What a fun way to introduce children to the amazing stories of Sherlock Holmes! Alex Woolf has taken the original story by Arthur Conan Doyle, and broken it up into chapters, with illustrations. The storyline is intact, but the language has been simplified somewhat, to make it easy for 8-10 year olds to understand. I handed this book to my 10-year-old, and he enjoyed the story. I did, too, even though I had read it before! I love the twist at the end. Any child who enjoys short mysteries should love this book.

I received a review copy of this book from NetGalley, and these are my honest thoughts about it.

I never knew Sherlock had a sextortion case, how interesting! I'm so used to him solving murders that a case where he has to recover a compromising photograph of the King of Bohemia with an actress he had an affair with that threatens to ruin his marriage of state prospects felt strange.

It's not Sherlock's best case in terms of intrigue, suspense, and plot. But it's still entertaining because you want to see how he'll manage to retrieve the photo. Will he steal it? Will he negotiate with the actress? Will he pay a ransom? Will he reverse-blackmail her? I don't know! And I wanted to know. The solution wasn't as jaw-dropping as in other cases, and I was a bit disappointed, though. In the end, this earns 3.5 stars for the novelty.

A fantastic abridged version of the classic Sherlock Holmes short story A Scandal in Bohemia, capturing the narrative and spirit of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's work brilliantly. A Scandal in Bohemia is unique among the short stories in that Holmes is outwitted by an interesting "adversary" -- and a woman at that! Holmes strives to recover a photograph of a king with his former opera singer lover Irene Adler, because Adler has been blackmailing the king before his upcoming wedding to a princess of another royal family. Although Holmes concocts an ingenious scheme to discover the incriminating photograph's location in Adler's house, will he be able to obtain it in time to prevent a great scandal tainting the honour of his client the king?

This book includes cartoonish illustrations that capture the plot and characters nicely and will be sure to an extra layer of entertainment for young readers as they follow Sherlock Holmes in the fast-paced hunt for the king's photograph with Irene Adler. This entire series will be an excellent introduction for kids to Conan Doyle's classic stories, and will hopefully inspire them to read the originals as well! I will certainly be recommending this series to my young mystery-loving students as a next step from the Famous Five and Secret Seven books.

The king of Bohemia is being threatened by an actress who he once used to be in love with, she has a photograph of them together and threatens to ruin his prospective marriage to a princess. He recruits Holmes to help him get the picture back.

This wa a very simple case and not a great deal really happened within this one, in my opinion. It was still a interesting read and I had no idea how Holmes was planning to get the picture back for his client, I just didn’t feel like it was a very exciting case, just a simple blackmailing of exes story.

This series is such fun and even though this case wasn’t one I cared for very much, I still liked reading it and seeing this case unfolding and how Holmes snook around to do all he wanted to do for the case.

Another brilliant Sherlock Holmes retelling! I’m once again begging the publisher to release physical copies as I know quite a few customers who’d love these!

This one introduces us to Irene Adler and as usual the illustrations are perfectly matched and well timed within the text! Not to mention the essence of the story is perfectly communicated in just 6 chapters and easy to understand language.

As I already wrote in a review for another book in this series this is an excellent work that can be appreciated by children and adult.
The artwork is lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I love the original Sherlock Holmes stories and am thrilled that I can read these with my younger readers! So much fun and true to the originals but made into a story that kids and teens can follow easier. Grab the entire series!!

I love this story by Arthur Conan Doyle and it has been wonderfully adapted here. Telling the story in simplicity and staying true to the original, Sherlock Holmes meets his match in Irene Adler and the Scandal in Bohemia.

With some great little illustrations peppered throughout, it’s a great read for younger readers wanting to venture into the world of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. It’s an entertaining story of the great consulting detective up against a clever opponent and it was a joy to read.

A nice early chapter book with short chapters and grey scale pictures. An opportunity to introduce children to the classics of the past. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to check it out!

The whole family love this range of books and we have read more than half the series. Each one is a beautifully condensed version of the original Sherlock Holmes story but written in a way to make it more accessible to a younger audience. Comes with illustrations. Excellent bedtime stories.

This is a retelling of the classic Sherlock Holmes mystery but told in an easier format for children and they are also illustrated by Eve O'Brien.

I really like the retellings of Sherlock Holmes as I think the older classics can be hard to read and these books make it easier to appreciate..

This is a great story.. and one that I loved... Sherlock Holmes receives a visitor from the King of Bohemia and takes on the case of retrieving revealing photographs of the King and the opera singer Irene Adler, Irene has contacted the King and threatens to blackmail him on the day of the Kings engagement so they need to retrieve this photograph... Irene is a great foe for Sherlock, an equal and this was a great story that leant itself well to adaption.

The books are pithy and they are a faithful retelling of the classic story, these books are a great accompaniment to the original stories

This was a short and simple adaptation of the Holmes story for young readers. A good introduction into the world of Holmes and Watson without being overwhelming. Easy to read with some illustrations.
