What a good read! I love anything Fae and was so excited to start this. The world building was great and the story was awesome and action packed. I am glad that this book depicts more of the bad side of the fae. Fae are full of trickery and mistrust and you definitely find that here. I am interested to see where Jenna takes us in the next installment.

Of Mist and Shadow has everything I love in a book. I did not want to put it down! From the start I felt truly immersed in the story. This book was such a fast-paced, action packed, quick read.
I absolutely loved the characters in the book and I really hope to see more of some of the side characters as the series continues. Plus the slow burn in this story was so well done. I really have nothing bad to say about this book. Jenna’s writing kept me so engaged with the characters. I was really in need of a fast-paced read, so this was the perfect book for me.
My heart was broken and put back together many times throughout. After that ending, I’m DYING for book 2 and can’t wait to see how everything plays out.
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When the vicious fae king catches Tessa stealing powerful gemstones from his mines, he demands a cruel punishment. She must leave her family and friends behind and become his future human bride.
Tessa has never stepped foot inside the glittering fae city until now no mortal is allowed. There, things are far more monstrous than she ever dreamed. King Oberon humiliates her, terrorizes her, and threatens those she loves.
But when she escapes, someone far worse finds her. The lethal Mist King, the enemy fae who trapped her people beneath the reign of King Oberon in the first place. The one who destroyed human cities and watched them burn.
He takes her captive and then offers her a deal.
Become the first mortal to kill a fae king, and he will free her people.
But the mists beyond the kingdom walls are dangerous, ruthless, and mesmerizing…and so is he. As Tessa fights her growing desire, she must make a choice.
Her dagger can kill only one fae. Which king will it be?
Wow totally recommend couldn’t put it down and I can’t wait for the next book I enjoyed from start to finish
Thank You NetGalley and Co-Op
I just reviewed Of Mist and Shadow by Jenna Wolfhart. #OfMistandShadow #NetGalley

I loved this fast paced, dark fantasy! I read this in less than two days, I couldn’t put it down! I really enjoyed the main character Tessa. She was willing to do what it takes to protect and save her family from the horrible Fae King Oberon. I though the world building was great and wanted to keep exploring this magical, wicked world the author created! I really enjoyed the chemistry between Tessa and the Mist King! There were definitely some twists and some parts that had me on the edge of my seat! After that ending though.. I am dying to read the next book!

Four and a half
I love books about the Fae and here we get thoroughly nasty ones ! Plus the action and world building starts strongly from page one with a protagonist who is plucky and loyal. The things Tessa goes through to protect those she cares about are truly vile and abhorrent but she manages to escape although I’m not sure if anyone would think she’s exactly safe . Torn between two powerful Fae Kings you would think that the author would feel that’s more than enough angst and danger but in this world there are even more surprises as ancient Gods make their presence felt !
This is definitely a series I’m keen to read more of as this book ended in such a way that I’m gnashing my teeth. I sadly didn’t like everything (the sister ) and if this is going to turn into a romance then it’s pretty slow burn. However I’m beyond intrigued by what really happens to the new Queens and exactly what it all means for the King and his realm. This was full of mystery and suspense and definitely this new to me author has penned a very interesting tale.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

This story follows Tessa, a human that lives in the Kingdom of Light that is now surrounded by deadly mists thanks to the Mist King, and her and her fellow humans live in a place that is severely oppressed by the light fae and their king, Oberon. Tessa has been stealing King Oberon's gems for a rebel fae who claims if he gets enough, he can free the humans from the mists and King Oberon. Well, Tessa gets caught by King Oberon, but surprisingly, he lets her go. Tessa is unsure why until the next day when King Oberon is to select his next human wife, he selects Tessa. She has a month to either kill the king, or get out.
I think the concept and idea of this book was great! I really liked the world, the magic, and of course the fae. The fae are not your friends in this book. They treat humans rather poorly, and so some that Tessa meets who seem kind, it makes you wonder whether they're genuine, or if they have an endgame. I really liked the mystery, and trying to figure out who is telling the truth or not the truth. It was an endless guessing game for me throughout the entirety of the book.
For the most part I liked the characters, however, the real reason I gave this three stars is because of Tessa, our female MC. She started off fine, but then she became rather petulant, who acts on emotions, and doesn't believe anyone, and instead of thinking logically, she acts out without thinking. I kept forgetting she is supposed to be 25 through the entire book. She acted like she was more like 16 or younger. The decisions she made she never thought through and tended to not end well for her.
I really did like the story, Tessa just made it difficult for me to read and enjoy the book. The ending was interesting, and I may read the next book just to see how the story continues. I received a free digital copy to read(thank you to NetGalley and the publisher). All thoughts and opinions are my own.

