying to figure out if we were right or not and finding evidence to back up our theories. Since then we have read all of CJ Tudors books and introduced her work to our book club who have also devoured them.
When this book was announced it was a no brainer that we were going to read it. Would we figure out the plot twist? We knew there was bound to be one!
No. Not even an inkling.
Looking back now I can see that I had thoughts, I had frustrations with certain aspects of the book and questions. All of these pointed to the twist. I'm kicking myself that I didn't see it coming. It was right there staring me in the face and I completely missed it!
Having read all of her books over the past 18 months I can say that I honestly think CJ Tudor is improving with each book that she writes. I did struggle right at the start of this book with the large number of characters but they were all so distinct that I got used to them very quickly (plus the character numbers reduced pretty quickly as well). We went backwards and forwards so many times on who to trust as everyone seemed to have something to hide.
A clever and atmospheric novel of psychological suspense. Three separate groups of people face a frosty fate during a raging snowstorm in this chilling read.
A deadly virus that either kills you, or leaves you known as something called a 'Whistler', that's the world our characters find themselves in, in The Drift. In this book we find ourselves introduced to 3 groups of people:
Hannah and some college students find themselves stuck in a snowstorm in a bus/coach that's lying on its' side, leaving them trapped without phones. Some of the students also have secrets, some of them deadly....
Meg, a former cop, wakes up in a cable car, suspended in the air, in a snowstorm, with no recollection of how she got there. There are 5 other people stuck with her and with a dead body, and nowhere to run, time is running out for her... Who can she trust?
Lastly, we have Carter, who works at The Retreat (coincidentally the same place Hannah and her bus were headed), a place where they manufacture the vaccines for the deadly virus, but soon...people start disappearing and bodies start turning up.
The Drift was really unputdownable once I started it. These 3 stories are so unsettling and chilling (literally and figuratively) that I felt the scenes in my bones. It's also interesting to see how and if these 3 scenes/stories are related or linked.
CJ Tudor is an amazing writer and I think this may be one of my favourites from the author. Her books have always been more than thriller....leaning a bit towards horror and supernatural, so that's always to be expected. There was a twist that I guessed early on, but it didn't ruin the book for me. Also the author was ruthless in this book, none of our characters were safe and I loved that even though some of it broke my heart, she went there. I think I did have a few questions at the end, but I can move past that,
Atmospheric, highly suspenseful and nail biting, I loved this thriller by C. J. Tudor. It features three separate groups of people who are not aware of each other, trapped on a frozen mountain. With a marvellous sense of location, many surprising twists and turns, and hostile group dynamics, I found The Drift shocking, chilling and immensely engrossing. Extremely highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Michael Joseph via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion.
