Amazing reading experience. This book surpassed my expectations. Short chapters kept me reading this book quickly. I read it in one sitting. I had to know what was happening. Great mystery thriller.
Liv has lost her memory and feels that something dreadful has happened but she doesn’t know what.
A enjoyable story about murder and manipulation that keeps you guessing.
Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
O wow , I absolutely loved this book , full of tension and intrigue all the way through . Ive heard about this medical condition of not remembering every time you wake up , must be horrible to suffer from it . I didn’t expect the ending at all . I would definitely read another from this author . 5 star ⭐️
This was a good thriller. It was a really good storyline too, something a bit different. I found it to be fast faced and it kept me turning the pages quickly. I didn’t guess the perpetrator either until the end!
I’m looking forward to reading more by this author.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.
I haven't read many books by the author but I’ve seen this one recommended on here a lot and had to read it myself as well.
And what a ride this one was! I got goosebumps while reading this story and the more I was turning the pages, the more I had that dreaded feeling that something bigger was going to happen soon.
There were a few things that made little sense or just felt unbelievable, but overall the story flows smoothly and kept me engaged til the end.
It's a must-read book in other words.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley
Great plot to get yourself lost in. This book has everything. A real fast paced thriller. Will get your heart racing on more than one occasion. Very well written. Highly recommend this book
The book was very well written and flowed well. The plot was great. Everything I thought it would be from the description
I’m a big fan of Megan Goldin and the premise of this sounds amazing, almost sci-fi ish without the heavy sci! A woman wakes up in a taxi with no memory and a scrawled note on her arm that tells her to stay awake…
The idea was great, but I found some of the chapter endings pretty jarring, almost as if they were ended in the middle of a paragraph. This was mainly right at the beginning. I’m unsure if it was stylistic, but it left me feeling really awkward, like something had been forgotten.
Although h felt like the twist and reveal were pretty obvious, I enjoyed the last 50% much more than the first half.
my first book buy this author and i so very much enjoyed its just so gripping and addictive Liv is a very successful job at Cultra magazine she shares an apartment with her best friend Amy. Liv has a new man in her life Marco. then strange things start to happen in the apartment and Liv is scared. then one night Liv wakes up next to a dead man in her bed and she has no memory of what happened. but Liv can not go to sleep as every time she does she forgets everything. Detective Darcy Halliday and Detective Jack Lavelle are on the case of the dead man. and on the window someone has wrote Wake Up. Liv is scared and she does not know who is her friend and who her enemy. I dont want to say no more but I so recommend this book and it gets in your head and once you start it you won't want to stop
WOW.!!!! I am still reeling my mind on this book even after I have finished this book! It was really good--so good that I stayed up all night to finish this book!
Liv Reese wakes up inside a cab, with no memory of how she got into the cab or why she was in the cab in the first place. Her skin is scribbled with a black ink pen, saying STAY AWAKE. And in her purse, she was carrying a bloodstained knife. When she reaches to her apartment, she finds that another couple is already living in the apartment. Liv has no recollection of what really happened. Meanwhile, the police are investigating on the murder of a man who was stabbed in his apartment and this may all tie to Liv Reese...
If you have Before I go Sleep and Memento, then this book will be one for you. This is the third book I have read of Megan Goldin and I must say, this book has to be her best book aftet Night Swim and The Escape Room. From the start of the chapter till the end, the author has done a good job of drawing the reader into the story and making the reader feel like they are at the edge of the seat! Liv is suffering from a very rare disorder due to the trauma she had faced two years ago which makes her an unreliable narrator, wondering as a reader whether Liv actually murdered someone or not. You also get to see Liv's life two years ago, before whatever the trauma she was in and the story divides between past and present, so you could actually get a glimpse of what really happened. The ending...wow it was so unexpected and also the revealation of the actual killer was also a complete surprise and unexpected...WOW! I just couldn't believe THAT ENDING!
So if you like a gripping psychological thriller that will throw you at the edge of the seat, which is quiet unputdownable with lots of unexpected twists and turns...then read this book--worth whopping five stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Canelo for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
Oh my! Megan Goldin she always delivers fast paced stories that glue me to the pages!! One would call this addictive, wouldn't you?!
So we meet Liv an insomniac who has no recollection of the past two years. We have a murder-victim whos identity is a mystery and we have a very strongheaded and skillfull dedective who makes her point among her male colleagues.
