Romance at its best!! The magic between the characters was absolutely the best! Their story a wonderful thing to read!
Yes it’s a series, but each book can be read as a standalone. Although the cast of characters are in each book, which is like a reunion if one reads the previous books. This time we get to know Dougal story and learn he is a spy for the Foreign Office. Jessamine, who is trying to convince her parents at 25 years old she is on the shelf, a spinster! Was approached by the FO for her skill at ciphering, she was needed to decode a letter and help to discover if the couple in question were French spies. The only hiccup was she needed to pretend to be married to Dougal and worse was she was to see if he is loyal to the Crown.
The story touches several interesting topics and will have you turning pages quickly. A little heat and of course the HEA. Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #Irresistible
Yay, another story in the Phoenix Club series! Although I was rooting for Evie’s story (with Lucien of course), I was also delighted to see that Dougal MacNair got his own story.
And a hilarious spy story no less! Dougal gets partnered with Jessamine Goodfellow, who has just been recruited by the Foreign Office. They have to pose as a married couple to investigate another couple, who are allegedly working as spies for Napoleon. These characters are actually the funniest ones in the book. I highly enjoyed Gil and Mary’s behavior and witty comments.
Furthermore, a lot of the Phoenix club members make an appearance: Tobias and Fiona (Improper), con and Sabrina (Impassioned), Ruark and Cassandra (Intolerable), Ada and Max (Impossible) and of course Lucien and Evie. And although you can read it as a standalone, I would highly recommend that you read the whole series. Of course I will read the next stories in the series as well: Impeccable, about Evie and Insatiable about Lucien. Unfortunately Evie and Lucien don’t end up together, but I am curious about their stories. Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc
Irresistible was engaging and fun. I enjoyed the progression of Jess and Dougal’s story from a professional relationship to a wonderful one. Both are strong, likeable characters, their rapport and flow together worked really well here. While the story is mostly centered on the main characters and their mission, the secondary characters in this novel are just as well written and it all makes for enjoyable reading.
One nice aspect is that you don’t need to have read the series to enjoy this on its own; it’s successful as a stand-alone, but considering I’ve appreciated and looked forward to the entire series thus far, and continue to do so, I really do suggest reading the entire series.
4.5
OMG this series it’s sooo good!!! And this is no exception.
Jessamine Goodfellow has spent six Seasons avoiding the parson’s trap, and spinsterhood is finally within her grasp. Presented with the opportunity to use her puzzle-solving talent on a secret mission for the Foreign Office, Jess eagerly accepts. Even when it means posing as the wife of a scorchingly attractive Scotsman who she must also covertly investigate as a possible double agent. Lord Dougal MacNair, the new Viscount Fallin, has always completed his assignments for the Foreign Office alone. Now he’s saddled with an overly enthusiastic amateur partner. Now Dougal and Jess must dive deep into their cover as a married couple, which arouses temptations they find irresistible. Danger is all around them, but it’s their hearts that may be the most imperiled.
This is a great book. I loved Jess. She is smart and sure of herself. Dougal has a lot of personal issues to resolve. He’s in morning and he has to accept being black in an almost white society. Including his parents.
Both characters are really well developed and have all this interesting layers. It was beautiful to peel each one of them along the way. Their time together as spies was funny and engaging. They are really good together. I’m a sucker for ‘one bed’ troupe. Also, the side characters are amazing and I loved the sexy times.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Another highly entertaining and compelling novel by Darcy Burke. I had fun and rooted for the characters.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Hi i read this book and i died, this is my ghost talking, the cause of death is this book, I REALLY LIKED IT, i am big historical romance lover, and this book was just amazing, it bring the heat, the drama, everything a romance i love, please GIVE IT A CHANCE YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
A regency romance with a touch of espionage. A great addition to the Phoenix club series, which can be read as a stand-alone book. Not sure that the mixed race angle really works historically but would be nice to think Dougal was as accepted as portrayed.
Irresistible by Darcy Burke is a historical romance novel & book 6 in the Phoneix Club series. This is the first book I have read in this series & can easily be read as a stand-alone but I’ve also read other books by this author & really enjoyed them. I recently watched Bridgerton season one & so I’ve been craving a good historical romance & this one delivered!
The heroine, Jessamine, is struggling to convince her parents that being single is the future she wants after six Seasons. She’s brilliant with a mind for puzzles & would much rather be matched with a cypher than a suitor at the moment. She is then recruited to utilize her skills for her country & asked to go undercover for the Foreign Office. During this clandestine mission, she must be fake married to Lord Dougal MacNair. He’s used to working missions alone & in the midst of dealing with grief from loss of a loved one, but for this mission, they must transform to a lovely married couple. What happens when sparks fly during this charade & chemistry doesn’t require as much acting as they thought?! Read this wonderful book to find out!