What a great book! It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to get into a fantasy book. But this one did for it.
Tessa is caught stealing gems in the mine of King Oberon. Her punishment? Become his bride for the next 75 years. Tessa only way out is help from the Mist King who is said to be just as bad.
This book drew me in. I loved the characters and the land Jenna created. Her writing is fantastic. I can really visualize the monsters and the scenes.
This is a slow burn, enemies to lovers book. It does leave on a cliff hanger so I am excited for book 2

The beginning of the book instantly captured my attention from the first line. I like how the book started in the middle of action that showed the main character and the world she lives in, not just a slow world building start. It jumped right into the action.
I love fantasy books about Fae and this is no different. I loved it! It was fast paced and full of action.
I love Tessa because from the start she is confident and sure of herself. A lot of books like this start with the character being docile and shy, and some incident sparking them to become more strong and powerful. But Tessa starts that way from the very beginning.
I am so upset because of the ending with the mist king. I need answers!!! There were so many twists right at the ending.
I am dying to read the second book!

I received an ARC Of Mist and Shadow by Jenna Wolfhart from NetGalley. This was the first book I’ve read by Jenna Wolfhart, but it won’t be my last. Of Mist and Shadow is a slow burn, enemies to lover, high fantasy romance.
The world building was very well done and the character development was amazing. There were times I hated King Oberon so much, I wanted to toss my kindle on the floor. (I restrained myself but barely) There are a couple of twist near the end of the book that I didn’t see coming. And I love when that happens! You know an author has done a good job when there is a twist you don’t see coming.
The book ends on a mild cliff hanger, but it’s not the type of cliff hanger that makes you want to cry. It’s the good kind. The kind that makes you count the days until the next book is released. Overall, this book is a solid five stars. I can’t wait to read the next one!

3.7 stars
This book screams "action packed thrill ride" from the start! The main character of the book, Tessa, is easy to read (in the best way possible) from the start. The reader is able to tell just how loyal, likable, and steadfast she truly is. Within the first few pages, I was on the edge of my seat and quickly attempting to get through pages to read more and discover what would happen next. I often found myself laughing at the subtle jokes or stabs between characters (especially Alastair...I NEED more Alastair!).
This story was certainly a mixture of Hunger Games and ACOTAR. The character relationships were built quickly but with strength, and I immediately took to liking a group of them. The true distraction from the book itself, for me, was that I (the reader) had more information than the main character for the majority of the book. I felt as if I knew much more than she did. For some readers, this could be an advantage, but I felt that it took away from the element of surprise and detracted from the suspense factor.
In addition, I felt as if the dialogue could have been a bit more advanced. A lot of the time the main character spoke rather obvious statements, or things that the reader could have inferred. The only other thing that truly took away from it, for me, was the twist with her sister...it felt almost too far-fetched.
Overall, I truly enjoyed Of Mist and Shadow! It is worth running to grab from the shelf. As a quick read with a twist toward the end, it left me ready for book two!
A very big thank you to Jenna Wolfhart and NetGalley for allowing me to access this title in advance in exchange for an honest review.

Holy moly this book!
You have everything you could possibly need in a fantasy book!
Enemies-to-Lovers, Slow burn romance, one-bed, forced proximity, who did this to you trope
You have strong female lead characters, a well written plot and the strongest sexual chemistry I've ever read
Definite must read!

