This was such an addictive and captivating domestic thriller, that held my attention from page one.. Twisty, compelling and fast-paced, this was a quick and easy read.

Oooooo what a fast paced and fantastic book! The tension in this thriller simmers just below the surface, ready to boil over with each carefully placed revelation and unexpected turn.

A really great book kept me on the edge of my seat and kept me reading up late. Liked the characters and the way we got to know them quickly through some background but mainly how they acted through the story.

After Tara's estranged sister dies in a house fire, Tara is let to care for her niece, Hannah. Evidence suggests that the fire was deliberately set. Hannah comes to live with Tara and Tara's 12 year old daughter, Cassie. Tara is worried that the past is catching up with her. She fears someone might be coming after her and/or Hannah. As the book progresses, we learn that everyone is keeping secrets.

This book is told over two timelines - we learn why Tara and her sister became estranged and how the past relates to what is going on in the present. The author did a great job incorporating suspense and tons of twists and turns. The final twists shocked me! This was a quick read that I could not put down! I enjoyed the character development and family drama. This is a must read for any thriller fan, especially those who love stories with family secrets.

I think sometimes we have to remember that we are reading fiction, and while I don't think a lot of what happened would take place in reality, it was interesting to see this on the page.

I didn't see the twist coming and for that I really enjoyed it. There was enough suspense and things I was curious about that pushed me to want to keep reading.

My sister has died in a house fire and the niece that I barely know is coming to live with me. What a fabulous and shocking suprise and the twists have only just begun. Addictive and intriguing!

A really good read. I was genuinely taken back at times and the ending is very clever. This isn't my first read from the author and I have enjoyed everything I've read so far. She writes a good thriller that keeps you guessing and is in no way predictable.

Another heart pounding thriller from Georgina Cross. Such a good read. It took me by surprise in a lot of places and wasn't expecting the twist at the end. I've enjoyed everyone of the author's books so far and this one did not disappoint!

In true Georgina Cross fashion, my jaw DROPPED when I got to that plot twist!! Wow. What a ride. I loved this book, loved the emotions it brought out and the suspense was incredible. 5 stars!

The characters were great, the story was excellent and the style of writing was perfect. I have read plenty of books by this author and not one of them have disappointed me. So we find out why the family is estranged. It all makes sense. The tension in this book was killing me. Then came the sudden reveal. OMG! Where did that come from? I definately will be reading more of this authors books.

Gripping me from the beginning I flew through the pages. When Tara's estranged sister is killed in a fire and she inherits custody of her 16 year old niece, Hannah's, her entire world is rocked.

As if the adjustment wasn't enough to contend with, she starts to receive threatening letters. Cards. Unknown numbers calling her phone. Tara knows she'll do whatever she can to keep her neice and 12 year old daughter Cassie safe. But how much does she really know about Hannah?

A intense edge of your seat read.

Oh this was a good one! I really felt for "the niece" for most of this book, and it was enjoyable to see how her character changed throughout, great read and a very different ending than I expected!

This psych thriller left me confused. After a strong prologue, the first half of the book recounts the events after the prologue. Then about halfway through the book, there’s a flashback to 13 years prior. And a few chapters after that, the action moves back to the present. That’s not the confusing part; in fact, it’s a fresh take on the usual storytelling methods. The confusion comes in the twist itself because I didn’t feel like there were enough hints to make it plausible. I suppose if I’d thought about it harder, I might have understood it, but I don’t read psych thrillers to think. And the resolution seemed abrupt. A page turner with enjoyable family drama. The author is becoming one of my favorites as I enjoyed her writing. Definitely recommend and would love to read more.

Georgina Cross's The Niece is a good attempt at a twisted psychological thriller. The story centers on the Jenkins family which comprises of Beth, Tara and Beth's daughter Hannah. After the tragic death of her mother in a fire, Hannah is sent to live with her aunt Tara. However, Tara hadn't been in touch with her sister Beth for many years due to a traumatic event in which they were both involved. Now, because of the tragic death of her sister, she hopes to bridge the gap which had developed between her and her niece while making a new family of their own with herself, her niece and her daughter Cassie.

Hannah has always been taught by her mother not to trust her aunt and this makes it difficult for her to connect with her new family. She even suspects if her aunt has anything to do with the fire; and Tara suspects Hannah has brought trouble from back home.

After a slow start introducing and establishing all these characters, the story takes off after the first half of the book. The second half goes off into a twisted and complicated tale of betrayal and double-crossing which contains certain twists you will never guess.

The story was interesting and did offer an enjoyable reading experience. Georgina Cross has a good writing style with a clipped narrative style and crisp pacing. However, I had a few problems with the story too. All the characters were gray, which is alright; but I just didn't like any of them enough for me to root for them. I didn't much care about any of them almost till the end. There is also the very improbable twist at the end which took me out of the story for a bit.

Still, it is a decent attempt by the author and an entertaining one at that. If you are not much into too much logic and like twisted thrillers, you can definitely try this book.

Great thriller ! I did not see the twist coming near the end. Will definitely read more by this author.
