A cute read that gives you everything you would be looking for in an easy read. This books gives the perfect insight into the heroine's life, her ups and downs, her break -up and her sudden romance with a man she met on vacation, Ed.

Charley is living with her boyfriend of ten years, and on Christmas Day discovers that he has been cheating on her. Extremely upset, she heads to her parents house and ends up telling them what happened at the end of the night. They agree to let her stay with them as long as she needs.

But Charley is in her thirties and does need to get her life together. Charleys best friend Mads takes her to get a whole new wardrobe and then encourages her to get a haircut. Charley, the new improved version of herself, then goes out and finds an apartment to lease and a brand new car. She can't move into her new apartment until February, so her parents invite her on a trip to Antigua with them.

In Antigua, Charley meets Ed, who was stood up at the alter and decided to still go on his honeymoon. They have a quick romance, and then they part ways when they head back. Ed gave Charley his number, but her phone breaks. She is unable to get in contact with him for months, until her friend Mads finally is able to get his attention and bring him over to Charleys.

While this was a cute story, but it went very slow for me. Charlie and Ed are not introduced until almost halfway through the book. I would have loved more to the story of a Charlie and Ed, as well as more romance. I really had to push through to finish this book.

Two stars .

I read a lot of romance, and I didn’t like this one. It was overly detailed about mundane things while leaving out any emotional development or dramatic tension. I finished it without ever getting to know the main character (dental hygienist who starts dressing better?) and, as a result, I didn’t really care what happened to her.

It was a fluffy and forgettable read.

Charley finds herself alone on Christmas Day, having been dumped by her boyfriend of 10 years. Forced to move back in with her parents, she agrees to go on a holiday with them, where she meets Ed. Ed has also been left at the alter by a bride he had never met so it seems as if Charley’s life may be taking a turn for the better.
Whilst a good start to begin with, I found that the book slowed down by the middle. The characters were interesting, with Mad’s, Charley’s best friend, at times, stealing the limelight. Charley and Ed’s romance was pretty straightforward, with Ed bringing normalcy to Charley’s life.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I got 15% into this book, and I just don’t think this is a book for me. I’m going to leave this as a broad review and hope that someone can give a better insight into the book. Nothing against the book or author, just not a good fit.

When Charley finds herself suddenly single on Christmas Day, it feels like her world has fallen apart. Forced to move back in with her parents, she embarks on a journey of re-invention. When she meets Ed, who is on honeymoon alone after being jilted at the altar by a bride he's never met, it looks like her life may be taking a turn for the better. Fate, however, has other ideas, and she and Ed are forced apart. Will she find her way back to him, or are they just not meant to be?

If you are looking for a summer/beach read that does not take a lot of concentration to read and is pretty much the same as other rom-coms on the market, then this is the read for you!

I really wanted to enjoy this read, but unfortunately, this was very predictable, dragged in the middle, and neither Charley nor Ed particularly stood out for me. They were likeable enough, but neither grabbed me and pulled me into the pages.

This book is not awful; it simply lacked something special for my preferences, hence the three-star rating. I haven't been put off reading more by this author and would still consider picking up future work.

I am intrigued to discuss this with other readers and discover if this is simply a case of it's not you, it's me! If you have read this or will be reading this - please get in touch!

'Someone Else's Honeymoon' is currently free on a Kindle Unlimited subscription and is due for release on 9th August.

Thank you Netgalley & Boldwood Books for the ARC of this book!

I'm not sure I would've given this one a read based on the reviews from Goodreads. I have to say I agree with most of the average ones. It was a quick, cute easy read but overall pretty boring. I wasn't too invested in the characters and probably would have DNF'ed had I not received the ARC.

Charley wins for worst Christmas ever. after receiving the super thoughtful gift of an eco-friendly toothbrush from her boyfriend of 10 years, she finds out minutes later that he’s also been cheating on her with his coworker. shocked and devastated, she leaves their home and moves in with her parents.

with the support of her parents and best friend, Charley takes the holiday to redefine herself. after a shopping spree and complete makeover, she finds herself a suitable flat to move into while she continues to move on from her past; however, the flat won’t be available until late February. fortunately, Charley’s parents graciously invite her on their 2-week holiday to Antigua to make the time go by a little quicker.

