I enjoyed reading this one. I found the topic interesting and along with the storyline it was a good read.

I liked the way it was written with a few surprises thrown in here and there which kept me guessing until the end. I also enjoyed learning more about bees on the way and thought the recipes at the back were a cute idea.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this ebook in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed yet another offering from Jodi Piccoult. Lots of twists and turns, you're drawn in from the very beginning. The lead character is really well written. My only negative is the end - it felt like a rushed after thought.

Olivia a single mother with a teenage son is devastated when her son is the prime suspect in the death of his girlfriend.
I didn’t enjoy this books as much as this author’s previous books but I found parts really interesting especially the part about bee keeping.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

I’m a relative newcomer to Jodie Picoult books, only having read her last two book. I absolutely loved reading Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan. As I was reading the book, I was trying to work out which of the authors had written which sections of the book. I found the notes at the end of the book on how Jodie Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan came together to write the book and their process of writing collaboratively fascinating.

As with the other Jodie Picoult books, this is very well researched. I found the information on apiary sprinkled throughout the book absolutely fascinating and I went on and did more research on bee-keeping!

The book centres on an apiarist Olivia and her teenage son Asher who live in a small town on the East Coast. Asher starts dating the new girl in school, Lily, and all is good until it isn’t and he’s arrested for Lily’s murder.

I found the process of building Asher’s defence really interesting and how it played out in court. Also, interesting was the secrets that all the characters kept from one another for differing reasons - self-preservation, not wanting to hurt others, etc.

I don’t want to say anymore about the plot and let slip any of the huge reveals of the book. This is a really thought-provoking book and also quite topical.

Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Hodder & Stoughton, for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

It has been a long time since I read a Jodi Piccolo book, but Mad Honey has made me remember exactly why she was one of my favourite authors for years. There's something so honest and unflinching about her writing, making every book captivating from start to finish. I don't want to go into any details here as I don't want any spoilers, but this book really made me reevaluate how I think about certain issues raised in the story.

I loved it! Jodi Picoult never disappoints. Thought provoking book with engaging characters. I completely understand the hype about this book possibly being banned. Jodi Picoult at her best.

This book is primarily about 2 families and about how their past has shaped them, new starts and the secrets they have and which they chose to keep from others. Olivia fled her abusive marriage and returned to her home town with her young son Asher to protect him and take over looking after the bees. Lily and her Mum moved to escape their past and start afresh. Lily and Asher start a relationship and end up falling in love. Everything seems perfect until Lily ends up dead and Asher is accused of her murder. Does Olivia really know her son? Is everything really as it seems?
At first I was quite apprehensive as it was written by two authors and is the first fiction book I've read written by two authors. However I needn't have worried, the book flowed and if it wasnt stated I would not have guessed that was written by two authors. There is no doubt that Jodi Picoult does her research around the subject areas she covers and this book is no exception. The parts about beekeeping are very detailed and you can tell that she heavily researched this, I knew nothing about bees or beekeeping so found this interesting but at times a little much. As with all Jodi Picoult books ut deals with challenging but very important issues. It makes you think about your own thought processes and beliefs amd makesbyou think about what it would be like and how you would feel if you were going through the aame things as the characters.
It did take me a little while to get into and I did find some of the chapters a bit long but I guess that's just down to my personal preference of shorter chapters. I also found that it took a little while to get to the courtroom drama and maybe would have liked to have this action happen earlier in the book.
Overall, . It's definitely a thought provoking read around important issues and kept me guessing about what the outcome would be.

This is my first Jodi Picoult book and I can see why she has such a large and loyal following. Even without reading her earlier works I was aware that she is not afraid to tackle difficult and complex topics, far from it. Though courtroom dramas are not my favourite genre, the prospect of her collaboration with Jennifer Finney Boylan made this the perfect opportunity to finally pick up her work. In Mad Honey we meet Olivia, an apiarist who fled a violent marriage and lives with her teenage son Asher on what was once her parents' farm. Asher is dating Lily, a girl who has recently moved to the area with her own single mother. The two are infatuated with one another but both are haunted by their pasts and the fathers that are no longer in their lives but who continue to cast long shadows. All is not smooth sailing as they struggle to deal with these issues and with Asher's flashes of temper which he is terrified reveal a dark side inherited from his father. One day, tragedy strikes. Lily is dead and Asher is accused of her murder. Olivia is horrified and enlists the help of her older brother, a successful defence lawyer but she can't help but reconsider past evidence of Asher's impatience and temper and wonder whether he is more like his father than she dares think.

