I love fairytale re-tellings. Super cute and unique read definitely felt geared more towards a younger YA audience but still enjoyed it!

This was unfortunately a DNF for me: I was not in the place to read it at the time, I will try to give it another chance in the future.

I actually enjoyed this more than i thought i would!
The little Mermaid is one of my favourite fairy tales so when i saw this book i wanted to read it.
I love that the bad guys now have a back story and they are fighting to be seen and heard and this book gives Ursula a different reflection with the story that unfolds before your eyes.

This is an unputdownable read make sure you clear the day because The Inked will draw you in and hold you tight to the pages!

This was a great book for a young audience, but it didn’t feel very YA to me. It felt much more like a middle-grade novel (which isn’t a bad thing as I don’t mind middle-grade books) but I feel as though it is labelled wrong. It is still a decent book for a younger audience than is advertised.

A retelling of The Little Mermaid and Atlantis that was congested with too many thing happening at once.

The plot lacked any intrigue to keep me focused on reading and the narrative style felt disjoined in parts, particularly the switching of POVs.

However the concept of oceanic outcasts from Atlantis banding together was an interesting creation that utilised a retelling of Ursula. Creative but predictable.

I would recommend this for pre-teen/early teenage readers transitioning between MG and YA, as well as taster for retelling genres.

Thank you to NetGalley and The Wild Rose Press for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Banned from Altantis for being born with tentacles instead of a mermaid's tail, Yuri and her sisters live together in the ocean. When Britt wanders into forbidden territory, the three encounter Kaleb - one of the Atlantean princes and get caught up in a quest to claim the throne.

I really enjoyed the premise of this book. I usually like fairytale re-tellings. The Inked was a little hard to follow - switching perspectives and plot lines quickly without clear delineations in the text. I don't know if this was because of formatting issues with the ARC or if the book just needs a little editing. The insta-love between Kaleb and Yuri seemed far-fetched to me (maybe in keeping with the trope). As always, your mileage may vary.

Unfortunately, I never really got into this book. I thought the concept of it was really cool and the prospect of Atlantis has always been exciting and mysterious for me. I felt that this book was longer than it needed to be and I found it quite boring. I don’t think I was the target audience for this, but can see why others would love it.

Honestly I DNFed it. It read more like a middle-grade fantasy, which is fine in it of itself, but it was labeled YA, so I was disappointed.

It has potential to be a great middle-grade book, but I’m just not the audience for that sort of thing.

This is like if Prince Eric fell in love with Ursula instead of Ariel and I am here for it.

Super cute and unique read, definitely felt geared more towards a younger YA audience but still enjoyed it!

Parts of the narrative felt choppy but I am going to chalk that up to reading a non-finished version that wasn't formatted correctly.

Unfortunately, I could not get into the writing style of this novel.

I won't give a real star rating as I haven't read enough to judge the story itself.

Hopefully, I will start this book again someday as the story sounds really good!

The Quick Cut: Three sisters with tentacles instead of a mermaid tail live secluded. Their lives end up in danger when they become the attention of the King of Atlantis.

A Real Review:
Thank you to Wild Rose Press for providing the ARC for an honest review.

There is so much more going on under the surface. While it's easy to look at what you can see and judge, everyone has a part of their lives that only exist internally. In this story centered on three girls with tentacles, that is very true when they become the focus of hatred for Atlantis.

The Inked are a highly misunderstood people in the ocean. Banished from Atlantis, they are hated for supposedly having dark powers and using them against others. The King's son finds this to not be the case when he meets them on a beast hunt. Except this chance meeting ends with everyone in danger. Can they find their way out? Or get destroyed in the process?

This story intrigued me because the description of the book sounded like a unique take on the usual ocean fantasy. However, as I started reading, I found it weighed down by the usual tropes that ended working against it's unique concept. I wish the author here would have learned into their unique idea more.

The book had tropes aplenty to fill the 300+ pages of this fantasy story: evil ruler, evil twin, misunderstood race, fight to the death, and kidnapping. While a few of these are to be expected with any story, it's the number that worried me here. With such a high amount, it took away opportunities to flesh out the characters and give the reader a reason to fall in love with them. Don't get me wrong, this is a good story at the core. I just think it could have been even better.

Yuri is our central sister and the one most at the center of the drama. She was the one I liked best because she believes in the benefit of the doubt. When history told her to trust no one, she gave one of the Atlantis princes a chance to get to know her people better. It sets off a very unexpected turn of events that leads to a hopeful future.

A unique story weighed by too many expected plot points.

My rating: 3.5 out of 5

2 stars. This one just wasn't for me, but those who love a Little Mermaid retelling might find the good in this one. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

When Yuri and her two sisters make a bargain with an Atlantian Prince they get more trouble than they bargained for. Mistaken identity, castle shenanigans, and a sprinkle of romance ensue.

This is just not my week for books! I hate writing a 2 star review, but the task has come multiple times this week. The Inked presents a new spin on sea life and Atlantis. My biggest issue is that there are so many characters, points of views, back stories, and powers to try to understand. I felt a bit like I was watching a wrestling match between two people, but they just kept tagging in partners until they all suffocated each other from overcrowding. No one won in the match, even the viewers. While I acknowledge that this author is inexperienced, I wish the publisher would have given them a tentative three book deal so these plot lines and characters could have the time they deserve.

I really wanted to love this one, but it just fell flat, 2 stars. Recommended for readers 12+ who love The Little Mermaid or fairy tale retellings.

I really enjoyed the idea but there were a few strange references that just didn't fit the story and took me out of the world the author was trying to create. I will gladly read the next book, the storyline is really interesting.

This book had me GRIPPED, Kristina Streva did not disappoint and I was fully invested

The relationship between Yuri, Britt and Tanis was SO GREAT TO READ ABOUT - as a sister to 2 I felt the love and could relate to the fierce protective instinct Yuri has

The plot progressed very well - I loved the fact that a 'hunt' aspect was involved in this story (a trope that ALWAYS draws me in)

I received an arc from NetGalley - all opinions are my own
