I doubt very much I'd have downloaded this for review if I had known it was manga, but it wasn't too bad. A female cop whose actions lead to dispute with her superiors takes the time of suspension she gets given to work on finding out more about her absent, similarly maverick-cop, father. Through this we find this is some kind of future city, with future dates, and something about the Citadel, which remains too vague at this early stage. And the end is a right mess, leaving me to merely hazard a guess where we're at after this Book One. I can see some people keen to read the other five (or more) but I won't be among them, even if the back cover tells us so much more than these few pages do.

I LOVED THIS Graphic novel, what more could I love nothing,. Beautiful art, Black heroine and the storyline sucked me in!

Asa is a action oriented police officer. When she finds her father's old service weapon, it opens up an old mystery surrounding his death. Asa now wants to enter the Citadel, but it's a dangerous place.

This read so fast that it was over before I knew it. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. The art is pretty good too.

An interesting first volume which sets up the series very good. The artwork was ok and i am waiting for the second volume after the cliffhanger ending.

Very engaging first volume! I love the idea of the secret criminal underworld that the main character finds herself led to and I would absolutely continue reading to find out more about how it existed and how it involves her father!

The cliffhanger at the end made the comic even better. I admire the versatility of both the artist and storyteller. Creating fight seats, talking in a vehicle and thrilling red conspiracy made the book worthwhile. I do hope to read the next comic.

This is an interesting first volume which introduces the reader to the characters. It was ok for a first volume but it didn’t really grab me. The artwork was ok but I won’t be reading the second volume.

This is the first volume in a police mystery series but I actually stopped midway through to check that I hadn’t accidentally requested a later volume because it was so confusing. Overall it was hard to follow, there wasn’t any emotional arc to connect with the main character, the plot was convoluted at best and I struggled to see what was visually going on. The cover is a really cool art style but without the color it lacks a depth in its line weight and panel composition. It was not enjoyable read. Definitely not the series for me.

Sweet Konkrete by Senchiro is a manga-inspired graphic novel about a female police officer in a sci-fi world. The story revolves around Asa, who is investigating her father's death. According to the description, in order to "uncover the truth about her father’s mysterious death, she will have to enter the Citadel: a mysterious ghetto where crime reigns supreme, and the laws of nature don’t apply!"

Overall, Sweet Konkrete is a sci-fi graphic novel that will appeal to fans of Akira or Ghost in the Shell. One highlight of this book is the main character. It's always refreshing to see a book focused on female police officers. I did take off 3 stars, because I just wasn't a fan of the artwork. Not only was I not a fan of the art style, I was also disappointed that the book was in black and white. From the cover, I thought that it would be in color. I loved every bit of this comic. I never realized how much I miss reading manga, until I read this. The first chapter of Sweet Konkrete gives us the reckless, impulsive, brash Asa, solving a case (almost) only to be sidelined by the senior male officer for not following orders. Suddenly having so much of free time in her hands Asa dives into the closed case of her Dad's death, which leads her to the mystery of the hundred-year-old Citadel.

I am so excited to continue on this journey with Asa. I loved the art style. There was 'enough' action, and my only complaint is that his books was too short.

A very quick introduction to a city beside a city and a wild girl who won’t let her father’s memory go missing. I’m not quite sold.

Asa seems determined to get fired. When she messes up her ability to follow orders on her last mission, she is suspended from active cop duty and returns home to stew… but this gives her time to begin questioning the disappearance of her father, who everyone seems to believe she resembles (behaviour-wise). When his service weapon shows up at her mom’s house and a strange picture brings back memories, Asa begins to investigate his disappearance more actively, only to learn there is much more to the story. Her father was on a mission in the ‘Citadel’ and he never seemed to have come back. To find her answers, it is time for Asa to enter this strange city too (🤦 or not).

I really liked the old school vibe of this manga, feels like reading Black Lagoon or watching Cowboy Bepop again.
The first chapter is mainly crime/mystery, where the main character tries to figure out what happened to her dad, but eventually there is a supernatural element that I guess will evolve more later.
All in all it was really fun to read and I'm looking forward to reading more.

I will absolutely recommend this to people who's looking for a bit more grown up manga.

I enjoyed this first volume in this series the main female character I really liked as she was brash and set in her ways but relatable, strong and empowering, absolutely loved her as a character and the way she interacted with all the rest of the characters in this manga. The story itself fell a little flat for me as I have seen it done many times in the books so it wasn't something new and innovative but I did enjoy the way it was dealt with which was a great spin on the story which I found very good. This may be one series I will continue in the future as it seems interesting and I would like to see where the story will go in the future. I really like this artist and I would love to read more in the future.

This book was rather interesting, and while I am used to Manga with more action, I enjoyed the story tremendously, with a shroud of mystery surrounding the main character's father. The story seems like it is setting a backstory up for a story with growing intensity. Very likely to order this for our branch and our growing graphic novel/manga collection.

The first volume of Sweet Konkrete opens up with Asa and how her actions end up botching a police operation, which in turn leads to her suspension from the force. As the story follows Asa, the world-building is slowly revealed, as well as the mystery of Asa's father. In her work as an officer, the shadow of her father appears to loom over her. But there is more to Asa's father than it seems. She receives his service weapon, which sparks her journey of finding out the truth.

I really like the art style of this manga! It reminds me a lot of the late 90s or early 2000s manga and anime styles of the time. People who like FullMetal Alchemist, Ghost in the Shell, or Cowboy Bebop art styles would likely enjoy this art style as well. The character designs are also really fun! The environmental designs also breathe a lot of life into the story, almost telling a small story of its own in the background. (Pun not intended!) The bit of action that you see in the first volume shows a lot of promise for potential action scenes in future volumes! This first volume is clearly setting up key plot points that will be explored in later volumes, so there is a lot of information being tossed at you right out of the gate. Many questions are asked, but very few are answered. Not having answers can be a bit frustrating, but again, this is only the first volume. The story has plenty of potential and an interesting world. The mystery of the hundred-year-old Citadel is fascinating. I had assumed from the name, that it was simply a building, but the story shows that there is more to the Citadel than meets the eye. The only thing that saddened me is that the first volume is terribly short! It ends on a cliffhanger, right as the story was amping up! I desperately want to know more! The story blurb for this volume mentions "a cunning mercenary and a super sweet kid", but neither of them was introduced in this first volume. Hopefully, they will be shown in the second volume, which I eagerly look forward to!
