With thanks to the author, publishers Kogan Page Ltd., and NetGalley for providing me with a DRC of this book exchange for my honest review.

I’ve been successfully working remotely using a hybrid approach for about 4 years now and was interested to read this book to see if any of it resonated with me, and happily lots of it did.

The book dispels some of the myths around the perceived negatives of remote working (less effective/productive way of working, harder to manage employees, barrier to innovation and collaboration etc.). In my experience, if those issues arise it is more likely to down to the individuals involved, rather than the question of remote versus office-based working.

The book covers some of the key skills required for remote working such as good time management, effective communication and collaboration, maintaining a good work life balance, and digital literacy. On the practical side, it also gives good advice on how to set up your home office for effective remote working, and also how to be productive at home in terms of time management and staying focused.

I was pleased to see a section on your personal well-being also, as being a remote or hybrid worker can present its own unique challenges in terms of feeling isolated, so it was good to see some guidance on how to maintain your mental health and a good work life balance.

Finally, as a manager, I also found the section on leading and managing teams remotely to be very informative, how to create the culture of responsibility within your team, and how to ensure good communication with them in order to maintain performance levels.

Overall, this is a very useful book for a remote worker in any industry to read.

This was a nice recap written up of all of the pros and cons of working from home, and how to adapt. It was mainly focused on how a team leader should deal with their team if they are hybrid etc, but it was nice to read as I have recently taken on a full time remote role.

I didn't overly learn anything new, but it was good to reflect the suggestions on my own situation with the tasks. Different to what I'd usually read and I did enjoy it opening my mind!

I have been working remotely for over two and a half years now, but I thought it would be worth checking out a book on how to work remotely, in case there were some handy tips on there.

For this reason I treated the book as something to skim through and scan read, rather than taking in all the nitty gritty.

There were quite a lot of tips on hybrid working, and I felt that this took up about 50% of the tome, but this didn't really apply to my current situation, so it wasn't useful to .me, but I can certainly see how it may be useful to many others.

One thing I particularly liked about the book was the mentioning of specific apps that help with remote working.

This is the book I have been waiting for since the start of the pandemic - a helpful guide full of tips about how to work remotely. Every aspect of homeworking is covered, from setting up your workstation to maintaining motivation, managing teams to chairing and participating in virtual meetings. It also covers managing your career when working remotely - ensuring your career prospects don't suffer from 'lack of visibility' and how to manage remote interviews and starting a new job remotely.

Working from home requires some different skills and different ways of working to those we use in an office based environment, as many of us found it overnight when the first national lockdown occurred. And now for a lot of people it's a change that's here to stay, whether for better or worse. I went from virtually living in my office, to working exclusively from home after my employer got rid of a lot of office space. Like all the thousands or millions of people in the same situation, I adapted through trial and error - but I'd always looked for some sort of business book that might provide tips and ideas for how to do things better. Usually in such a situation I'd look to colleagues for advice or inspiration, but as none of us had been in this position none of us had any practical experience of what did and didn't work.

Although this book might be a bit late for the pandemic, homeworking/hybrid working is here to stay and to do it well you do need to put some thought into it. So of all the many business books I've read over the years, this is one of the most useful. It is not too long, but comprehensive. It provides practical tips and hints and exercises, which prevents it being dull. Despite my 2.5 year crash course in remote working, I still learned things and got new ideas from this. Also a lot of the advice is sensible and useful for any work setting.

I'd highly recommend this to anyone who is new to working from home, considering a role in it, or still feels they aren't getting the best out of their job due to home/hybrid working.

Working remote is becoming more popular, not just due to COVID, it enables companies to attract and retain the better employees for the job. How to Work Remotely is a valuable resource to individuals new to working remote and those who have been working remote for years. There are exercises, pointers, and helpful guidance to improve the remote work experience.

Highly recommend this book. Suggest business leaders to grab multiple copies and pass this book on to their teams.

Thank you NetGalley and Kogan Page for the eARC.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of "How to Work Remotely" by Gemma Dale. I think it goes without saying that there has been a huge shift in our work culture the past 3 years as a result of COVID-19. More workplaces are going to fully-remote or a hybrid schedule so this book could not be more appropriate. I have been a hybrid worker for a few months now and thought this book would provide a good refresher on efficiency for working from home. The book is more of a practical guide for how to achieve a successful remote work experience, including tips for setting up a workspace, avoiding distraction, and communicating with your other remote colleagues. While I think a lot of what is contained in the book should be common sense for most remote workers, I could see it being very beneficial for those who are new to remote work or who maybe have gone off the rails because they've been doing it too long. Overall a good read from an author with lots of experience and knowledge in this field.
