A great book by Heidi Parks read this in 2 days. A clever mystery set in Greece which has many twists and turns which keeps you guessing.
Love the setting and you feel for the characters who all have their own stories and problems.
Highly recommend thanks to NetGalley & Random House UK for a advanced copy.

Quite enjoyed this book as it kept me guessing about whodunit right until the end. I found the story very gripping with some strong characters but must admit that I found the central character Laila, quite annoying at tines. Initially I had some sympathy with her but eventually found her to be a bit selfish and some of her behaviours were strange to say the least.

The story was in alovely setting of a greek island wich was described beautifully. however i found the plot quite week and the story was abit slow. There was alot of suspicious activitys going on but it just lacked pace and felt abit dragged out.

After several failed IVF attempts Laila and her husband James decided to take a break to a luxury island resort in Ixos in Greece. They use the money saved from their treatment to get away and recharge and rekindle their relationship, as the couple’s relationship is currently strained.
When they arrive at the 5* hotel they meet a couple who has two teenage sons. Laila likes people watching and spends most of her time watching the couple and their two sons. Her husband thinks she is jealous as they have two kids, and she has none. But instead of them both rekindling their relationship and what else as she got to do when her husband James goes off on trips on his own leaving his wife behind.
When days later one of the boys ends up dead. Laila thinks she knows who did it and explains it to the Police detective that comes to investigate.
Thank you, Random House Cornerstone, for a copy of Heidi Perks latest novel. I have been a fan of her novels since her first one. This is an intriguing novel, and I liked the premise of the story and the setting in the beautiful islands of Greece. But nothing much happened in the story and the last third of the book was disappointing. So it 3.5 stars from me.

I’m a huge fan of Heidi Perks books but this isn’t one of my favourites to be honest. I love novels set in Greece and this is a twisty “Death in Paradise” style thriller that probably wasn’t as thrilling as I’d have liked it to be! A couple of honeymooners, a family and a couple who need a break from their IVF journey are all holidaying at the same upmarket Greek resort. A body is found in the pool and the Greek police start an enquiry as we flashback to the start of the vacation.
Well written with not a single likeable character in sight, this should have been a gripping page turner but it just felt a little slow and flat for me. I didn’t hate it just found myself wishing something dramatic would happen to flip my opinion and leave me wanting more.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

Laila and her husband James are on holiday in Greece at an expensive resort. They needed the break after going through multiple rounds of IVF. This trip is a way to relax and reconnect as a couple. Except Laila is an avid people watcher. And two separate families have caught her watchful eye. Everything is great, until one of the guests turns up dead. And everyone starts pointing the finger at each other.

This story was great, and unique. Laila was a great character, and I’m sure loads of people can relate to her with her people watching fascination. We’ve all done it. Except Laila does get slightly obsessed. But she also witnesses things that others would not notice. The writing flowed really well, and the descriptions of the Greek resort were excellent.
Another well written story from this author.

A really good whodunnit. A death in paradise. Honeymooners, families and a couple struggling with their marriage. Lots of suspicious activity. Great red herrings and twists.

It’s hard to overcome some things that you thought would go well and they won’t. The characters take a holiday break in a remote and beautiful Greek island.
Why trying to bring the spark of their relationship back, she’s more of a person that will run away from her actions and emotions just to become obsessed with the neighbours. And what she may or may not witness is not really clear to me but apparently she is a big part of the investigation.
The story is well written with characters that are as unlikeable as you would expect and some very suspenseful moments when I thought I knew what’s happening but apparently I was so wrong.
Intriguing read overall

A brilliant summer read with an interesting arc and engaging characters. It will keep you wondering and definitely tickle your brain cells. All in all a good read.

Struggling to conceive, Laila and her husband book a holiday to a Greek Island. Staying at an exclusive resort, should be the R&R their relationship needs to get over the last few months but Laila seems to be engrossed in the other guests. Mainly on one family of four.

One morning, a body is found. Laila doesn’t know what to do. Police are asking questions and is it Laila’d imagination or has her husband started to act strange??

This book is a dual timeline and from a dual perspective which helps with suspense and leaves your mind wondering.

This book was a bit too slow for me overall even though it was well written with good characters.

For me personally I did lose a bit of interest in the storyline but I think that was because I wasn't gripped.

A very enjoyable read that hit me with an emotional sucker punch. The blurb didn't mention it, but from the very first chapter we realise that Lalia and her husband are on holidays to put failed IVFs behind them, and rekindle what's left of their fraught relationship.

It made the aspect of Lalia obsessively people watching everyone else at the resort very believable as it was a distraction from her own troubles. But her peeping Tom ways lay her directly across the path of a murder. It made for a tense and intriguing read, and I loved the remote Greek Island setting.

Perfect for a holiday read.

I really enjoyed this book. It was gripping, intense, thrilling, jumpy and fast paced. Would definitely recommend.

Laila and James are on a holiday of a lifetime to hopefully save their marriage. But cracks soon begin to show between them and after a body is discovered in the pool it all starts to crumble even more.
I didn't hate this book nor did I love it either, The story at parts felt very drawn out and this definitely felt frustrating when the conclusion was revealed and it felt a little lackluster. I did enjoy the setting of the exclusive resort and the concept of how people watching could get you into trouble. Overall it was okay but I will prob forget how it actually ended after a few days.

A slow burn thriller set in a tranquil location. There are twists in this but it is definitely a slow burn and is a bit dull in places as a result. I liked the different character perspectives and getting to know them and their secrets.

I'm very torn with this book, it was okay but fell a little flat as a thriller. It was all a little bit slow for me, with one woman's obsession with another family on holiday. Nothing seemed realistic and the ending was also a bit disappointing.

When Laila's husband books them a luxury holiday on a remote island in Greece, she is torn as he has spent some of the money they had saved for more IVF treatment and told her that he can't do it anymore and they need this time away to reconnect.

But when they arrive at the 5* hotel, she spends her time people watching whilst her husband goes of doing activities by himself. She becomes obsessed with one family until one of them is found dead in the pool.

Laila thinks she knows who is responsible but is she right and how can she tell what she knows, when she finds out when she did something she shouldn't.

The book follows the police investigation but is really slow and goes nowhere really.

If you like drip fed information books without the heart racing thriller feel, then this is the book for you. I felt the twists and turns were too obvious, characters not likeable either.

This book was explosive, such a great read, could not put it down, a family goes on holiday and has no idea of what’s to come…… never trust a stranger that’s for sure…

I read this lying but a pool and had already found myself people watching as Laila does in the book. I think we all make up back stories for people and this book illustrates how there is always more to a story then can be seen from the outside. The book is well written and how it turned out was not predictable as everyone might have had motive.

A good holiday read.

An atmospheric read with no idea where the story was going. Neither Laila or James were particularly likeable characters so I found it easy to put this book down and come back to it later.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.
