Another great royal romance from Jenny Frame. Frame's royal novels have protagonists who are always generally good, deep down, regardless of their trope within the story. The solutions are always so well thought out and feel natural within this "universe." And this is a wonderful "universe" of royals.
This story is rife with misunderstanding, drama (but not overly so), love, and heat. Frame's royal family tree expands in Royal Expose, I truly hope this is not her final work in this series.
2 stars, Poppy King wants to save everyone and she wants to do good in this world. she wants to do as much as she can but she is related to the Queen so she always has to be protected. She does not want to and really wants to just do as she pleases. She decides to go back to school and takes some classes, that is where she meets undercover reporter, Casey James who is trying to sneak into Poppy's life. Poppy is instantly attracted to Casey and her attitude. Casey is doing everything she can to try to get into Poppy's life and investigate the royal family.
I did not enjoy this novel too much. I really found it hard to continue reading. I thought the storyline was okay. I did not really like Casey and how she was getting involved in Poppy's life. Their chemistry was okay but it felt like they were attracted to each other quickly. I would not recommend this novel. it was mostly not a memorable read and the whole book felt a little forced.
3.5 stars
When you start reading a Jenny Frame book, you know what you're getting into. It's usually a butch-femme romance with 2 people finding themselves as well as each other with a little bit of spice thrown into the mix. Formulaic or not, I love her books and this 'Royals' series is no exception.
This story focusses on Poppy King, Lennox' sister from the 2nd book, and a reporter, Casey James. I thought it would be a standard 'enemies-to-lovers-to - uncovering secret identity' romance but I was pleasantly surprised. One of the villains from the 2nd book makes a comeback here and we see some intrigue and action as well. The book flows smoothly and the characters have good chemistry. You're rooting for them to get together and also hoping to catch a glimpse of their life in the next book in the series.
The best part of reading a series is that it also serves as an epilogue for the couple from the preceding book in the series - in this case, Lennox and Rosa. Their parts in the book really showed how they were as a couple and didn't just show them living happily ever after and showed the trials and tribulations that they faced too. Another perk of a series is that you're always wondering who the next MC is going to be. I think I can make a guess ;)
I would've given this 4 stars but I'm reducing 0.5 because I wish Ms. Frame had gone all in on the intrigue. She has really shown promise that she can write beyond the romance and I'm hoping we may see a mystery-romance from her sometime in the future.
Received an ARC from BSB through Netgalley for this review
sadly I did not finish this book. I couldn't connect with the story the characters or the writing & also the fact that this is a part of a series I haven't read before made everything unnecessarily confusing.
I didn't realise when I started this book that it would feature characters from Frame's Royal Romance series. I wish I did as I wouldn't have started here as it felt like I was missing key aspects to the story for the duration of reading Royal Exposé.
There was a lot to Casey's character and her decisions that felt unresolved in the end. I'm wondering if this will be covered in the next book in the series. Poppy and Casey's story was definitely intriguing, but it was the secondary storyline of Roza and Lex where I felt lost. I think if it didn't feature so predominantly I would've enjoyed this book a lot more, so fair warning to others - definitely read the Royal Romance series before beginning this new series.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for a copy of this novel. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
This was a super fun quick read for me. I loved both of the main characters Casey and Poppy. I loved all the different POV's from the characters in the story as well. Super interested to see what the next book in the series will be about.
Royal Expose is about Casey, and undercover journalist working to uncover the truth behind the Queen of Denbourg's relationship with her wife. Rumors have been swirling around about the Crown consort being the true mind behind the crown. Along the way Casey meets Poppy, the Queen Consort's sister. She gets far more then she bargained for in this investigation. When things start to unravel Casey must be quick to make a choice.
I would recommend to any fans of romance, with the added bonus of an lgbtq+ relationship !
Well, this one was a wild-ride conclusion. The plot reads like some Tom Cruise sci-fi/crime movie. But bottom line it's a story of how investigative journal, list Casey James goes on one last under cover job to get close to Poppy. Still haunted by the last under-cover job Casey falls for Poppy and questions her own ethics. Her past catches up with her and everything comes crashing down.
Some crime, some university and royal business and you have well-mixed plot and fun read.
This book was very confusing for me as it was not clear at all what I was reading. A thriller? A sci-fi? Crime book? Or is it a romance? Honestly it's all of the above and it was maybe a bit much? It took me out of the story a couple of times and there is a lot of information to process. The premise of the story is good but it wasn't easy pinpointing which way it was going.
Overall it definitely is a nice read but if you are not into one of these genres, I can see people turning away from it. These are a lot of genres mixed up into one.
An ARC was provided to me in return of an honest review.