I really loved this book. In fact I loved it so much that this may just be my new favorite dark fantasy read. The characters were so well written that I found myself completely invested in their stories, to the point where I finished the book in less than 24 hours. Oh and once again I found myself falling for the morally grey Fae king (as I should, Kalen is great). This book also contains pretty much all of my favorite tropes with enemies to lovers, one bed, one horse, who did this to you, and a strong FMC.
I think the thing I admire the most about our FMC Tessa is her strength. She has been through so much trauma throughout her life and even throughout the book but continues to show us not to underestimate her. She would do absolutely anything for her family and that really shows throughout the book.
My only complaint is really the smallest thing and that’s that the book ends on a cliffhanger and I am such an impatient person that I really want to see what happens next. I will be eagerly awaiting book two.
Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing for giving me an arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Rating: 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Holy crap, was this book good.
This was my first book by Jenna and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Her writing just flowed so well that you sometimes forgot how much time was passing (I may or may not have been late to an appointment but it was soooo worth it). That ending cliff hanger had me screaming into a pillow, I would pay obscene amount of money to find out what happens next.
One thing I loved was the representation of how strong female bonds can be and the impact they have on a person. The bond that Tessa has with Val and Nessie was my favourite and it was written so well. But I also loved the way the relationship between Kalen, Niamh, Alastair and Toryn was written. They gave me found-family trope vibes and reminded me a lot of the inner circle from ACOTAR.
I couldn’t write this review and not talk about Tessa and Kalen. The sexual tension that they both had was *chefs kiss*. I became so emotionally invested into them both as individuals and together! I can’t wait to see how their feelings for each other grows in the next book. Of Mist and Shadow has some of my favourite tropes as well (Enemies-to-Lovers, Slow burn romance, one-bed, forced proximity, who did this to you). But they were done so well.
I think the best thing was Jenna has left room for characters to develop and mature so that we can feel even closer to them in future books.
The one thing I would of love to have seen is more chapters from Kalen POV (but that might just me being greedy lmao)
Overall, I can’t recommend Of Mist and Shadow enough!! It had me on the edge of my seat for the entire thing and it never once disappointed. I can not wait for book 2!!
*Thank you to Jenna Wolfhart and Netgallery for this ARC in exchange for an honest review*

I absolutely LOVED this fantasy read. It’s the first book to the series. I was extremely impressed by the story and the writing right away. What a surprise this one was. I got super consumed to it and was on the edge of my seat most the book.
The characters were amazing, and not knowing who to trust just makes it even more fun of a read. It’s intense and you get so emotionally sucked in. I really felt for the FMC, and the struggles she went through and how strong she is. She might be a mortal but she’s stronger then any fae imo, shes continued to take so much. It leaves you on such a cliff hanger and I can’t wait to continue with this series because I’m so invested and need to know what happens next ASAP! Definitely recommend this one.

I really wanted to like this book. The premise itself has so much potential but unfortunately it fell flat for me.
There is a map, which I love and that helps to keep track of things. The FMC is meant to be in her 20s but I thought she came across as a lot younger due her attitude, the decisions she makes, the way she talks etc.
There are a few plot twists but I predicted them very early on and some are very obvious. I didn't really enjoy the slow burn, just because of the way it was written.
The ending wasn't satisfying and although there was a cliff hanger, it's not enough to make me want to read the next book.
This was an "OK" book for me. I think a lot more could've been done with the plot and pacing to make it a better read.
*Thank you to @netgalley and @victoryeditingngc for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review*

First of all, thank you to Jenna Wolfhart and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for providing me with an ARC and here is my honest opinion regarding this book.
I really enjoyed it.
I was really invested in Kenna's life and most of the time sometimes, I thought she really really needed to get her perspective straight and take into consideration the pain and unhappiness she caused to those around her. I understand that Kenna faced horror and tragedy, but she doesn't pause to think, that she isn't the only one that faced the same, and she is the one causing pain to her loved ones. Kenna was too defiant and selfish, but her age and vulnerability make up for that. Jenna manages to portray Kenna as an individual, with extremely high potential to mature and I can't wait to read how Kenna evolves.
Kalen was great as the character, his vulnerability and pain were evident. The only problem I felt is that Kalen being centuries old, sometimes acted like a spoiled child.
The romance was okay, I think both of the characters need to grow more individually before the romance progresses.
What really shined in this book is Oberon, the vicious fae king, and the world development. I am so looking forward to more of Oberon and why everything is the way it is.
The plot has so many underlying complex characters, including Nellie and Morgan, and subplots, including Kenna's parent's story. I am looking forward to the next book.
