Firstly I’d like to say thank you to NetGalley and Hutchinson Heinemann for allowing me to read this ARC.

Onto the book…

In theory and after reading the synopsis of Pineapple Street, I was expecting an exciting portrayal of how the richest families live in New York’s High Society.

But it just fell a little flat for me personally, but I can see how many people would enjoy this book. For me it lacked excitement, I didn’t feel like I wanted to pick the book up at any spare moment to find out what happens next. I was waiting and waiting for something to just happen, and nothing did.

I wanted to like the characters but they were just so difficult and snobby, with no depth and the character development lacked for me too.
I mean some of the things the characters said made me cringe and feel uncomfortable.
Maybe that’s what the author intended but I didn’t feel like it added anything to the story.
I was hoping that the characters would redeem themselves and turn their old fashion views around but I was left disappointed that they didn’t.

Overall the idea of the story in a whole was promising but it didn’t feel very well executed to me personally. A shame as I was excited to read it. The cover is beautiful though, probably my favourite thing about the book

I didn't know how much I needed this book until I started reading it.
From the very first line I was pulled in to the world of the Stockton's and I found myself completely immersed in it. This is the perfect book if you're looking for escapism.

“The more Sasha thought about it, the angrier she felt. She was stuck in a lose-lose situation, a member of a family in which she had no voice, she had no vote, where doors were closed and envelopes remained sealed and money was a string that tied them all together and kept them bound and gagged.”

Pineapple Street follows three women in an old Brooklyn Heights clan: one who was born with money, one who married into it, and one who wants to give it all away.
Shot through with the indulgent pleasures of life among New York's one-percenters, Pineapple Street is about the peculiar unknowability of someone else's family, the miles between the haves and have-nots, and the insanity of first love.

The Stocktons have a somewhat awkward relationship with money. It puts them in a different world which is not so much a class divide as it is a wealth divide. Trapped in this life of privilege, the Stockton girls – Darley and Georgiana – do not consider Sasha one of their own because of her simpler upbringing. Having grown up with a sizeable trust fund, they see her as a gold digger.

They are all living in their little bubbles, far removed from reality. And when the bubble pops, they are forced to look themselves in the mirror only to find a stranger looking back at them.

The book has an acquired taste despite the wit and humour because you can’t relate to their rich people problems. Even so, it talks about upbringing, relationships, identity and acceptance.

A whole lot of family drama and a complicated set of characters makes this an entertaining social commentary.
Rating 3.5

A light easy read, about immense wealth and class, and prople crossing the divide. There's nothing new to be learnt but there are are some sharply drawn observations delivered with wit and knowing that encouraged this reader to continue to the end.
Thank you to netgalley and Random House for an advance copy of this book

If you're in a reading slump or simply want some escapism then this IS the book for you ! If Real Housewives is your TV guilty pleasure then this is reading guilty pleasure. New York setting, family drama, characters you love to hate , it ticks all the boxes. It's easy reading without being silly and enough drama to have you hooked . This is screaming TV adaptation and it may even be one that works even better on screen , i loved it and want more from Pineapple Street !

Such an enjoyable read! Perfect escapism. I grew to love all the characters, even the stiff, snobby Tilda. The pace is sedate, but this gives you time to enjoy the characters. I loved the multi-character narrative too.

What a fantastic book, I really really enjoyed this and would not fail to recommend this to anyone and everyone,
I really liked Cord and his family - they are fantastically rich beyond all imaginings and this was a great read. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers’ for allowing me to read this before publication.

I absolutely loved this novel, my favourite thing I've read so far this year. Acutely observed social comedy and incredibly well-rounded characters - many of them behave in unlikeable ways at various points but they are all convincing as real human beings and I loved them all as a result. I could have spent a lot longer in this world (and I loved the epilogue as a result, the ending is delicious but I really wanted more) and I had to consciously slow myself down whilst reading so as not to get through it too quickly. Highly recommended and thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the ARC.

The Stockton family from Brooklyn is the focus of this book. The family are rich beyond most people’s imaginings. It’s a family saga, where not a lot happens, and the narrative is very slow. It failed to hold my interest, and I could not relate to the shallow, materialistic lifestyle of the family.
Sadly not for me, this one, and a DNF.
My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance copy of this book.

Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson.
Publication Date: April 13th.

Another much hyped 2023 release, Pineapple Street in Brooklyn Heights is one of New York City's most desirable residential streets and home to the Stockton family. Old money, real estate money, family money, this family is wealthy and the novel tells the story of three of the women. Darley the oldest daughter who gave up her career in finance after the birth of her second child and her inheritance when she married without a prenup. Sasha who recently married into the Stockton family and is known as the Gold Digger by her new sister in laws despite being relatively down to earth and Georgiana the baby of the family who works in the charity sector, plays tennis and falls in love with someone she shouldn't.

Having access to wealth and security doesn't always equate with satisfaction and contentment with life and the novel follows these women through a somewhat tumultuous time in their lives.

While I was expecting a more lavish and ostentatious Sucession level of living when reading about a family in the 1% the author does well to develop these characters to an extent that I had some sympathy for them and wanted to know what happened to them. This is very much a character driven book and not a huge amount happens but it held my attention and was a bit of an escapist read. Wealth, marriage, families and tablescaping an entertaining read that was well written for the most part. The most entertaining and intriguing character is Tilda , the family matriarch and she delivers most of the humour in the novel- including asking her new middle class, educated and successful daughter in law what it was like to grow up poor over dinner conversation at a family meal. I would have liked it if the book focused as much on Tilda as it did the other female characters.

I liked this, a good beach read type of book and I am sure it will be popular this Summer. Entertaining but I felt it wrapped up a bit too sweetly , although life probably does for the very wealthy.

What is it about the lives of very rich Americans that so fascinates us? This is a very readable, and entertaining, novel that breaks no particularly new ground but is thoroughly entertaining nevertheless.

A book about a wealthy family and the problems the not so wealthy have when they marry into one. It follows three women as they go about navigating their lives and all the dilemmas that come with it, in and around Pineapple Street. An easy read but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Can money bring you happiness? Only time will tell and this book is all about money! Fantastic read!

The book covers the interesting topic of wealth and being born into a family with money. It is based around the Stockton family, a wealthy family in Brookland Heights and reading the family dynamic was fun.

It is written from the perspective of 3 women - the 2 daughters in the Stockton family and the daughter in law.

The elder daughter, Darley, is married with two young children. She gave up her job to look after the children and also gave up her family money, showing how she manages with these changes.
The younger daughter, Georgiana aged 26, is finding her feet in the world and falls in love. There is a twist in this story.
The daughter in law, Sacha, was my favourite character and was married to Colt. It follows her trying to fit into the family when her background and upbringing were very different.

I would recommend this book as it was an enjoyable, fun and absorbing book that I read quickly.

I was lucky enough to get ARC in exchange for an honest review, thanks netgalley and the publisher.

Pineapple Street is one of New York City's most desirable addresses. It is also the home of the Stockton family .
This is the story of two daughters and a daughter in law but can money buy them the happiness they crave?

I absolutely loved this novel and flew through it. It tells the story of three women - the first is Sasha, who has married into an extremely wealthy, upper class NY family, and the other two are her sister-in-laws, Darnley and Georgiana. Each woman’s story within the Stockton family explores love, power and wealth. The characterisation is brilliant – often with these types of novels I find myself waiting to get back to one character in particular, but I was equally hooked on character and perspective. I think this would be great TV show or movie. I’ll definitely be recommending this and reading anything else Jenny writes in the future.