This book was honestly a nice surprise. It was lovely to be able to re-visit some familiar faces and catch up on what they've been up to while also getting to know and love the next generation of royals. Jenny Frame has done a brilliant job by allowing us to continue on in the lives of the royals by introducing us to the next generation.
Both main characters were very enjoyable and believable. The plot caught me guessing a time or two which is always a nice surprise. And I mean there's nothing like a very loathsome villain to round it all out.
If you've read the rest of Jenny Frame's Royals books then this is a definite must read. If you haven't read them you can read this as the start of the new series and not be left behind but I'd highly recommend reading her previous Royals books as they'll just give you a much more in-depth enjoyment of this one.
Royal Expose was my first book in the series it stems from, so I don't think I'm fully able to appreciate all of the side characters as much as I might have had I known about that going in, but this was still a good standalone/first in a spinoff series.
I was hooked from the beginning, where we meet Casey as she's changing her appearance in a gas station bathroom. Admittedly the stakes seemed higher than they really were, but it was a good hook. Casey is retiring from undercover investigative journalism at the young age of 32, but her boss shows up with one last job. She's off to business school.
We then meet Poppy, who is the down-to-earth sister of the Crown Consort of this fictional country, who has finished a stint working for UNICEF and now is on her way to business school so she can create her own sustainable and ethical fashion line. But Thea, the villain and ex-girlfriend of her sister-in-law Queen Roza, wants to kill her, which complicates things.
Casey and Poppy are in the same class, and Casey's bad-boy attitude gets on Poppy's nerves from the start. But it also attracts her.
There's something I can't quite put my finger on that I didn't really like about the characters; maybe that I didn't relate to any of them or they didn't feel altogether authentic. Or I just knew where the story was going so I didn't really care about any of the conflict. But this one gets four stars, because literally every significant character is gay. All of 'em. And I think it was well done, if not my taste.
I'm excited to read more from Jenny Frame. Thank you to Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book in a new series called Royal Generations. Although it is considered the first book in the series, it does seem to thread itself through the other books which she had created regarding the royal families in the UK. I really like how she has been able to draw in the other families. It is as if you are reading about old friends.
In this series readers are introduced to Poppy King and Casey James. Poppy is the younger sister to Lennox King. We met Lennox in another series entitled Royal Romance Series book 2, where Lennox marries Queen Rosa. New series is not only a continuation of their romance, but the introduction of Poppy’s and Casey’s relationship.
Poppy King is a young woman who has dedicated her life to making a meaningful change to our society. She has recently returned to Denbough after several years of working with UNICEF to improve the working conditions in the garment industry. She has enrolled in the university to get her business degree so she can begin her own business in the fashion industry.
Casey James is a reporter. After a long, undercover assignment as a convict, Casey has decided to quit and just travel. This last assignment has really made her question what she is doing and the effects it has on her personally. Unfortunately, her mentor needs her to do just one more assignment – a royal exposé on the court of Denbourg. Her way to complete this story is to befriend Poppy.
To Poppy, Casey comes off as a know-it-all bad girl. She is attracted to and intrigued by Casey but is also leery of someone who is not serious about her course of studies. Casey, too, is attracted to Poppy, but knows Poppy is her key to complete this assignment before moving on with her anonymous, free life.
I love all the characters which Ms. Frame has created in her stories. They are all well developed, and readers will immediately want to know more about them and their families. Ms. Frame is not only excellent at building a wonderful series, but has also created several series which intertwine.
Although readers can read Royal Exposé by itself, I suggest reading at least the first two books in the Royal Romance series so as to meet Queen Rosa and Lennox King. I highly recommend this series as well as the other series. I rate this 5 out of 5 stars.
I received this ARC from Bold Strokes Books through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I can see how others would like this, but it is not for me. It's right there in the description that the central relationship is going to be built on lies, so I should have known better. The sneak until the love becomes real is not a trope that I'm comfortable with. Also, Poppy is so naïve, so innocent, a perfect ingenue. It makes it hard to take her seriously doing anything. Add in that this book is part of a series I haven't read, and it makes one hurdle too many for me to actually enjoy it.
Another great book by Jenny frame. I really enjoyed reading it as Lex and Roza are my favorite characters. The book was definitely on the short side and did leave more questions then answers with a rushed ending. The main characters storyline was far less interesting then Lex and Rozas that was very interesting. Hopefully she will write a follow up about them. You don’t really need to read the royal series to read this, but i would highly recommend it, they are great books too.
Thank you to Bold Strokes Books and NetGalley for providing me an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
Royal Exposé is a fun story with multiple strong storylines. The fast pace and likeable characters of Poppy and Casey make for an enjoyable read, with just the right amount of drama, twists and turns to keep the reader on their feet.
