This is the first book I have read by Beth Moran, but with its Christmassy premise I couldn’t resist giving it a try! I am very pleased that I did because this was an absolute cut above every other festive book I have read so far!
Our story centres around Bea Armstrong - a local tv weather presenter who loves her job and is dedicated to the programme’s viewers and community. She has recently broken up with her on/off boyfriend Adam and back home in Sherwood Forest with her family for Christmas. Which she is dreading - with difficulties at work, and a regimented festive schedule of family fun from her mum, Bea can’t wait for the holidays to be over. And when she arrives at Charis House - the home/alternative provision school run by her parents - she is even more dismayed to find her childhood frenemy Henry sitting round the dinner table.
But when a once-in-a-lifetime job opportunity comes up and Bea has to get herself to Scotland in the snow on Christmas Eve, she finds herself having to accept a long and potentially awkward journey with Henry to make her dreams come true.
This book basically has it all - it is absolutely stuffed full of festive loveliness and joy; brilliant characters that are complicated and interesting (from the celebrity nana Joy to ex-boyfriend Adam, who actually learnt something in the end and wasn’t just your usual deadbeat that the main character is better off without); a road trip full of adventures; and an absolutely bonkers residential job interview .. just to name a few highlights!
I struggled to put it down and raced through it in a few nights. My only criticism was my timing of reading it in the middle of a heatwave which kept confusing my senses when the characters were tucking into hot chocolates and mulled wine! It made me yearn for winter and Christmas time!
This was a cute, easy read but I'm not sure that it was really a festive/Christmas read in the way that I had imagined it would be given the title, description and cover.
I enjoyed the characters and enjoyed the busy plot which kept me interested throughout. There were a lot of flashbacks which I'm not generally a fan of though this is more down to personal opinion.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Boldwood Books and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Cute little love story, heartfelt perfect for someone who needs a feel good story.
This was so extremely cute!!! The moment Henry appeared I knew he had been in love with Bea forever. The pinning was amazing. Such a cute story and funny too!
Where can I get a Henry? He was the sweetest and the most supportive friend anyone can have. Amazing from start to finish.
An enjoyable book where our heroine gets embroiled in solving a family mystery and sorting out her job in a mix of family, friends, not friends, and of course with the clue being in the title, snowy weather. Romance building slowly too which gives the book a perfect ending.
This book felt like a warm mug of cocoa… sweet, comforting, and it gives you the warm fuzzies.
The blurb makes it sound like a love triangle story, and it largely is, but there are also themes of family, community, purpose, authenticity, and hope. Is there a lot going on? Yes. Does it reflect real life and work on the page? Also, yes.
The timeline is set around Christmas, but this book is a lovely one to pick up whenever you’re in the mood for a warm hug, an offbeat and endearing heroine, and a sweet love story.
Thank you to Boldwood Books via NetGalley for an advance reader copy!
I like a lot of the premise of this book, but there were a few things that bothered me.
Her family, especially her mom, grated me the wrong way. How could you not, after so many years, take an interest in your child's work that they clearly adore. Also, it felt like her family was gaslighting her when she wanted to go to her interview, maybe I just never had so many people in one room who acted so much like children but it felt unrealistic to have a housefull of supposedly good people act like this. If someone I loved and cared about had an amazing job opportunity I would most definitely be supportive. Nana was the only redeemable one: "We've lived our dreams. It's Bea's turn, now. Give her your blessing for this interview. Why should she stay here pretending not to be miserable, just because you lot are?" Damn right Nana!
Maybe it's irrational, but this scene really bothered me.. clearly! Not to mention the rest of the scenes where her family and her mom dismiss, and even outright insult her.
Another thing that bothered me was her disdain for Henry, like clearly they knew each other as kids, but doesn't Bea realize people change from who they are when they are young? She did. So why couldn't Henry? Honestly, her constant gripping about what she though Henry was thinking and how it was probably condescending because he is good at math, was stupid. He gave her no indication that he was a judgy person once he grew up, the only one judgy here was her.
Also, how did they have time for the food stop, detour, etc. when it said when they left they were 45 minutes behind schedule, or do I remember that wrong?
