There are three books in this series The first book The DOCTOR a hard hitting five star read and now the story continues with The Wife.
Cynthia is married to the doctor and has given birth to two beautiful twin girls but how can a beautiful, intelligent woman live with such a abhorrent monster and really not know what was happening in her own home. This is her story of even before he met her he started to manipulate every aspect of her life. How little by little he chips away at her self esteem and moulds her into the woman she is today. Another hard hitting and powerful read and not to everyone's taste. I strongly advice the reader to read The first book The DOCTOR before embarking on this another dark, intense and emotional rollercoaster of a read.

I actually did like the book. NOT love it, but that's the point. It has an ugly message and warning against trusting anyone with authority... you were programmed to. I see as the writer did try to tell, QUESTION everyone who has contact with your child. BE VERY CAREfUL who you trust.

I do love the message the book finally makes clear to everyone. No time to look away from ugly things.
This is a 3 books series. You want to see the justice if you will, and The doctor's wife, even as she did what she had to pay dearly, as well as hundreds of young boys. Lastly is Anthony and his story. It was all so very dreadful for so many, it tightens your heart for the survivors.
One series of books I shall not forget.

After reading The Doctor, this is the second book in the series. The Wife tells the same story but from "The Wife" Cynthia's point of view. A completely different way of looking at events and quite heartbreaking. A gripping read from the start showing what Cynthia had to go through. Highly recommended.

I struggled with the 1st book since it was soooo dark and I was wary that this one would be just as disturbing.... which I guess it was but in a different way! I really enjoyed this one and loved how it gave you a completely new outlook on the characters that you thought you already knew from book 1. It's certainly got the tension and ramps up the atmosphere like any good thriller and it was actually quite heart reaching to read what the character had gone though an dto see her experiences through her eyes. It's not often that thrillers manage to make me actually emotional but this one definitely did. If you read the 1st book then this is a must read and if you haven't, go n read the 1st one and then come back. You won't regret it

The Wife is part of a trilogy so it would make sense to read The Doctor before you read this one. The Father is the final book.

In The Wife, we follow Cynthia Galbraith, wife of Dr David Galbraith. Cynthia is in prison and we follow her story there. I’m not going to say much as it would give too much away and it is important to start from book 1.

Cynthia is advised to write a journal by her therapist in prison and we learn about her life before meeting David and her time with David.

This book was as difficult to read as the first one but in a different way. I found myself quite emotional with this story, one minute I was angry, then I would feel so sad. I had so much sympathy for Cynthia and her situation & the sad thing is that this does happen to people in real life, this is not just a fictional story, there is truth to it as well.

I am looking forward to reading the final part, The Father.

Having read 'the doctor' I was excited to read the 2nd installment of the author trio of books. The story is written by 'Cynthia' and tells of the abuse both physical and mental she suffered at the hands of her husband! She is in prison for the murder of her husband and she writes about what happened to help with her mental health. New evidence is found but does she get released? You will have to read this book to find out.

This is the 2nd book in the Dr David Galbraith series. I highly recommend reading these in order to get the full picture.
I really like how John Nicholl has written these books. This one started out kind of scatterbrained but Cynthia was very much like that and the book really shows the gaslighting and abuse she death with. I don't want to give any spoilers but this is a great psychological thriller.

After enjoying The Doctor I had high hopes with this read. I did enjoy it, although it didn’t quite have the wow factor for me. I liked Cynthia, and this book tells her side of the story from her perspective. I hated Dr Galbraith in the previous book and reading this just increased loathing and dislike for one of the most vilest of characters I’ve ever read about. Well done John Nicholl for creating a character I loathed right from the start. Cynthia is now in prison for murder and she is encouraged to write of her life when introduced to Dr Galbraith. I think the author’s writing is good, and as a character Cynthia’s thoughts, feelings and emotions jump out of the pages and I couldn’t help but feel empathy for her. She finds herself in a very controlling, manipulative and coercive relationship, belittled daily and has to live up to high, exacting and impossible standards set by her husband and over time becomes worn down. But when it really matters she fights for what she thinks is right. The book moved from past events to present day so effortlesssly and the menace in the authors writing through his character Dr Galbraith stood out really well. I liked the ending and the lovely snippets of how a couple of the other characters were faring after the events in the previous book and I will definitely be looking to read the next book in the series when I can.

