Wow what a read! Absolutely loved this and found that I learnt so much through the pain and joy of the story. Beautifully written with words that just touch your heart. This book will definitely stay with me for a while and that is when you know it’s exceptional.
Highly recommended and it so deserves the 5 stars.
Thank you Netgalley
I don't know where to begin to review this book without giving spoilers!
This book was a bit of a slow burner to begin which wasn't helped that I couldn't read it in long chunks due to life/work commitments. However once I got to the main part of the story and the major reveal half way through I was hooked.
I loved that the story was told in dual narration, it was really interesting seeing things from both Olivia and Lily's perspectives. I did have an idea of who had been involved in the murder however I was completely wrong!
This was a very thought provoking story. The detail and depth of which the topics were discussed was phenomenal. I learnt a great deal.
Yes there were a lot of discussions and topics described that may make some people uncomfortable and there certainly are some trigger warnings related to DV. However these discussions are so important to have and I think they were written beautifully and sensitively. I myself have learnt a great deal and will be thinking about this book for a long time to come.
I was initially drawn in by the sunshine yellow colour and because I’d heard a lot about Jodi Picoult’s writing, and Mad Honey was incredibly moving and emotional. I’m not normally one to gravitate towards sad reads but I enjoyed this
This story is genius. It is difficult to describe too much without giving away some very big spoilers but it was incredible and definitely worth the read.
Asher is being raised by his mother Olivia, who is a beekeeper and fled an abusive relationship with Asher’s father. Not wanting him to turn out like his father, she started again with her son and rebuilt her life entirely. But Asher’s girlfriend Lily is found murdered and he is the number one suspect, especially after his own secrets start tumbling out for the court.
This book is a fascinating read form Jodi Picoult. She excels at writing books that are varied and interesting. This is no exception. The book keeps you reading through to the end. There are twists and turns.throughout that are thought provoking. I really enjoyed this book and love this author's writing.
Its really hard to tell you all the things I loved about this book without giving away the fiest big twist that occurs but I'm both uplifted by the portrayal and heartbroken.
Everyone should read it. I hate calling books poignant but this one definitely deserves it. Also bees are the best.
A beautiful, tragic read. I was really invested in the characters and missed them once I finished the book. Highly recommended.
This was such an interesting read and I found myself so invested with the characters. that I couldn't put the book down. You couldn't tell the book was written by two authors, their chapters blended seamlessly.
This was such an interesting read! I found myself so engrossed in the story, the characters had such incredible arcs, and I can't wait to follow this author's journey!
I received an advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to NetGalley, Hodder & Stoughton and the authors Jodie Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan.
Well written and with strong visuals and characters, but slightly lacking depth. There was something about the story that just felt incomplete and disjointed, leaving an unfinished and undeveloped feeling at the end. Not for me!
I usually love books by Jodi Picoult and was so looking forward to reading this one. However, although I tried my best with Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan I could not finish it. The bee facts I felt did not contribute to the story and it made me feel the story was disjointed due to this.
Mad Honey will put you through an emotional ringer as you read. It will make you smile through your tears in part as it can be so tender but then it will utterly break your heart. Impossible to put down, the plot twist mid way through will have you gasping and reading until you've finished the book in one sitting.
I love Picoult’s writing and this is some of her best. A very sensitive subject to tackle and to be honest not one I was excited about reading. But as ever covered really well, very informative, complex characters and very well told. Very tough issues but I am sure that most readers will leave this book much better informed than when they started. Plus the bee facts were fascinating! Well done to both authors.
I haven’t read a Jodi Picoult novel in years, so this was a real treat. It faced difficult issues as usual, and was wonderfully written. I found myself desperate to read more and to find out what happened next.
I enjoyed the depth of the story but found it a bit slow to begin with. I would recommend persevering as it is a wonderful story with twists and turns.
Once again Jodi manages to address a very difficult and sensitive subject in such a way that the reader is educated, informed but not overwhelmed and indoctrinated. This was a sweet and nice read regarding that part of it. Recommended.
This was another novel by Picoult that I could not put down at all. I have loved every one of her books and this one is the same. The characterisation and writing were just beautiful. Another fantastic success for Picoult.
Unfortunately this book wasn't for me and I cannot say too much about it for a lot of reasons. But I don't agree with a lot of what was in it.
What a story! This book was truly captivating. I loved that the chapters were from multiple perspectives both in terms of narrator and timeline. This book was so many things; beautiful, tragic, frustrating, joyful, tough, and also full of mystery, hope and intrigue. The recipes and authors notes at the end were an exceptionally nice touch.
Jodi Picoult is known for writing timely novels with controversial topics at the heart and crazy twists. Mad Honey, a collab with author Jennifer Finney Boylan, takes all of these points on board but adds in bees. It's a softer story in someways, although no less impactful as our main character Olivia, a beekeeper, faces the prospect of her son being blame for the murder of his lover.
Unfortunately I did think this tried to emotionally manipulate the reader for shock value. There's certain secrets that come out about Lily that didn't sit right with me, and were really implausible to believe could have been kept a secret from the police investigation. However, I do applaud both Jodi and Jennifer for really going there with the story and getting voices out for those in marginalised communities. Especially given the current climate, these stories need to be more commonly told. Just maybe more sensitively.