I loved Henry, he was kind, considerate and thoughtful. I hate that Adam was even a choice for so long, he's a dick in the beginning of the book and I don't understand the appeal. I will allow that Adam had a good character arc and finally grew up, but after like 12 years of her waiting. By the end I did feel bad for Adam, he just realized everything much too late.
I also really liked how good Bea was at her job, and not in that clinical detached way a lot of romance books use, where the main character needs to learn to have a life and be happy because she's too obsessed with work. Bea just genuinely loves what she does and that bleed through onto the pages. She smart and competent, and I love that in an mc.
When all of Bea's fans send her Nana get well gifts I teared up, that part was so heartwarming, giving this a lovely festive book vibe. Nana joy deserved all of the warm wishes, she was the star of the book imo.
As much as my complaints above were detailed, I did truly like the book. It was a cute, heartwarming story that is perfect for a light Christmas read (or anytime of the year really) and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for that!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
I enjoy a cute Christmas read. It was nothing too deep and heavy which was something that I like from my holiday books. As a former science teacher, I had already formed a connection to one of the main characters. Overall very good read!
This was a sweet little cozy read, however I don't know that it was very Holiday-y or Christmasey. I also felt like we had one too many story lines and overly descriptive moments to keep up with.
Let It Snow
I tried so hard to love this book. There are so many plot lines going on in this book and so much intricate detail over everything that I caught myself losing interest in the story. Bea comes off so rude all the time and dismissive. Henry is wrote as such a meek character that he is so hard to love. The character development for me was just so hard to jump into. I always hate reviews of this sort so it just pains me to write that this book was just not my jam. Thank you to Boldwood Books and Net Galley for the ARC to read. #NetGalley #LetItSnow
A surprisingly cute read about a local weather girl. At some points the plot was a bit convoluted and Bea was very…overly twee. One more cutesy outfit description and I was about to give up on the book. Could have done without the stories from the past about young Bea and Adam but they filled out the book, just not necessary.
Overall cozy enough to lounge about with.
I read until 36%, and then the absolutely bonkers job interview was stressing me out so I skipped ahead and read the last 15%, and….uhhhh. This does not have the happy Christmas romance vibes I was expecting. It feels mildly grinchy to DNF, but it was not at all working for me on several levels.
Things:
• There is so much going on with this plot. Plots. There’s like 7 major plot lines. It is way too much for any book. Please, just pick one or two! I don’t need a romance, a job drama, an Evil Woman, Family Drama, ??? things, romance, an ex, etc. It’s just so much.
• Everything was described. I don’t need to know the details about everything.
• This relied heavily on flashbacks for building the romance and story, which didn’t quite work for me. It still never built a connection between Henry and Bea. Obviously, there’s probably more in that middle part I skipped, but the love declaration coming at the very end (and how it was done) makes it clear there wasn’t much of a build anyway.
• The job plot line…the way it resolved. I don’t…see that as being super happy, given certain elements. She’s got [the Hallmark “realize the small town job is the best!” thing, except her job still has a rude, horrible, sexual harassment boss. I expect more dramatic happy cheesy resolutions in Christmas books, maybe that’s on me.
Characters:
• At first I really disliked Bea. Why is she so mean and dismissive? What this immediate defensiveness? And then I met her family. Damn girl, with family like that, who needs enemies? She’s doing great despite them. And should honestly tell them to get bent. (I hate families who are excused from being shit because they “mean well” - take your intentions and gtfo, also how can there be any good intentions in saying something like “your piddly little job is meaningless to me”) I mean, look at this quote!
> ‘Henry is an astrophysicist, Mum,’ I snapped. ‘I’m a professional meteorologist!’
> ‘I think I’ll count the opinion of someone who’s actually been outside above that of a local weathergirl, given the BBC’s usual level of accuracy, if you don’t mind.’
I mean, Bea’s still kind of a jerk sometimes, but wow I get it now.
• Henry is just sort of a person. I don’t know. He’s fine? Pining? Whatever. Bea calls him a robot all the time, but he seems normal and quiet and that just makes her look rude.
• I hate everyone else, and boy are there a lot of them.
