Interesting read. I'm not normally a literary reader, but the cover drew me in and the story didn't disappoint.
An intriguing read of a novel, Marlon Hayes’s 11:59 is a most enjoyable tale. It is a fictional autobiography with each chapter beginning with a graphic of a countdown time clock. It’s 11:59 and Rob Jackson reflects on his life, as he only has a minute left to live. As a black child in Mississippi, the narrative reveals his childhood, family, education, career, relationships and travels that make Rob the person he is. With its totally unexpected ending, like a bolt from the blue, Rob’s journey of finding meaning and ultimately love proves nothing is ever as it seems. A fascinating saga of one man’s life that is cultural storytelling at its best, with a four star read rating. With thanks to Motina Books and the author, for an uncorrected advanced reader copy for review purposes. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own and freely given.