The real strength of this gripping book is the writing. By structuring it as they have, with Olivia's narrative taking us forwards in time and Lily's taking us back they create a compelling and challenging read that keeps you guessing. Giving Lily a voice even though he death occurs early in the story is a masterstroke, meaning that she is a character in her own right, rather than just a victim or a creation of others' perceptions. She is real rather than just a tool of the narrative, something that is vital in a story like this. This storyline as well as Olivia's past were the most interesting to me, the trial itself less so but that's just a personal preference and by interweaving the legal scenes with the other strands the authors ensure that the story doesn't get too bogged down. The conclusion of the trial was fascinating but the final twist didn't quite work for me, I'm not sure why. One niggle I did have was the revelation about Lily's past that emerges, it seemed very unlikely that this information wouldn't have come to light earlier due to media interest in the case or just as information provided to the jury and the attorneys. That being said, I don't know enough about the legal system to say that it is impossible but it did seem a little implausible.

When I read comments from Jodi Picoult that she suspected this book would be banned, I thought she was being overreactive but no, I reading it can see why it would cause controversy among some which means it has an important story to tell and should be out there in the world.
Mad Honey is a court room based novel like Jodi Picoult's older novels which I adored and Jorden from nineteen minutes makes an appearance adding depth to the world building. Told in several multiple points of view, the truth of the story was eked out taking me on a journey into Olivia and Lily's life and the reasons leading up to her death. I couldn't stop reading.
Like all my favourite Jodi Picoult novels is littered with facts which the characters know. In this case, it's bees. I've always loved bees so to join Olivia as she checks her hives was a joy and Lily had a fact for most occasions giving an insight into her personality. Lily was a wonderful character and could easily have read her story in isolation.
The topics covered were told with the love and care, you'd expect from Jodi Picoult and the collaboration with Jennifer Finney Boylan worked well as I couldn't tell who wrote what. A must read for this year

Absolutely Picoult at her best - keep writing with Jenny Boylan please! I was completely gripped by this to the point of doing little else. There are some great well timed twists and the narrative goes forward and back around the event being told by two different people. Don’t want to give anything away but I learnt a lot and not just about honey. Fabulous read, six stars.

Love al, of Jodi Picoults books and this latest one did not disappoint, it had me hooked from beginning to end, loved it! Definitely worth reading

I love Jodi Picoult because her books never get repetitive in the same way some authors can. Mad Honey is another example of this and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. My favourite part of the book was how it jumped backwards and forwards in time and w you really get inside the skin of the characters. I will be recommending to my book group and friends.

A very modern, brave topical story of Asher and Lily’s love story which goes wrong in the worst possible way.
Without giving too much away, this is a very poignant tale of murder and love with a very current and poignant message. You will not see the twist coming! A brilliant read.

Of course I was drawn to this book because it had bees on the cover! Obviously also because it was wrote by 2 fantastic authors. I wasn't let down either. I thoroughly enjoyed this and the rollercoaster of emotions it bought from start to finish. I truly appreciate the process of how we get to enjoy honey on our toast or in our tea since the journey of beekeeping was thoroughly researched and detailed.

Although beekeeping plays a strong part in this story, the book is based within the legal world covering a very difficult issue. However like Lily I'll be keeping shtum so you can uncover it be yourself as this is a book that you're best off going in without knowing too much. Honestly have faith and you will devour it!

This book was written by two outstanding authors that it's hard to decipher who wrote what. Definitely check the authors note when you're finished.

All you need to know is this book is so so raw, emotional, thought-provoking and just so darn good!!!

"mad honey" was not quite what I expected. Though I liked the plot itself, I thought it took a little too much time. I would have like a little more things happening (concerning the trial). It took some time too, to get used to the little leaps in the time line. What I loved, were the little insights into the live of a beekeper and the bees themselves and how they were connected to the story. All in all, though I liked what it all ended up as, I kind of struggled, to read through the whole thing.