Just jump in and enjoy!!!
Thanks #Netgalley #Canelo for this ARC
Wow!!! This will definitely be one of the best books I read this year. The plot is quite similar to the film Momento and its just as captivating and complex. I absolutely loved it. Its 1.30am and I have work soon but I just couldn't put it down until I knew everything. This book is so much more than just a thriller or a police story. It is a domestic noir at the highest order hut there's also a lot really touching moments. Hearing the struggles of a person who does have that condition was really heart wrenching and that adds so much it the story, it makes it much human and also gives our main character a bit of vulnerability. I felt it was really respectfully written and it never felt forced or like the plot was dragging alone. There are a few lose ends by the finale but they're not in connection to any of the main points of th book. A must read
Very compelling. I couldn't stop reading and ended up finishing this in one sitting.
Liv doesn't remember the last two years. Every time she wakes up, she thinks it's still that day two years ago and every time she falls asleep she forgets everything that happened since she had woken up. There is a bloody knife in her pocket and all she knows is that at some point she has written on her hands STAY AWAKE. Through two timelines we find out what happened two years ago and what happened last night.
The dialogue and the writing seemed a bit clumsy at times, but as the plot thickened I forgot all about that. But what I'm not able to forget (or forgive), is that the ending was not explained well enough and judging on the questions posted on Goodreads, other people were just as confused. (I'll explain more at the end of the review so I won't spoil anything.) Because of this I can't rate this book more than 3 stars. If the ending was explained better this book would've been easily 4 stars. But now it feels almost like there was no point to it.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Spoilers:
Especially I think it would've been important to explain the motivation behind the whole situation two years ago (the art show, the things in the apartment, the messages). I just don't see why this person would've done those things. And was it even them who did those things? I have so many questions.
Oh wow this was such a damn good read I just couldn’t figure out what was going to happen and it kept me guessing right until the end.
The story is told by two characters Liv and Detective Darcy Halliday with different timelines running throughout and although it’s a very complex plot line it never becomes overly complicated just extremely intense as the main character Liv tries to deal with what is happening around her when every time she falls asleep her memory resets.
This was a read that I found myself holding breath so many times never knowing what was coming next and I really felt for Liv a character I really loved she was so well written and the author did a brilliant job of describing the fear and confusion that Liv was feeling while battling with the memory loss and trying to find out what is happening to her.
For me the book was unique, clever and addictive I could go on and on about how brilliant it was it had my head spinning I Ioved the twists, I loved the characters it had everything that a five star read should have and more, a book not to be missed, many thanks to Megan Goldin for a superb piece of writing.
My thanks also to NetGalley and Canelo for giving me the chance to read read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Firstly I would like to thank netgalley and canelo and the author Megan Goldin for a copy of her book to read.
I've read the authors first book Escape Room which was a brilliant read.waiting on her second book Night Swim to go on offer, looking forward to reading that book. This is her third book was disappointed in as I wasnt keen on the storyline found it abit slow, wasnt as good as her first book. This book is about Liv she cant remember things goes to her home to find other tenants living there,a murder did she kill this person? Or was it a set-up.still looking forward to reading more books from this author maybe this book wasnt for me.
This book will be reviewed on goodreads and Amazon UK.
Imagine what it must be like to fall asleep and when you wake you are stripped of your memories. This is Liv Reeses’s reality. She wakes in the back of a taxi, no clue of why she is there and her confusion increases when she’s dropped at her apartment and a couple of strangers answer the bell. Why has she got graffiti messages on her skin urging her to “stay awake“ and “don’t sleep“? Why is she chilled to the bone about reports of a murder on television? She remembers absolutely nothing of the last two years; she recalls dating Marco, that she is a successful magazine writer and that her best friend is Amy. The rest is a big fat blank.
Detectives Darcy Halliday and Jack Lavelle investigate the murder in the present day as Liv desperately tries to piece together what may have happened to her.
This is so good! It has everything I enjoy most in a thriller, a well thought out plot, a protagonist you can root for, two well crafted and also very likeable detectives, a very intriguing mystery, a hint or three of the creepy, tension and suspense you can actually sense and of course, the obligatory twists!
