I loved this book - the themes of family secrets, inappropriate relationships, and murder really had me hooked. I had my own theories about the twist but was wrong! This one got me and I really enjoyed the high anxiety ending! The fast pace of the writing had me consistently turning the pages and frequently picking it up, even just to read a few pages throughout the day.

I really enjoyed The Girl in Your House; pick it up, you won't be disappointed. Buckle up bc it's a ride!

Everytime I would say just one more page , I would end up reading more pages . And the family secrets seem to keep coming with each turn of the page, it got to the point that I didn't know who to trust and even if I wanted to trust anyone of them. over all the story was good, as was the plot, the drama, author's writing style.

Loved it!. What a brilliant fast read! I was flying through the pages; then realized that it was wrapping up, I was so engrossed in the plot and the twists that it didn’t see it coming! This is a can’t put it down, one day read.

I have so enjoyed Cross' work in the past but this wasn't up to par. It fell short. Everything was choppy, hinting at things, but instead of playing my interest it all just confused me, making me fill like I had missed something crucial. I did not like the main character; she was paranoid and over dramatic. I so wanted to love this but I didn't. I'll still look forward to more from Cross.

Please believe me when I say that I wanted to love this as much as I loved Nanny Needed, but this just wasn’t it. I’ll admit I had high expectations.
For praise, it was easy enough to read and the concept was interesting. I was invested and I kept holding out hope that things would click into place. Cross knows how to keep the reader intrigued. Initially, I was excited to see what twists would be pulled out of the bag.
I feel bad for criticising but I have to be honest - it missed the mark in multiple ways. I was here waiting for the fast pace and high stakes but that was not delivered. In fact, there were no real stakes until atleast chapter thirteen. Thirteen chapters too late for me! Not to mention the ‘cliff hangers’ at the end of each chapter. If done right, I can see how this could work but here it just seems overly dramatic and makes the character sound paranoid. The paranoia would be okay if we had a sense of background but the character just constantly insinuates about the past with no explanation or detail. Again, overly dramatic. The plot twist was a big no-no from me; I wasn’t shocked and it just felt cheap. Overall, this experience was exhausting.
I’ll read more from Cross, but sadly, I’d struggle to recommend this.

The Girl in Your House by Georgina Cross features Tara, who is hiding a secret. When her sister dies, her niece comes to live with her and her daughter. Tara's past is coming to her present. You kind of get the idea that Hannah is not really Hannah by the book's title. The plot was predictable because I figured out who was at the heart of the threats to Tara and who was involved. But the book was still good and kept me reading until the end. The story of Tara's background was surprising and interesting. I was hoping that Tara and Detective Gillespie would get together (maybe for another book!).

Overall, the story was very good, and Tara's secret was surprising and sad. There was so much tragedy in this one family. The plot was good even though I figured it out. I enjoyed the book and the author's writing style. I will check out more books by this author.

I would recommend The Girl in Your House by Georgina Cross. I give this a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

I loved this book - one of those books that just sucked me in and I found it really hard to put down.
Interestingly though I've just looked at the 'blurb' for this book on Goodreads and note that it's written from the perspective of a girl who has been in a fire. In the book itself, however, the perspective given is that of the aunt - who takes in Hannah, her sister Beth's daughter - following the fire in which Beth dies. This is quite an important distinction
In the book description we read 'Nothing feels real right now. My beloved mother was my whole world—she taught me everything and she said she would always be there for me. My last memory is of her screaming at me to get out. Then the flames took her, and she was gone.
Now I have to live with my aunt and I hope she’s changed after all these years. But when I secretly watch her speaking to her friends, she makes it sound like I’m a stranger in her home.
She leaves her bedroom door open and I hear her on the phone to the police late at night. I start to wonder if she had something to do with the terrible fire that ripped my life apart. And my blood turns to ice when the detective asks, what are you hiding?'
But in reality, in the book itself it's not just the aunt who has something to hide - but also 'Hannah'. Not a fan of spoilers so I'm not going to say more in that regard other than the fact that I thought the author did a great job of revealing the background story and why Beth died in the house fire. There was a twist towards the end which sheds light on some of these secrets and it was a twist that I really didn't expect but which I thought elevated this book from a 4 to 5 stars and made it just slightly different to what I'd expected.

Dancing Donkey's At The Disco! 😳😯🤯😳

This was one fast-paced speed-reading book for me. From beginning to end it was full of tension, suspicion, drama and uncertainty. I was fully emerged into it and I couldn't get enough. I loved how Cross dished out ever so slowly the different secrets and lies that were so intense and crazy, I lapped it up like a willing victim with shock and awe. All I kept thinking as I was reading was, in Spear's famous lyrics, "Gimme More!"

Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: Tara has been estranged from her sister, Beth and niece, Hannah for over a decade. But one day out of the blue Tara receives a phone call that will change her life ten fold. Beth has died in a house fire of their old family home, believed to be a target of arson. Hannah managed to make it out alive but will now be coming to live with Tara and daughter, Cassie. But danger is lurking close to home and with Hannah now under Tara's protection, past secrets and lies are about to come to light. Because the past never does stay buried.

The ending was delivered with such shock, such insanity I could hardly believe it. A damn jaw-dropper that left me so mind-boggled I had to re-read the part a few times. I mean, for heavens sakes, Cross totally T-boned me with it! Cross' writing style and process of a thriller novel never lets you down and keeps you totally off kilter. The craziness constantly amps up as it goes along and leaves you jittery, just like Tara. Your nerves will be on the edge constantly so be prepared!

The Girl in Your House proves Georgina Cross to be a master at weaving tension and intrigue along with intense empathy for her characters. I was so enthralled at the first page, that I tried to parse out my reading like one would a delicious and decadent box of cookies or chocolates. But come the last third of the book, I found myself completely unable to stop gorging on the pages. I was so emotionally involved with the mother and her daughter that I simply couldn't put it down. The Girl in Your House was satisfying in every way.

Intense, suspenseful, thrills from the beginning.

The Girl in Your House by Georgina Cross is a really good psychological thriller. Tara and her 12 year old daughter Cassie live in North Carolina and are content with their life. Tara gets word that her sister Beth has died in a house fire in the farmhouse they grew up in, in Louisville, KY and Tara has been named as guardian of her 16 year old niece Hannah. Tara and Beth had a falling out about 13 years ago and have not spoken since. Tara is happy to take her niece in but is curious as to who started the fire that killed Beth. Also, Tara is hiding some dark secrets about why her and Beth became estranged and they are definitely back to haunt her. Someone is also sending threatening messages to Tara and Hannah.
I enjoyed the structure of this story. It starts in the present and about halfway through it lets you in on what happened to Tara and Beth in the past. I thought I had it figured out but I was way off! I love when I am wrong! I can't wait for a new book from this author. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this book. I’ve not read this author before, so going into this was all new. All I know is I picked up a book labelled as a thriller and was absolutely sucked into it.
There’s an awful lot of books in this genre vying for your attention, and this should be one that you pick up.
Such an intriguing storyline, really well thought out characters, and so well written you get carried away with it. Time flies with this book in your hand!
I actually found that the promised “twist” in this book, was just that. A twist I didn’t see coming. For that, I’m extremely thankful as it makes it all the more enjoyable.
Definitely recommend this book.

I consider myself a pretty seasoned thriller reader, and can pretty much guess what’s going to happen, almost every time! But the TWIST in this book, came from wayyy out in left field, I definitely did NOT see that coming! That doesn’t happen often, so when it does, I am absolutely ecstatic!
The characters and story are both vividly written, you feel the anger, grief, fear and emotions right along with them, right until the very end!
Filled with plenty of drama and suspense, this is a quick read, and I know I’ll be thinking about that ending for days to come!

I read the book but found the past odd. Not much needed to be sad, since I learn nothing about it. I had the book figured out too soon. It seemed the book perhaps had a book 1 I missed.

I LOVED the first book I read written by Georgina Cross, Nanny Needed, and she continues to deliver with this latest offering.

🪝 Georgina Cross has mastered the art of suspense. She manages to hook the reader in from the first page rendering you unable to put the book down!

🎀 Every thread is tied up nicely with no loose ends, meaning that when you get to the end you have that lovely satisfied feeling.

🎥 This would make a great film!

The blurb actually gives a big clue in this one and I kind of wished it wasn’t there as it took away some of the scope for my own theories.

While I admire the author's previous works, I regret to say that this book just wasn't for me. I found the story implausible, the original crime by Tara and Beth without logic and while I would have been excited by the Jodi angle, by the time, I reached the climax, I had lost interest in the entire plot. I was counting on 'Hannah' being an imposter right from the beginning, but the whole execution of things didn't thrill me the way it should have and so I have nothing to comment on that character. The climax that should have been exhilarating ended on a 'poof.' Honestly, I feel Patrick is justified in his actions because it was a direct result of Tara and Beth's crime, so Tara acting very self-righteous at the end was hypocritical; so was justifying Beth's actions - burning a man alive is more the work of a cold-blooded psycopath than someone who was acting out on being disappointed by the men in her life.

I’m totally hooked…the characters here are vividly written, especially the emotion, the grief, the revenge…The big twisted at the end was absolutely surprised me…

I absolutely loved this! I am still lifting my jaw from the floor , that ending was AMAZING. I literally read this book in two days. Definitely a good thriller/suspense book. 5 stars