I enjoyed the strong heroine & the chemistry between these two. I love a good spy story, so I was hoping for a bit more thrilling action personally. I still think this is a lovely romance novel though! Also, please check out this beautiful cover!
This is a historical romance that makes me want to dive deeper into this genre that I don’t typically read much of! I was smitten
Irresistible by Darcy Burke is out now!
Massive thanks to NetGalley & Zealous Quill Press for giving me the opportunity to read an arc of this in exchange for honest review.
Trigger warnings: This book mentions &/or contains death of a loved one & sex.
The sixth book in the Phoenix Club series, a well written story that held my interest throughout. Jessamine Goodfellow and Lord Dougal MacNair, the new Viscount Fallin have to work together on a case for the Foreign Office. The story was fun to read story that is steamy with drama, secrets, twists, turns, villains and romance. I want to read the next book. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
4 1/2*STARS*
Spies and lies bring an unlikely couple together to investigate if Mr. and Mrs.Chesmore are spies for France. Jessamine Goodfellow is discovered by the Foreign Office to have an extraordinary skill in solving cyphers. Partnered with Dougal MacNair, already an agent, they will work as a married couple to investigate. At the same time, Jess is requested by the Foreign Office to determine Dougal's loyalty. The Chesmores are very much in love and have amusing ways of showing it. Jess and Dougal have an intense attraction to each other, which creates some complications with their job. Sharing a bedroom leads to passion and the lady who wanted to live a spinster may change her mind for the right reason. Humor with the Chesmores and angst between Jess and Dougal.
Heat level 4
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book; this is my freely given opinion.
This is the 6th book of the Phoenix Club series. This is the story of Dougal McNair and Jessamine Goodfellow. Dougal was frequently mentioned in the previous novels as a good friend and in the core group of friends of Lucien, but was often on the sidelines, or having a very brief appearance. I do not remember his colour or racial background being much of an issue or topic previously - well, other than his being Scottish, and preferring real Scotch whiskey over the Irish stuff (something I don't disagree with myself really...)
So I was rather excited to see the cover showing a very ethnic Dougal and how that story was going to play out - and it was quite interesting. No spoilers, but let's just say that I really appreciated the loving, open, and accepting way his acknowledged father, the Earl of Stirling, considered family. This is partial to my heart as my father is adopted (in a way - think of the generation of Canadian Chinese head tax/bachelor husbands/paper sons route of adoption), my husband is adopted, etc - so I appreciate several levels of this - the fluid, but all-embracing definition of family and love, the diversity, the loving, progressive, and fierce love the Earl demonstrates. I found it so touching and heart warming. I would have loved to have seen that explored more, especially in contrast to the coldness and overwhelming overbearing attitude of Lucien's father.
But regardless, the Earl is actually a rather small part of the story, though family, duty, family loss, and his own identity are large themes in Dougal's story here.
Dougal has spent the past several years of his life acting as a spy for the Foreign office and he has returned to London to perform one last mission before taking up the reins as his father's heir, and the current title of Viscount Fallin, after the passing of his beloved father. He is conflicted as he knows he is not born of his father, despite being raised and loved by the Earl as if he was borne of his blood. He is also deeply sorrowful of the loss of his brother and having difficulty coming to terms with it and dealing with his emotions, as well as coping with the change in his life and having to give up a role he has come to love. Another conflict he is facing is determining why two of his recent missions ended up failures - he is suspicious that there may be a breech of his own network.
Jessamine Goodfellow is a mature young lady with a love and talent for solving riddles and ciphers. She has also been on the marriage mart for several seasons, and has been doing whatever she can to kibosh her mother's plans on marrying her off. She has long standing plans to be a spinster, especially after her parents ruined her own marriage plans when she was younger. Her abilities have caught the eyes of members of the Foreign Office and she is groomed and recruited to go on a mission with Dougal to investigate a couple on the coast as potential spies.
Dougal is less than pleased, after all he has never had to have a partner before, and he has no desire to babysit a newbie, eager, inexperienced spy-in training, especially for likely his last mission. They are supposed to act as a married couple to get close to the couple being investigated. After spending some intimate time together, pretending to be a couple, Jess and Dougal learn more about each other and to appreciate one another, as well as realizing a strong physical attraction (of course, this is a romance after all).