Liv’s confusion is written so well you feel it too, her complete lack of centre with her poor brain trying to catch up as she reels from one revelation to another. The dread, panic and utter bewilderment are palpable as her missing two years remain elusive. I have absolutely no idea if the diagnosis given to explain her memory loss is real but it actually doesn’t matter to me one little bit because the author get you to buy into the concept and immerses you in Liv’s world.
The author melds and blends the past with the present so seamlessly that you get pieces of the jigsaw of Liv’s life a bit at a time as it builds to a very good conclusion. I miss all the clues for the perpetrator because the author has me totally focused on Liv!! I definitely need to stay awake!!
If you are after an intelligent and well crafted mystery thriller that’s a bit different from the norm then look no further! Highly recommended.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Canelo for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
So you wake up with no memory of how you got somewhere, strange scribbles on your hand and arms and your life is seemingly not your own anymore!
The plot for this book was the so intriguing and the mystery of it all kept me on my toes all the way through. Every time I thought I’d figured out something I’d end up being off. This was a wild ride from start to finish and I loved it. My only gripe (without giving spoilers) would be that the initial incident wasn’t tied up for me at the end of the book. I felt like I didn’t full get the motive or even the reason for why they chose to do things the way they did. A lot of the initial incidence didn’t add up and I wish I had answers! Despite that it was brilliant!
The pace was great! It was fast paced but it still took the time to set things up well. The ending felt a bit abrupt and I wanted more but I would’ve wanted more anyway because this was one of those books that I couldn’t put down but I also didn’t want this to end!
There are also some really well written characters that I felt I could connect to. You really felt for Liv and what she was going through!
Overall a great read and I’d highly recommend!
Stay Awake is a fanstatic book that I couldn't put down.
It had lots of twists that were impossible to figure out, and the ending was completely unexpected yet fulfilling.
I can see this being made into a TV show and I hope this materialises as this novel is very visual.
A solid read!!
What would you do if every time you went to sleep you woke up thinking it was two years ago? You’ve forgotten it all. That is Liv’s life now. She goes to sleep and wakes up not remembering anything. Throw in a dead body and her picture on the news, she has no idea who to turn to. He only thing she has is the messages that she writes on her hands and arms.
This book was very interesting. You can’t put it down because you want to know what happened and why she is this way.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this one.
4.5 stars
This book is the definition of a book that you won't want to put down. And like the name of the book suggests, I've got a feeling that it is one that you will want to stay awake to keep reading.
From the first few pages this instantly reminded me of one of my favourite TV shows, The Night Of but instead of just one night being missing from her memory, over two years have passed between Liv's last memory and where she finds herself today.
It may also remind some of the movie Memento but with a dash of 50 First Dates.
I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of amnesia storylines but this puts a brilliant spin on it.
I really liked the dual timelines as we see Liv before and after the event that this book focuses on.
I was also a huge fan of Detective Halliday and the fact that we had chapters from her perspective as well.
I maybe didn't bond as much as I could have with Liv, as even though we are very aware of her predicament, it is frustrating to see her act in ways that I personally wouldn't have.
We do feel ourselves in her shoes, unsure who to trust but I definitely would have hung around in the doctors office, for example, instead of rushing off.
But, I simply could not put this down.
This may be the first book that I've read by Megan Goldin but it certainly won't be the last.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Want to read a thriller that you want to stay up late for? This is it!
Liv wakes up in a cab not knowing where she is or where she’s going. When she reaches her old apartment somebody else lives there. The mystery only intensifies when it becomes clearer and clearer that her last memory was from two years ago. Somebody is out to get her, but what really happened? And why was she probably at a crime scene where somebody was killed?
Don’t you love the set-up? No time is wasted, we are just thrown right into the action and have to figure out what’s happening in real time. The book alternates between now and two years ago, and we slowly realize that something terrible happened two years ago. We also have the POV of detective Halliday and I absolutely loved her! She was intelligent, open-minded and tough. Without her POV the book would have lacked some of the suspense. Liv herself also came off as likable and like a survivor. You can feel her confusion and mistrust, and if it was a movie you would probably close your eyes at several points, because you don’t want to see it all go wrong.
The ending was very satisfying. The loose ends were tied up properly, so you didn’t have any unanswered questions or felt that it didn’t make sense. I didn’t completely buy the type of amnesia she had, but it fitted well with the storyline, so I forgave the author for choosing something that doesn’t exist, or if it does is so rare that I’ve never heard about it.
Thanks to netgally and canelo crime for this Arc
