This is a gripping thriller. The story is told over a dual timeline. There were lots of tension.
This was an addictive read. The short chapters made this a fast paced read
A fast paced thrilling read that never lets up and keeps you in suspense. I think this would make a great drama. I can't wait to read more from the author based on this.
Unfortunately I was unable to read and review this book as I was approved and it was archived straight away
A good thriller with a good premise and enough twists to keep me hooked! A very enjoyable read, will watch out for more books by this author.
Wow what a fantastic book with twists and turns all over the place such a good book I would definitely recommend it
Stay Awake was a cleverly plotted thriller that I really enjoyed and one of the best in this genre I've read for a while.
Liv Reese wakes in the back of a taxi with no memory of how she got there and soon finds that there are strangers living in her apartment and that she has a blood stained knife in her pocket. Meanwhile two detectives- Halliday and Lavelle- are investigating the murder of an unknown man in an Air B and B rental and Liv quickly becomes their prime suspect.
I loved this original thriller and it kept me guessing throughout. There are so many twists that my head was spinning at times. I loved the dual narrative from Liv's point of view and the investigation from the two detectives point of view. I loved the character of Halliday and the relationship between her and Lavelle.
A compelling and gripping read that I'd highly recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.
I really enjoyed this book.
I thought Liz was a robust character and appreciated that the premise of this story wasn't one that I'd come across like this before.
A thriller with lots of twists and turns that ultimately centre on a common nightmare of waking up and your life looking vastly different to your expectation and experience.
Stay Awake by Megan Goldin was an excellent Psychological Thriller from start to finish and I really enjoyed this one by Megan. Once I started to read Stay awake I stayed awake and ended up reading this until I finished! What a book this was it was fast paced, a great page turner that had me hooked again with great twists and turns that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat.
I highly recommend Stay Away and a great Holiday read.
Big thank you to Netgalley, Canelo the publishers for my ARC for an honest review.
I loved Night Swin by Megan Goldin, it remains one of my best thrillers. I enjoyed Stay Awake, I liked piecing together things as I went along and trying to understand what was happening. Goldin does a good job at keeping the reader engaged without giving away TOO much.
I was lucky to get the ebook and audiobook of this one! I have enjoyed Goldin's previous books so was excited to get stuck in!
This was a great premise. It screamed Memento vibes to me. (Great film by the way. You should watch it if you haven't seen it!)
I started with the audiobook and soon switched to the ebook. I think the narrator was trying to add suspense but seemed to come across as hysterical. I am a massive fan of Imogen Church, so I'm not sure whether it was me! When I switched formats, I enjoyed it much better!
There was some frustrating elements to the plot, and the pivotal one 'why write stay awake on your skin?' couldn't you have saved some voice recordings on your phone? But then as the book progressed my frustrations were eased and I ended up really enjoying it!
I enjoyed the first half of this book as it was interesting and fast paced but the second half was a bit slower and repetitive. The constant back and forth was difficult to follow in parts and the ending was really unsatisfying. It was never explained why the murderer did what they did…
Liv wakes up covered in blood, sleeping on a par bench and unable to get into the home she shares with her room mate. With massive gaps in her memory and the feeling that something terrible has happened this book slowly unfolds to reveal the terrifying truth of Liv's situation; what has happened to her and is someone now looking to harm or or more worrying is she the one who has caused the harm?
I loved the view point of both Liv and the detectives investigating the murder. As the story unfolds and the terrifying truth is slowly revealed a paranoid and almost claustrophobic atmosphere closed in and I couldn't stop reading until both Liv and I knew the truth; a 5 start read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review
I enjoyed this book, it was easy to read and held my attention. I will be reading more from this author :)
I knew that Goldin's next release would be on my must read list as soon as I finished The Night Swim so to say that I had high hopes would be an understatement. Luckily, Stay Awake far exceeded my expectations.
First of all, it was a fantastic thriller. It had a narrator that you're constantly questioning as unreliable, jaw-dropping twists and reads just like a movie. To the point that I wouldn't be surprised if this was already being considered for an adaption. (It's THAT good!)
I'll be eagerly awaiting all of Megan Goldin's future releases.
This book was amazing from start to finish I really loved it and would reccomend this author 1000 percent lots of twists and turns!!!!!! Loved it so so much:) defo 10/10stars ....characters was brilliant and plot was well thought !!! I cant reccomend this book enough thank u so much I'm recommending to family aswell :)
A psychological thriller, fast moving at the beginning and end of the book, parts were slow moving . I liked the premse that Liv has amnesia after a traumatic situation, though you can perhaps guess what happened, the actual events are revealed gradually.
The book is told from Liv's p.o.v and that of one of the detectives . Interesting because Liv is not a reliable witness because of her amnesia and the detective has suspicions that she is the murderer. THe book is confusing at times, but that reflects the situation of those involved. It kept my interest pretty much throughout the book
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
This was a truly thrilling read with psychological thrills littered everywhere.
I think I connected immediately with Liv and I was terrified for her at every point.
This author is fantastic and writes women convincingly ( not something to be taken for granted)
Absolutely loved this book and Megan Goldin is fast becoming an auto-buy author for me. I loved the mystery and the premise and the fact that the story didn't go where I thought. it was fast-paced and addictive to read.
An exhilarating and totally satisfying read. I read it breakneck fast, such a brutally good page-turner. Yet another fine outing from a great author. It hits the ground running and the pace never misses a beat. An absolutely gripping thriller that will keep you reading late into the night, unable to put the book down for a second.
I heard about this book from different reviews and I was delighted when my request got approved via Netgalley.
I have never read any of the authors novels before and I really enjoyed this novel. I will be reading more of Megan Goldin's books from now on.
We meet main character, Liv, who has a condition where when she sleeps she wakes and does not remember anything. She has not lived like this all of her life but just for the last two years. She wakes to find a knife in her pocket that has blood on it and she literally has no idea about how it got there.
There is a body found in an Air b&b and we meet Detective Darcy Halliday who is assigned the case and ends up trying to find Liv as she thinks that she is part of the murder.
I do not want to give too much away but we do find out how Liv became the way she is and we follow her on this journey of self-discovery (like literally) as she tries to uncover why things are not the way they used to be and she desperately tries to search for her boyfriend and best friend.
I enjoyed the characters very much and I found myself really rooting for Liv to uncover why she is the way she is and to get help. I literally could not read this fast enough as I found it a very intriguing and enthralling read.
Thanks to NetGalley, Megan Goldin and the publishers for allowing me a copy of this novel.