Love, love, love! Read the first installment and now the second, on with the 3rd as i type! I was torn between pure hatred for Cynthia and at the same time felt sorry for her, love this series and can’t wait to get stuck into the 3rd one “Th Father” I’ve read all his books including others not in this series and they are dark but brilliant

The Wife is the second instalment of the Dr. David Galbraith trio of books, and I highly recommend that you read them in order - this story directly follows on from book one (and The Doctor is a brilliant read, so you really don’t want to miss it!).

This book is really hard hitting as we get a vivid account of how David gradually breaks Cynthia – in more ways than one. There are passages of physical and sexual abuse, which I believe are written well, are not gratuitous or simply there to shock, they really do help us to understand (and accept?) Cynthia’s behaviour and actions relating to events of book one.

The second in this trilogy and follows on from The Doctor where we first met Dr David Galbraith. This is his wife’s story, from her point of view, in the form of a journal she writes whilst serving a life sentence for the murder of her husband. I strongly recommend you read the first book before starting this one. Although this is fiction the author was previously both a police officer and social worker and this is based on fact.

Briefly, Cynthia Galbraith writes her journal on the recommendation of her psychiatrist. It is a story of psychological manipulation of its grandest scale as she lives her life according to the rules set by Galbraith. Alongside this her treatment in prison is both violent and disturbing.

Well written and even though we already know a lot of the story from the previous book it is a fascinating read into the mindset of Cynthia. Really well written and a book that the further I got into the more it grabbed me. There are some really harrowing scenes in the book, and it does come with a warning, but it’s really disturbing to think people like this evil man live amongst us. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay WOW

This is DARK.

I enjoyed the premise but my god, I spent the ENTIRE book with my heart in my throat and clenching my jaw till it began to hurt.

It was just so scary that I can't even imagine living through that.

My heart goes out to everyone who was affected with something like this. You are truly strong.

I just wish the trigger warnings had been explicitly mentioned a bit before but otherwise, this was great.

This is book 2 , read book one first!

Brilliantly written really had me hooked. Scarily possible that this could happen. ..

Great author

The scariest thing about this book is it was based on a true story. Cynthia Galbraith was told Buy her prison counselor to write down everything that happened to get a better perspective of events. After the love of her life was murdered by a hit-and-run driver while jogging his professor came to give his condolences. He said anything she may need or he can do for her just to let him know and he meant that, because on New Year’s eve he called to see how she was doing into invite her out to lunch. This would be the beginning of her brainwashing it would take years but she would put an in to her and her daughters nightmare and that’s how she found herself in prison. I don’t want to say too much although I have given a brief outline of the book, but I have left a lot out OMG what a horror story. The doctor was a weird person and she wasn’t his only victim and all his victims were under the guise of him helping them. It’s only 10% of this book is true then OMG! I really enjoyed this book and if you love thrillers especially domestic thrillers you’ll love this book. Be warned though there is gaslighting and physical and sexual abuse in this book so if you are triggered by these things then I don’t know what kind of thrillers you can read, but don’t read this one. It was so good! I received this book from netGally and the author and I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own.

Part 2 of the Dr David Galbraith series and recommend you read the first book for this one to make sense.
Galbraith’s wife, Cynthia is in prison following her brave fight with Galbraith, ending his reign of terror and his life. She has been recommended to write down her story to help her come to terms with that happened. No one believed the terror she endured.
A surprising twist of luck occurs at the end, which leads to a pleasing result for Cynthia.
An interesting read and links so well with Part 1. It is good to see some positivity for Cynthia after hearing what she endured.
Another epic story by John Nicholl.