This was a very enjoyable read. I really enjoyed the incorporation of family and race in the story, and the very progressive way that Dougal was raised by his father, and the obvious love and respect that is there in the family. I found it very warm and touching, and wish there was more of it spread around, especially to Lucien and his family. As always, I do enjoy adding a bit of colour to the mix - as a woman of colour and part of a mixed race relationship too, that is something that always catches my eye in a historical novel. Not everything has to be pale beauty this, milky this, ivory that, etc... Caramel, mocha, and chocolate are delicious too after all! I enjoyed the spy element of it and the humorous undertone to some of their investigation. It was a bit of a different story line and the way the investigated couple was portrayed was quite amusing and cute. I quite like how Jess and Dougal's relationship developed, with the forced proximity and intimacy forcing them to share of themselves, but also for Dougal to learn to appreciate Jess and her intelligence too, despite her being such an ingenue to the spy trade. All in all, a fun, warm, and enjoyable read.
4.25 stars out of 5
A spinster with a flair for solving puzzles and a spy, now viscount, come together in this romantic suspense novel. While this story wasn't as spell-binding as the other books in the series, the quick-thinking Jessamine and the broody Lord Dougal make for an interesting pair. I greatly enjoyed this fast-paced romance and look forward to reading more books in the series.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this new novel.
I should have done a better job looking into this before I downloaded it because this is the sixth book in a series...but also, I don't like reading books that written in old English with a Scottish accent. I have read books by Darcy Burke before and enjoyed them but this was not up my alley, unfortunately.
Another awesome addition to the Phoenix Club series!!
This time it's Dougal and Jess falling in love with each other. This was a different storyline which was written beautifully with very interesting characters.
I did have some questions and comments but not very important. So this gets a whooping 4.25 stars.
Definitely looking forward to Evie's story.
Note: Received an ARC in exchange of honest review.
This is a part of a series but can be read as a standalone.
Another good book by Darcy Burke- part of a series, Irresistable is a story of Dougal, a reluctant heir to an earl and Jessamine, an aging debutante who only wants to reach spinsterhood so that she can live an independent life. The two characters are drawn to each other while they work as a couple for the foreign service investigating a married couple who are suspected of spying for the French government. As expected, Darcy weaves a romantic tale with the right amount of spice and mystery to keep you reading until you reach the end of the story. I am anxiously waiting on the next installment in the series. I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley and Zealous Quill Press and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I'm normally reluctant on espionage stories but Darcy Burke put it to good use and with the Phoenix club I felt like I couldn't put it down.
.
Dougal is at a crossroads, having just lost his brother he has to return to Scotland and take his place as heir to the title but before returning home he has unfinished business, two of his missions as a spy for the crown ended badly and now that a new mission arrives he has to take a new risk trusting his new partner
.
Jessamine Goodfellow is waiting for her parents to give up and let her be an spinter, but when a strange man recruits her to solve puzzles and codes, she decides to take on as many adventures as possible
.
Jess and Dougal find themselves paired up pretending to be husband and wife to uncover the truth, and with the chemistry between them, they may be taking a risk they weren't counting on
.
This is a fake relationship, one bed only, in the exclusive Club Phoenix, it can be read as a standalone but the series is very good and each story hooks you more with all the other characters and the club, and you would want to read everyone

Thanks to Darcy Burke and Zeaquill Press for give me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange for my honest opinion
What could be better than an almost spinster being teamed up with a seasoned member of the foreign office to help ferret out spies? Well when that man is a Scot, who has newly inherited a title, it does not get much better!
Dougal is on his last mission and really wants to find out what went wrong on two previous ones. When he finds out he is teamed up with a woman cryptographer, and has to pretend to be married to her as their cover, things just might get tricky.
Jess just wanted to be a spinster and does as she wants, so when this chance comes up she is very happy. What she didn't expect was her attraction to Dougal.
A delightful addition to this amazing series and one you do not want to miss!
Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to read this story. Jessamine has spent 6 seasons not getting an offer so she has decided to be a spinster and forget it. She likes to figure out codes and the Foreign Office has asked her to help.
Lord Dougal McNair has been with the Foreign Service and is doing one last operation and then going home to Scotland. They are to act as husband and wife to see if a couple are spies. They are attracted to each other but her plans stand in their way. Then one night plans change and they are going to marry. How they get to this decision is what the story is all about.
Dougal McNair is a spy for the Foreign Office. He is about to go his final assignment before he returns to Scotland as the new Viscount Fallin. Jessamine Goodfellow, a talented cryptographer, is on the cusp of achieving her goal of spinsterhood when the Foreign Office calls on her to partner with Dougal on this mission. They will pretend to be husband and wife. They can keep it all professional, right? Dougal and Jessamine have an exciting and engaging story. It is filled with drama, humor, action, and romance. The characters are great. Lucien and other friends from the Phoenix Club made an appearance. I liked Dougal’s Da and the rest of his unconventional family, and the way they interacted. The romance, well, it went from slow burn to sizzling hot. A fantastic addition to the series.
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
