I had the pleasure of reading this recently
And the audio book was just beautiful and made me fall in love with Mika even more
I loved everything about this book, the characters were all wonderful and the story captured me from the first page. Funny warm witchy fun in every chapter, a slow burn romance that was really sweet I just want to start reading it again it was so good.
The narrator did an amazing job the voices were all distinct and the various accents were very well done would definitely listen to more books read by this narrator.
I will be looking for more from this author and cannot recommend this book highly enough would give it more stars if I could.
A (sometimes), slightly inappropriate and often clichéd read about a witch who is asked to tutor three young girls. Mika posts a video on her social media 'outing' herself as a witch, much to the uproar of others. Her social media video is a hit, however, and Mika is called into the employment of Nowhere House. We learn that all witches are orphaned when they are young and that it is inappropriate for groups of witches to be together. Much mischief ensues from the three young girls as they experiment with their magic, a particularly disturbing scene towards the end involving a dancing skeleton.
I enjoyed this fun book as Mika tries to help the three girls control and shape their magic. There are a few fun twists in this book that I didn't see coming, like Lilian.
There are similarities with 'The house on the Cerulean sea' and 'The Golden Compass' with the gold dust (although not in a creepy way of stealing the child's daemon). I liked the idea that magic and, indeed gold dust, is like a naughty puppy that you have to be firm with in order to control it.
This book grabbed me from the opening paragraph. It’s funny, its heartwarming and the subtlety of some of the scenes had me both laughing and crying. A book to be savoured and recommended
Whimsical!
A beautiful weather calls out for a beautiful book to read.
"Alone is how we survive"
Setup in Britain the story revolves around a group of witches who only meet eachother on certain occassion & otherwise carry out their regular course of life to avoid suspicions.
One day Mica receive an invite to be a tutor at a secret mansion & take the leap of faith. There she discovers a lot of witch laws out of place & a group of inhabitants that will do anything for eachother. Getting herself entangled in their lives and magical dust, she discovers the big trouble that awaits them. Stuck between the safety of herself and the longing for a troubled family she has to decide if the Gorgon is with calling to fight the Gargoyle.
*My experience*
The story helps you feel the sweet bitter place relationships hold in one's life. How important role memory places to be attached to a person and leave a mark on the world.
This one was a found family feeling with light happiness and magic dust sprinkled over like a cake. Though I guessed the story halfway through but I was excited to see the authors take on how this will end.
A 🪄🪄🪄🪄/5 magic wands to a sweet n light story that keeps you smiling.
She tasted like sea salt, sugar and lightening too, if lightening had a taste

This story follows Mika moon, a witch who is lonely with her secret and only meets up with witches in her society once every three months
When Mika gets offered a job to help three young witches control their magic, she’s a little apprehensive as she’s only ever known to be by herself.
But as the time goes on, she learns to realise she doesn’t need to be herself and possibly finds a family. But Mika needs to pass the obstacles to make sure her new family are safe.
I absolutely adored this book! It really gave me cosy vibes with unexpected romance and a tiny bit of spice!
I loved the found family trope and I love how accepted Mika finally became and she found her family.
I do feel like the drama of the story was based around the solicitor visiting and they had to control their magic but when it finally came to it, they legit just locked him in the shed and then then he got his memories wiped. It just seemed a little anticlimactic.
Although I wasn’t expecting the plot twist primrose! That was a nice twist to it but I am glad it had a happy ending.
Overall, loved the story line, it was cute, cosy and a really well written read!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this arc in exchange of my honest review
Oh my gosh! I think I just found one of my top 5 2022 books!
This book had me absolutely hooked, so much so that I listened to it within 24hours!
I loved Mika and Jamie's love story and I even developed a soft spot for Terracotta and her tiny Murderous ways!
I loved the narrator, she was absolutely amazing and the accents were spot on!
I can't wait to purchase a physical copy of this book!
This was a fun audiobook to listen to on my daily walks and is the fantasy equivalent of a cosy crime novel.
These are not the witches of Rowling or of Shakespeare, it’s more Molly Harper territory but without the snark or A A Albright with less Ireland. Lots of fun characters, romance and a sweet plot.
If you like cosy magic with a slightly adult twist, this one’s for you.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an audio book ARC in exchange for an honest review.
What a lovely book.
Think The House in the Cerulean Sea but set in the UK and with witches.
I enjoyed everything about this book - from the wonderful characters with great development, to the gentle but moving plot and the themes of the true meaning of family, love and acceptance (and of course witchcraft. I’m always a sucker for that).
Sometimes you’re in the mood for something fast paced and thrilling, but sometimes you need a warm hug in the shape of a book, and this is that hug I needed.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for providing me with an audioARC of this title for review. The narrator was perfect, the accents she used for each character made it easy to follow who was speaking and her voice overall complimented the writing beautifully.
Really enjoyed this book! I listened to it on audiobook and it was really well done. The narrator did a grand job capturing all the accents. We follow Mika , a witch who has kept her identity a secret due to the rules of witch society. Despite this, she is called upon to help 3 young witches train and learn to control their powers. This book is a touch of The house on the cerulean sea mixed with some romance . Definitely not a young adult book though. Fair bit of swearing and one slightly spicy scene! Anyway, it was thoroughly enjoyable!