Overall, this did not work for me. Is it me? I don’t think so. Maybe my expectations on the level of Christmas-Hallmark vibes were off. I skipped the middle, but the elements were not shaping up into anything at all, just introducing more and more plot lines, and reading the last 15% did not instill confidence I’d enjoy reading that middle half.
I do hope this works for other people at least!
I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my Kindle, in return for my honest review.
I do love a snowy, cosy read and this one turned out to be absolutely perfect!! Just what i needed to read…
This was a wonderful, snowy story - not so much Christmassy but definitely Wintery and the setting was amazing.
The characters were very realistic, especially the two main characters, Bea and Henry and I loved the enemies-to-lovers storyline!
It was a wonderful, feel good, snowy, romantic book and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it - especially because i read it in the hot weather and it was pure armchair escapism…….
Let It Snow is a quick, enemies-to-lovers romance set at Christmas. It has all the Christmassy feels you’d expect (warmth, family, laughter, and love) as well as all the family drama that goes along with this season. The characters are quirky, and you’ll love to hate Mrs. Armstrong.
Don’t forget to read the time hop clues! Queue the Christmas music and enjoy the Bridget Jones-esque drama in the Armstrong household!
Thank you to Beth Moran, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an opportunity to read this advance copy. I was under no obligation to provide a review.
Perfect feel good Christmas read, uplifting and totally enjoyable. Great characters well written. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy
I really enjoyed this story . Poor Bea off to home for Christmas for Christmas. While there she gets a call from a place in Scotland that she applied for a job and wanted to know if she was coming for the interview which is 2 days before Christmas. She told them yes but she hadn't gotten the email and it was snowing and she didn't have a way. She received a call from Adam that he wasn't coming to her parents. Henry who was her parents house offered to go with her. So off they went, spending 2 days in a cabin. She did realize Henry was the type of person he was and when her Adam comes, she just can' t decide on which one. No spoilers, Read the book.
THIS IS A GOOD READ>
Is it ever too early for Christmas stories? I don’t think so. And it’s especially not too early for awesome Christmas books like Let It Snow.
I really enjoyed this book which surprised me because I detest love triangles. Yes, this book does include a bit of a love triangle, but it isn’t really a major focus.
This book is a romance book, but there was so much more than just the romance. I felt that it was more about Bea’s personal growth which in turn, affected her romance.
There were so many fun moments in this book, even laugh out loud moments which doesn’t often happen for me. So many perculiar characters that just made this book so much more interesting.
I enjoyed the flashbacks in this book. It was a great way to get to know the characters better.
One trigger warning/content warning I will give is that although this book does not contain any explicit scenes, there is one scene where a teenage boy does pressure and attempts to emotionally manipulate his girlfriend into having sex. She is able to stand up to him and stick to what she wants.
This was a great book that I am sure you will enjoy. I look forward to reading more from Beth Moran.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Bea who is a weather girl is excited when she applies for a job she has wanted. Henry who has been friends with her family for years offers to drive her for her interviews. While together, she finds she grows to like him. Thus was a heart warming Christmas book.
This is my second Christmas in July book this year and it is also my second read by Beth Moran. I really enjoyed Just The Way You Are when I read it back in January. And just like that one, Let it Snow gave me all the feels. A little bit humourous, a little bit romantic, and a whole lot of fun. This enemies to romance hit the spot for me. The flashback paragraphs were some of my favourite parts as I loved getting to know Adam and Henry. I did not like Adam one bit, he was very selfish and self-centered.
The other characters were so wonderful, I want to be part of the Armstrong family. As much as Bea complained about them, you could tell she really loved them at heart. The mystery element of Nana Joy's past (who's your daddy?) was intriguing, to say the least, and the perfect touch of a little something extra. The Baxter house section during the interviews had me laughing out loud, what a hoot, and there were many great characters (or should I say caricatures?) there as well...Many of whom I loved to hate. I can't finish this review without mentioning the cover, it is adorable and I will definitely be picking up a physical copy for that alone.
If you enjoy cute, quirky books that are more than just a romance novel, especially ones with a Christmas theme, I highly recommend you pick this one up.
really sweet Christmas story, read it in one day, really enjoyed the characters and the setting, you can never go wrong with a Christmas story,