while enjoying this paradise away from reality, Charley stumbles upon a man named Ed, who is there for his “honeymoon”; however, his wife never showed. after hearing his story about the bride he never met, the two singles share a week of relaxation and couples activities that Ed had been meant to share with his no-show wife.

it seems as though these two are destined for a great future, but life’s forces get in the way quickly, leaving both Charley and Ed confused and unsure of their future together.

this was a super quick and easy read. I enjoyed the plot and found parts of the story to be witty, but it takes literally half of the book for the love interest to even be introduced. i think I would’ve enjoyed having more Ed in the story and less of Charley’s incredibly detailed life makeover.

i found the ending conflict to be super predictable, to the point where I was rolling my eyes that the characters couldn’t figure out what was happening. i also found it a little unrealistic that Charley and Ed fell madly in love after only a few days on vacation; and I found it even more unrealistic that Charley got over her 10 year relationship & her partner’s infidelity in only a few days.

though I found a lot of the story to be a somewhat far-fetched in its realism, I still enjoyed reading it & think it’d be a cute, simple beach read! thank you to @netgalley for my advanced reader’s copy. this book is out on August 9th!

I loved this story. It made you feel happy , sad and the ending was perfect. Charlotte was the main character and her x was not nice and she moved home and her parents were ace. I won’t spoil it but a perfect love story. You kind of guessed certain bits but it did not spoil it Charlotte’s best friend was amazing. A ten out of ten perfect light romantic read

I am two frames of mind about this one, on one hand, I really liked it; it's cute and light-hearted with plenty of laughs which will keep you reading. Yet, on the other hand, It felt a little redundant, I was expecting it to be more than it was, which is a shame.
The characters are likeable and they all bring a little magic to the story, but it all felt a little forced. I will read more books by this author again, despite my personal reservations about certain aspects of the story, I did enjoy her light and cheerful (maybe a little too overly cheerful) writing.

This is the first book I've read by Phoebe MacLeod and it certainly won't be my last!

I took this on holiday with me it gave me the perfect escapism and holiday romance vibes.
I really liked the characters, and loved the humour throughout the book. This book is funny, witty, romantic, sad, happy and everything in-between. I highly reccomend picking it up to read.

Overall - This is a great romcom with likeable, well drawn characters and I loved the reference to a popular TV show.

3.5 ⭐️
Cute story, the meeting between Charley and Ed was a total meet cute. Took like 1/3 of the book before Ed even popped up, which seemed to kind of be a long time. Did like Ed and Charley’s whole relationship and even the meddling secretary situation. Overall a cute story

I enjoyed this story, it was such a fun, easy, quick summer read. I found I was interested in the storyline for the most part. I wanted to know more about the characters.

But felt this book lacked a few things. Such as this book was very tell instead of show of emotions, so I was unable to connect to our characters. But I did want to learn more about them and did love them.
This book does include the Insta-love trope. It’s the first time I’ve read an Insta-love trope. Definitely not for me, but it might be for you.
I did also feel a bit awkward in the “sex” scene (it’s a fades to black)don’t get me wrong I love spice. I just felt it was a little to soon.

The ending did have me hooked though, I had no idea how it would end. I was on the edge of my seat. But overall I ended up enjoying it

Oddly enough I preferred the first half of the book that didn’t involve any of the romance. I though surely it would be worth waiting for, but it fell flat. The relationship was rushed and not at all as fleshed out as the shopping trips that Charley and Mads went on. The pacing was odd and didn’t work in the end.

Overall, a very closed door romance, with very little romance or honeymoons.

Also, sidenote: there were several questionable instances talking about queer people and it felt like bisexuals in particular were being villainized. But maybe that’s just me.

Thank you to Boldwood Books & Netgallery for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

2.5 stars for this one rounded up.

I really enjoyed the beginning of this story and then once we got to the actual “honeymoon” mentioned in the title, the story just fell flat and I found myself losing interest.

The writing was cute, but contained a lot of fluff that did not really add to the plot of the story or provide any necessary context or value. Also, I felt the writing was a bit rushed with nowhere to go.

Synopsis: Our MC Charlotte (Charley) finds herself newly single after being in a decade long relationship with her high school boyfriend who had recently taken a job at an “eco-friendly company” which resulted in a total 180 in his as well as Charley’s lifestyle. After learning her boyfriend has been having an affair with his coworker, Charley moves in with her parents. As Charley’s parents take an annual tropical holiday, they thought it would be a great idea to bring Charley along. While on holiday she finds accidentally takes one of the lounges reserved for a couple on their honeymoon. The groom shows up and explains that he was selected to be on a reality TV show where you marry someone you’ve never met. As the bride made a runaway dash, he now finds himself on his honeymoon all alone.