I had such a great time reading this!
Mika (love her name, by the way) is a great protagonist. I loved her dynamic with the kid witches and I also loved her relationship with Jamie aka the broody librarian love interest.
Sangu Mandanna pulled off the found family trope exceptionally well. I usually don't like kids in books all that much, the author managed to make me really like them here.
This story was just so refreshing and fun. And of course witchy. I think what really sold me was that it didn't take itself to seriously. There isn't a huge amount of world building, it's just fun and quirky. I mean, look at the character's names: Mika Moon, Lillian Nowhere (who's mostly absent), Terracotta (kid witch, like her sisters named after great archaeological discoveries by Lillian).
Overall this was a lovely read and I really hope the author decides to write a spin-off of this book.
On the audiobook version:
I really enjoyed the audiobook, the narrator did a good job with it.
4.25-4.5⭐️
A new author to me. I had the audiobook 🎧version narrated by Samara macLaren, I think her style fits perfectly. She has a light fun easy going style
Mika Moon is a witch from a family of witches. When witches are born they are always orphaned. She is lonely as every time her carers got a glimpse of her magical powers she was moved on and their memories erased so she has no lasting ties with anyone.
She meets up with the other witches in the UK in a secret society on the 3rd Thursday every 3 months. To the annoyance of the society Mika has been posting videos of her pretending to be a witch, it’s from these that she is discovered and begged to go to Nowhere house to help teach 3 young witches to control their magic.
Its a light easy entertaining uplifting heart warming fun summer read. Theres a diverse mix of characters. The pace is slower, the plot a bit thin, I loved the end. it’s the characters which drive this book, I was smitten.
The cover and theme makes it look innocuous, and child friendly but there is bad language and sex scenes.
I loved that she called her car the broomstick 😍
If you like a light read with magic and witches I would recommend this book. I really liked that the setting is the UK a lot of the witch books seem to be set in the US.
Little Witch Academia x The House in the Cerulean Sea alert!
A truly lovely story about found family and cozy witchcraft! I must admit that I fell in love with all the characters (especially the three young witches) head first. The writing style is simple and fluid, the storylines make sense and I loved the side romance (grumpy x sunshine stan account forever). The fact that most of the cast are people of colours and that lgbtq+ people casually appears... My heart. We need more stories like this one please!
I mostly read this one as an audiobook and I loved the narrator's work and different accents. very well done and enjoyable.
A beautifully lovely and heartwarming story that will capture your soul and let you drift through this journey like leaves on the wind. This story and the writing style is close to that of the ‘cerulean sea’ and ‘under the Whispering door’ and yet has its own unique sense to it. So if you are a fan of those two books then I would highly recommend reading this one especially if you are looking for something that will warm your soul with a pinch of steamy scenes added. I have to say that the steamy scenes did get me a bit as I was not expecting them with how flowing and gentle the writing style and story was going. This does not mean that I didn’t enjoy them, though they were quite simplified in what happened and less descriptive than other steamy scenes I have read in the past, they had that edge of heat to them.
I am writing this review straight off finishing the book a couple of minutes ago and the only way to describe the feeling I get is: tranquil. The book itself and the journey that they takes you all the way through to the ending does have that sense of emotion to it but having read the last page it feels as if my heart has settled to the same calming beat as those scenes. Calming and completely beautiful to read. This however is not just about a society, it is about and unhappiness that sits in this main character’s heart and how she works through it discovering that being a witch is not the burden that she sees it as, and the journey in which she takes to become a little bit more happy with her life and herself as a witch and as a person. It’s an emotional journey that as I said above leaves you feeling calm.
Do you not worry as well as this is not a spoiler, trust me when I say that when you read this book you will want to read from start to finish the journey in which she goes through and all the characters you fall in love with throughout, and even though you can see where the ending is going you still want to know how they get there and travel the path with them to the destination.
I also received an audiobook version of the Advanced readers copy and I have to say that the reader did an exquisite job of letting the book flow through her words, giving the characters their true vibes and bring in the book to life in the way that it was meant to be.
A massive thank you to Hodder and Kate for sending me a beautiful advance readers copy of this tranquil book that has left me feeling so calm and yet so excited for everyone to read themselves in August.
An utterly captivating book, I knew from the first page that I would absolutely love it. Filled with magic, friendship and love it has a wondrously joyful feeling which carries you along to the perfect ending. I would give it ten stars if I could, I so hope this is going to be the first in a series.
Story well written & great narration.
Great world building, fascinating characters & captivating plot.
Thank you to the publishers and Netgalley for the ARC.
This was such a lovely, cozy, quiet but at the same time loud story. I very much enjoyed all of it and wouldn't be opposed to more stories from this world.
I really loved the magic in this world.
The audiobook was brilliant.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this audiobook!
Really didn't want it to finish! Quirky, funny with a little bit of romance and drama!
A charming romance filled with magic.
This book gives off major House in the Cerulean Sea vibes, from the cover to the person summoned to a house to help three orphans in need.
The characters were believable and I rooted for them the entire way through. The romance was gorgeous and the found family was one of the best I’ve read!!
It fell a little flat for me in some points, with me skimming through paragraphs to stop myself becoming bored, but I still think this is a must read for romance and magic lovers and supporters of anything witchy!
3.5 rounded up to 4.