The use of a fictional country makes the story all that more enjoyable as we do not have pre-conceived notions of the monarchy and the fictional history adds to the intrigue of the royal family.
My one complaint about the story is the strange use of 'intelliflesh' which seems out of place and overly techy in a fairly current world.
Other than that, however, this is a solid novel and a fun read by Jenny Frame.
3.75 stars. When you’re familiar with Frame’s Royal Romance series you have a certain expectation and this book fell excellent in line with that expectation for me. A sweet romance with a little bit of action and, even though this is a spin-off, still plenty of royalty to feed my guilty pleasure.
This book is all about Lennox’s sister, Poppy, and Casey. Lennox has her own story with Rosa in Royal Rebel (book 2 in the Royal Romance series) and Royal Exposé is a continuation of their story too, so it is advisable to read at least book 2 of the series (preferably book 1 too). Casey James is an undercover journalist who’s going to write an article about Queen Rosa and royal consort Lennox. Poppy is her way in to get close to the royal family. So, Casey turns up her bad boy persona to get Poppy’s attention, but does Poppy even like a bad boy?
Poppy is easy to like and Casey’s bad boy persona is completely over the top, but luckily that’s all it is, a persona, and I liked the person underneath very much. I enjoyed their romance and since it starts with deception you’re constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. Of course, Casey’s secret comes out eventually, but Frame did not go where I had expected the story to go, so that was a nice surprise.
Rosa and Lennox have a smaller storyline than Casey and Poppy, but I found that I was equally invested in their storyline. Their relationship is once again tested and I liked to see the growth of their characters and their love for each other even when at odds.
There is also a small crime storyline as an old adversary turns up. The storyline is fun, but should not be taken too seriously. The moment of suspense was very easily resolved and in the end everything was wrapped up, but it is not explained how. Personally, I would like to see more depth to such a plot, but then again, this was similar to several other books in this series. Frame clearly chooses to mainly focus on the romance.
A highly enjoyable spin-off of the Royal Romance series that fans of royalty and romance and of the series will likely enjoy.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoy reading the Royal stories, this was a really good read. I thought the main characters had great chemistry It was also a joy to catch up on Lex and Rosa. I recommend 4 stars.
Thank you NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for this ARC.
Really good book. Loved this story from beginning to the ending. Poppy and Casey were such a great pairing, and their chemistry together was off the charts hot. This story had quite a few storylines and moments to it, but the author was able to make it all come together as one cohesive tale. There's quite a bit of murder, intrigue and family drama to keep you entertained and the supporting characters especially the villain made this a highly entertaining read. This obviously part of a series and I look forward to what's coming next from this author, and I would definitely recommend this book to my friends and family.

For the fans of the royal romance, Jenny Frame is back with another great book that'll bring back some favorites like George, Bea, Lex, and Roza.
Poppy King, sister of the Consort Queen, is back in town and experiencing some frustration as her family faces a new threat that comes with some restrictions. She did not expect that her new, arrogant classmate, Casey, would stir her world. And Casey did not expect to find Poppy while trying to find herself. With secrets between them, can they find they're way to each other?
Another great book from Jenny Frame that brings back the royal romance, It's always a nice time keeping up with these characters as they grow and face life challenges. Could have had a bit more depth in the final challenge, but all and all a great book!
I love the Royal themed series that Jenny Frame writes, this one is Poppy story which see her befriended by bad girl biker Casey.
Casey sets out to deceive Poppy and Poppy has a first meeting dislike of Casey, but these feeling soon change, add to that the thrill of the death threats and you have a really good story
II was great to also catch up on Rosa and Lex
Would I recommend: Yes if you want a thriller and romance
This is a story about Poppy King, younger sister to Lennox King and Casey James. Poppy wants to start up her own clothing line using quality materials and paying her employees an honest wage. With permission from her sister and Queen Roza, Poppy signs up for a business class at the local university. Casey James is an undercover journalist who infiltrates criminal organizations to get the scoop and send the bad guys to jail. Casey’s boss wants her to investigate the queen and her consort to see if she can find out if Lex is actually running the country instead of the queen. So Casey decides to try and befriend Poppy to get the inside scoop.
They start out as enemies and eventually become much more. Both have trust issues and of course Casey is telling a huge lie. The chemistry between the characters is there from the start
I liked this book a lot due to Frame’s witty banter and the light adventure/action in the story. Both of the MCs were very likable and fun people.
If you enjoy royalty romance books this is a fun series. I would definitely recommend reading book 2, “Royal Rebel” first.
