I loved the story in this book. Rosie is an adventurous girl who is very brave. I was made to feel like I was going on an adventure with her. The other characters were also very cute. I felt like I was in a beautiful fantasy world.
This Sci Fi middle grade text is definitely an interesting one! The story follows Rosie, an 11 year old girl whose uncle and his african cat Asrapi and penguin Robert visit her and her friends, the adventure begins, and what an adventure it is! Readers will be along for the ride with this group of unusual characters who face their fears, travel in time and space, and fight for what is right! I am not much of a sci-fi or fantasy fan, but this is a popular genre for middle graders and I think that readers will enjoy the magical and unbelievable elements of this story. Divided into 30 fairly long chapters, this over 300 page book is perfect for older middle grade readers who are ready for a child. I think that it would be best for readers who have strong comprehension and are able to visualize creatures and places that are described in a book. The vocabulary is fairly high level, with words like: emphatically, emitted and materialized, so it is definitely better suited to older middle grade or young adult readers. I would recommend this book to middle years teachers or parents of readers in the grade 6-9 range who are strong readers with a love of challenging texts and sci-fi themes. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, and especially the author, Natalie Petraki for making it possible for me to read and review this book.
