"Nobody from Somewhere" by Dietrich Kalteis is an exhilarating caper novel that brilliantly blends action and heart. The story follows Fitch Henry Haut, a terminally ill, long-retired cop, who finds himself thrust back into a world of danger when he rescues runaway Wren Jones from two menacing criminals. Kalteis crafts a riveting tale of survival and unexpected camaraderie as Fitch and Wren navigate their perilous escape in a dilapidated Winnebago. The characters are vividly realized, and the dynamic between the weary ex-cop and the resilient young runaway is both touching and compelling. With its fast-paced narrative and sharp dialogue, "Nobody from Somewhere" is an absolute page-turner that leaves a lasting impression. A must-read for fans of gripping crime fiction!

This was a cute book and at first, I wasn't sure where it was headed. I really liked the relationship between the "old man" and the teenager! He was the right person, in the right place, at the right time doing the right thing! I wish this happened in real life more often! This was my first book by this author but it won't be my last.

Not the best book I have listened to but not the worst
This to me felt like a dated retired American cop story I felt like I had gone back in time and if it was a film this would be in Black and White
Average story line , slow paced and a bit confusing as the narrator sounded the same for all the characters and when that happens I find myself drifting to other things and then I have to relisten to the chapter again to get the storyline but I made it to the end

I really wanted to like this novel. The story was intriguing, narrator seemed spot on for main character and had the ingredients of a great story. The language, though, was so bad that it detracted me from everything else. So many F bombs everywhere throughout. Otherwise, a fine book.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

This had some pretty good action with likeable characters. I didn't completely get into the audio version- the narrator was perfect for Fitch but it was hard if I wasn't paying full attention to realize that perspectives had changed so sometimes I got confused. Otherwise I enjoyed it.

A slow burner that creeps up on you. Found the characters to be entertaining in a strange way. Cooter is a wonderful conundrum and Ren a thoroughly tough young lady! I would recommend you take you time to absorb yourself into this novel!

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time, encountering the wrong people! This book is mainly told from the perspective of it’s 6 main characters. Retired cop, Finch, is widowed and dying of cancer. He lives in his broken down Winnebago and only has the meat loaf special at the local diner and dreams of his dead wife to look forward too. Until he encounters Wren, a runaway from an abusive foster home, who crawls into the backseat of a car owned by two local thugs in an attempt to get warm. Finch saves her from the two thugs and they take off in his Winnebago. Those two thugs and car thieves, Angel and Cooder, meet Valentina and up their game in the criminal world. She seduces a man at the casino and goes back to his room, where she leaves the door open so Angel and Cooder can rob him. Unfortunately for them, the money that they stole is from the Chinese Triad. All of these characters lives intersect as Angel and Cooder are chasing Finch and Wren, and an enforcer and Valentina are chasing Angel and Cooder. This is a fun action packed read!

The cover fits the theme of the invisible mobile population, fading into the background. But it doesn’t catch a readers eye.

My first book by this author. A blend of coming of age, golden years and a bit of action set in Canada.

I had the🎧 audiobook version. The narrator is Ron Lea. The older gravelly voice fits Fitch really well, but there’s not different voices for the other characters so no definition with who is talking. It doesn’t fit so well when Wren is talking. But I still really enjoyed it.

Fitch is an older retired cop diagnosed with cancer living a nomadic lifestyle wild camping in a recreational vehicle, referred to by locals as Boondockers. Basically considered as invisible homeless people.
He comes across a teenage runaway Wren at the time she upsets local gangsters. They are small time criminals Angel and Cooder they want retribution with Fitch, we get their POV too. They are mixed up with Valentino in a sex scam stealing from rich Asian men who are washing Triad money. Needless to say the Triad want their money back. So we get a bit of action amongst this coming of age story.

It’s very character driven we get to know Fitch, he is a widower, at peace that his time is nearly up. Wren who due to her upbringing is pretty street smart, it’s easy to engage with them and the situations they both find themselves in. The characters have good substance. I especially like Fitch. I thought that Wren’s comments were more fitting to a 12 yr old than a street savvy 15 yr old.

It’s light easy entertaining and I would recommend it.
