**"The Perfect Neighborhood" by Liz Alterman** is a gripping psychological thriller that delves into the complexities of suburban life and the dark secrets that can lurk behind a façade of perfection. The story revolves around a seemingly idyllic community, where the lives of the residents appear flawless until a shocking crime disrupts the tranquility, forcing hidden tensions and rivalries to the surface.
Alterman’s writing is sharp and engaging, effectively capturing the nuances of suburban dynamics and the pressures of maintaining appearances. The characters are richly developed, each representing different facets of life in the neighborhood, from the overachieving parents to the seemingly perfect couples. This diversity adds depth to the narrative, as the story reveals how far people will go to protect their reputations and their families.
The themes of jealousy, betrayal, and the quest for acceptance resonate throughout the novel. As the investigation into the crime unfolds, the residents are forced to confront their own insecurities and the lies they've been telling themselves and each other. Alterman skillfully explores the idea that behind every perfect façade lies a story of struggle and desperation.
The pacing is well-balanced, with a mix of tension and character-driven moments that keep readers invested in the unfolding mystery. The plot is filled with twists and turns, leading to a conclusion that is both surprising and satisfying.
Overall, **"The Perfect Neighborhood"** is a compelling and thought-provoking read that will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers. Liz Alterman has crafted a masterful story that examines the dark underbelly of suburban life, making it a must-read for those who enjoy a suspenseful and layered narrative.
In The Perfect Neighborhood by Liz Alterman, I found myself engrossed in a captivating domestic thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. Alterman's skillful storytelling intricately weaves together the lives of seemingly ordinary characters, revealing dark secrets lurking beneath the façade of suburban perfection. The suspenseful plot twists and turns had me guessing until the very end, making it difficult to put the book down. While I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense and the well-developed characters, I felt that the pacing could have been slightly smoother in some parts. Overall, The Perfect Neighborhood is a compelling read that will leave fans of domestic thrillers eagerly awaiting Liz Alterman's next release. Be prepared for twists and turns.
Highly recommend 4 stars!
The perfect neighborhood is far from perfect as this author lays out. I should have read this synopsis closer because the missing child trope is over used in my opinion. This one was just okay, I was looking for just more.
This story is told from multiple points of view, mainly Allison and Cassidy, but also the parents of the missing kids and various others in the neighborhood. I honestly could have been behind multiple explanations for the disappearances except for what actually ended up being the explanation. Also, after everything involving the kids is solved, then we get some extra epilogue style wrap up chapters and one of them is OTTM (one twist too many) or just beyond believability for me. There are also a few plot holes throughout and fairly inept police when all is said and done.
The story is told from multiple perspectives. I love the writing style of this book. This is a domestic suspense thriller with some unlikeable characters.
Thank you to NetGalley, Liz Alterman and Legend Press for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.
This wasn’t my favourite, it’s good but it’s hard to read as a mother because it preys a bit on my fear of my child being abducted.
When actress and model Allison Langley leaves her former rockstar husband Christopher in the middle of the night, it's all the neighbours can talk about. Well until five year old Billy Barnes goes missing on his walk home from kindergarten. His babysitter was supposed to have met him but was running late.
Told through multiple POV's, you soon realise that it most definitely is not "The Perfect Neighbourhood." There are lies and secrets and no one is as they appear to be.
A must read book.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
A masterful mix of tension and intrigue that grips you from page one and keeps hold until the final page.
Wow this book is a kaleidoscope of twists & turns that make your head spin but you turning pages faster to find out more of the story!!!!!!!! This is my first book by Liz Alterman and wow this author will go far!!!!!
The disappearance of your child….it’s every parent’s worst nightmare! This book was really engaging and well written and I didn’t want it to end! All of the characters were complex and I really didn’t know what the conclusion would be until really for into the book. A really great read about the perfect lives you think surround you and the reality that actually lives under the surface.
I really enjoyed this one. It's a great thought provoking thriller. There was so much going on. I love a good domestic suspense. One thing I didn't like was that I didn't find any of the character likable so I didnt really feel myself rooting for them. There was the usual nosy and gossipy neighbors. I liked that there were multiple POVs, that kept it interesting. There were alot of suspects, It starts off slow but it does pick up. It was a page turner that I would recommend those who enjoy domestic thrillers.
I thought it was ok. See previous review on this book. I didn’t notice there were multiple versions of this book.
''Liz Alterman’s engrossing novel is a thought-provoking read about the dark side of suburbia and the secrets of close-knit communities, perfect for fans of Joshilyn Jackson. When actress and model Allison Langley leaves her former rockstar husband, Christopher, in the middle of the night, it’s all her Oak Hill neighbors can talk about. The gossip comes to an abrupt halt when five-year-old Billy Barnes goes missing on his walk home from kindergarten. Billy’s mother, Rachel, blames herself for being at work and letting her only child walk alone. Cassidy, Billy’s teenage babysitter, was also late to arrive on the afternoon he disappeared and blames herself for his disappearance. As the clock ticks down, police are unable to find any trace of Billy, forcing Rachel to ponder the enemies she’s made in their well-off suburb. Could it be one of her neighbors who stole her son? Would they abduct Billy to hurt her? How easy would it be to take a child while the parents or nannies are distracted?''
The story unfolds primarily from the perspectives of Allison, Rachel and Cassidy, with an occasional chapter from the other Moms, who shed light on all of the possible suspects.
Bombshells are revealed through conversations and will have you changing your mind about who may be responsible for what happened and why.
The women seem like people you could meet and the story like one you could read about in the headlines tomorrow.
I gravitate toward the NEIGHBORHOOD stories that fall into the category of domestic suspense, and if you do as well, this is DEFINITELY one worth adding to your TBR list!
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
While this was not the best book I have ever read, it is not the greatest either. It is very anti climatic. The ending is one you don't see coming, however. But even when you find out the ending- it still does not make it a WOW moment. Do I recommend it- sure. If you have 0 books on your TBR shelf. Not one you need to rush out to read.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. I was able to find the audio version through my local library app. I have to say that this novel kept my interest the whole time. I think though for me at least I knew who the culprit was though and the novel kind of ends on a cliff hanger? Or the audience is suppose to guess which way it could go? But all in all I read this book in 24 hours and if you like a good mystery novel you might want to check this one out.
I wasn’t sure about this st first. Felt like too many characters to keep track of and was a bit slow but once I got into it I really thought it was great
This book was an easy read but still a really good thriller. I enjoyed it and would recommend if you like thrillers but you don't want something too heavy.
Thank you to Liz Alterman and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I love books about neighborhood/domestic gossips and drama, this is what catch me to read this book. It was quick read and if you love gossips you need to check this book out.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of The Perfect Neighborhood by Liz Alterman.
This is a novel about a missing boy in a well-to-do neighborhood, told in the perspective of multiple people It has a strong start. There was a socialite wife who had just left her husband for unknown reasons, who is also fixated on this little boy, the mother of the missing boy, and the sitter responsible for losing him. Through their eyes, we are finally able to untangle the mess of secrets and lies that have been led to this boy's disappearance.
A strong start, but an ending that got weaker and weaker. I just couldn't buy it. I love a clean, wealthy community with a dark underbelly, but I just couldn't get into this one.
This book is targeted at a younger audience. However it still possesses good attributes and qualities of a great thriller.