Thank you to NetGalley & Boldwood Books for the E-arc!

This was cute! It had a good premise, and for the most part, I did enjoy it. However, I feel like the writing style made it feel rushed at times, which took away from the story. it had the potential to be a really great read, but I just think it wasn't really for me.

2.5 stars rounded up

This book was a linear story about a woman who was dumped on Christmas, reinvents herself and finds new love.

Charley has been with Josh for over 10 years. They met in high school and stuck together. However, things have gone south after Josh takes a very eco-conscious job which results in a lifestyle change for both him and Charley. It all comes to a head on Christmas when he presents her with a bamboo tooth brush as his gift to her. Things go downhill from there and Charley moves back in with her parents. She spends some time and money on herself and puts herself back together. Then her parents treat her to a holiday in Antigua and she meets Ed, who is definitely someone special.

So, right off the hop, this book was a straight line through the plot. No side stories, no twisting and turning. The book is written in first person, with Charley as our narrator. We don’t get real insight into supporting characters backgrounds beyond cursory details. It made for a quick read, but it also meant we spent about the first 45% reading about Charley buying a new car and buying bras. (She’s a 34C, as she mentions a few times in a single chapter.) When she finally goes on holiday it’s more of an instalove kinda situation with Ed. I think she knew him for like 3 days before she was admitting to herself that she loved him. There’s no major conflicts in the relationship (although there is a rather glaring misunderstanding) and the latter half of the book is still a relatively straight shot with no major plot deviations.

Now, I will say that this book has it’s funny moments. It’s British humour and some of the things Charley and her friends say and quite clever and funny!

Also there is zero spice. None. It is a closed door romance. I think we see kissing a couple times and there’s mention of them sleeping together but we get zero details.

On the whole I’d say this isn’t a bad book, but it could definitely be padded in some places and edited in others. I honestly think this would make an amusing one woman show type script or maybe a romcom movie. As a book it just kinda fell flat for me and I found I was skipping whole sections because I didn’t need to know what type of coffee and cake Charley and Mads were getting when they were out shopping for the fifth time in the book (flat whites and carrot cake I imagine). I’d say this is a good book for those who want a simple romcom that they could knock out in a day. If you’re looking for in depth plot and characters then I’d steer clear of this book.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

QOTD: 'Don't get me wrong, they were both lovely people and attractive. But... umm... I'm not sure I should tell you this...'
'Go on,' I urge. 'What's wrong with them?'
He looks at me, and his eyes glitter in the darkness. 'They weren't you, ' he says, simply. (Charley and Ed, Someone Else's Honeymoon)

Ed was the sweetest guy, and this quote depicted that whoever and whomever he went out with, they simple weren't Charley 😊.

BOOK REVIEW 📚

BOOK Featured:
- Someone Else's Honeymoon by Phoebe Macleod

Rating:
- ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5
- 🌶🌶🌶 3/5.

This book was a darling, it had a wonderful ratio of romance, spice, drama and comedy 💗. Charley's brutal break up with Josh has driven her to make changes in her life, but she changed for the best. Ed's solo honeymoon was something he did not see coming, but when he meets Charley, she was everything that he wanted in his life partner 👀. Ed brought out the adventurous and fun loving side of Charley, and together they were wonderful for each other ☺️. When destiny pulled them apart, we got to see many diversions but they didn't want to be with anybody else besides together 😍. However, destiny has other plans. Charley and Ed are now face to face, and even more in love 🥺.

Newly single Charley moves in with her parents and when they ask her to go on their annual tropical holiday with them she decides a holiday is just what she needs.
While on holiday she finds herself sunbathing on one of the lounges reserved for the honeymoon sweet and after discovering that the groom is their by himself they strike up a friendship/relationship.

This book had so much potential. The initial storyline was great, I liked the characters and even though it was predictable I enjoyed their getting to know each other period. However the writing felt a bit hurried at times and the Insta-love trope was out in force even though they seemed to be lacking in chemistry.

Overall the story fell a bit flat. The first chapter was humerus but unfortunately it didn’t carry on throughout the rest of the book. It was a quick lighthearted read though.
