Absolutely loved this book, a real heart warming story about the variety girls. I read it in a couple of days, such a lovely story of the girls having to adapt to life when war is declared and how they cope without the theatres being open.

This is the second book in the series, the first being The Variety girls

In hopes and dreams for the variety girls, Jesse and Francis are the best of friends. Francis even lives with Jesse and her mom and they’re all very close, but when Winston Churchill declared war with Germany he closes down all the theaters this is very upsetting to the girls because they dance in a variety show at a local theater but they’re not going to let a little war stop them. They gather all the girls together and decide to put on a show their self and although they’re all keeping secrets one of them has a secret that is life-changing. Despite the hardship they all try to stay positive they find nude jobs and make new friends but as I say life happens and it makes for a really great book! I don’t want to say anything that’s going to be a spoiler because this is really a feel good read. I love books about friendship between women that are supportive and caring and that is definitely what this book is and more. It’s fast paced Intel absolutely no lull’s in the story. If you love books that show the strength of women then you definitely need to read this book. They say men are stronger than women and maybe physically they are but not emotionally in this book is a great example of that. A totally totally great read! You will not want to put this book down and I know people say that but in the case of the hopes and dreams for the variety girls it is totally 100% true. Do you self a favor and get this book! I received a copy from NetGalley in the publisher and I am leaving this review totally voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own.

Hopes and Dreams for The Variety Girls by Tracy Baines

As war is declared can The Variety Girls keep smiling through…
Cleethorpes – September 1939
Struggling to keep their spirits up as the reality of war hits home and theatres are closed, friends Jessie Delaney and Frances O’Leary search for work to see them through until they can sing and dance again.
Frances, once upon a time followed her dreams of becoming a dancer but soon found herself with a broken heart and a precious secret when her lover abandoned her. Keeping her secret from her friends grows more difficult as time passes and their friendship grows..
But with her lover returning to England from a successful tour of America, how long will it be before the truth comes to light?
A great follow up in the life of Jessie and Frances and it was as brilliant as the first one .
The author is very good about bringing the era alive so that you can almost feel yourself apart of it.

So glad I didn't have to wait to long for the next instalment of the variety girls, was wonderful reading how far they had progressed and from Francis side of the story this time, can't wait to read the next in the series as I would like to know how Francis, Johnny Imogen and Ruby get on along with Jessie and family and dolly and Ginnie too,
Highly recommend
