Good read. Great characters, enjoyed the setting, lots of side stories weaved into it and it flowed really well. A good read for a rubbish day. Will make you feel better!
I love a good Christmas romance, and this fit the bill.
There is a particular formula for romance novels and this followed the 'rules'.
Haf meets Christopher at a party, and whilst they get on there is no romantic spark. However, his friend Laurel spots them and gets the wrong end of the stick and believes them to be a couple.
This leads to Haf, pretending to be his girlfriend and spending Christmas with his family. Wherever Haf is, there is a wake of chaos which includes falling in love with Christopher's sister. Whilst the scenes were unbelievable, and the characters cliched this is what you expect from a rom-com Christmas book.
I thought this was a fun read, think gay Bridget Jones.
What a funny and heart warming read to get you into the Christmas spirit!
The characters were wonderful - from Haf with her big personality and naughty sense of humour, to Ambrose with their down to earth teasing and wholesome friendship. Christopher and Kit and all of the Oxlea crowd finished off the set with some endearing moments as well.
The settings were well written and I found myself longing for Christmas fetes, with mulled wine and Christmas trees.
This book was big hit with me, and I feel thoroughly ready for Christmas, albeit a far less chaotic one than that in the book!
I loved this very different kind of Christmas romance story. Lots of twists and turns, and great character stories. Rich parents and their offspring, who seem to behave like a normal family, people having jobs that are expected of them, rather than what they would love to do, and a make believe romance that turns into the real thing, but not between our lead players.
This is the first LGBT+ romance book that I have ever read, and it will not be the last.
This was a hilarious story from beginning to end. I kept waiting for the next mad idea..Some great characters and the author created a wonderful atmosphere. I really felt part of the story and the conclusion was the icing on the cake.
I found this book a bit difficult to get into and it didn't really hold my interest. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
Oh my christmas God this was the cutest, most chaotically perfect rom-com i've ever read. I don't think there's a single character I didn't root for (yes, that includes the man on the train, iykyk) and it was all just so...fun?
The fake-dating shenanigans were the perfect balance of well-meaning and disastrous and the romances (of which there are several!) were pitch perfect.
You need this book in your life. It's like reading a hug!
Lovely storyline & characters, thoroughly enjoyed, was definitely unputdownable, read in an afternoon
This is an inclusive, highly entertaining, and festive rom com. It made me smile, enjoy the atmosphere, root for the characters, and have a lot of fun.
The characters are well plotted and likeable, the story is well plotted and i like the storytelling.
A very entertaining and compelling novel, highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Thanks to netgalley and publishers for arc of this book
A strange start to the book wasn’t sure were it was going but stick with it follows a girl called Haf yes strange name but it’s Welsh you see so it’s ok she meets a guy called Christopher at a party her housemate Ambrose drags her to then abandons her at. Anyway this very lovely man and Haf have a lovely evening discussing food and eating it whilst drinking then stumble back to her flat for coffee and fall asleep.
Ultimately Haf agrees to be Christopher’s fake girlfriend for Christmas as his parents giving him grief about it and she has been dumped by her parents who have gone abroad
What she doesn’t realise is she is going to fall in love with the most beautiful woman she has ever met as she gets on the train with Christopher but has no idea where woman has gone? She was in book store omg where is she ?
Nothing Haf can do but go with Christopher and forget about her, until she meets his parents and his sister Kit. The most beautiful woman ever!! Omg how is she going to do this? There follows a hilarious story of how one woman can fall , slide , and collide with a whole village and reindeer in an attempt not to be found out
A very funny book with very touching heart warming moments
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Haf isn’t falling in love Christopher, he’s the person she’s currently pretending to be in a relationship with, but she is with his sister kit. The story has a Christmas setting, has fun, funny moments and will put a smile on your face.
The characters were likeable. Both Haf and Kit had chemistry, right from when they first met in a bookshop, and you wanted them to have a happy ending. The friendship between Christopher and Haf was lovely to see, both different from each other but understand each other too.
I recommend this book.
This book wasn’t for me. A slightly predictable book but a bit confusing at times with the use of pronouns. A few too many themes. Thanks to the author and your publisher. Also thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy.
An enjoyable, fun heartwarming novel set against the backdrop of Christmas. They say the path of true love never runs smooth and pretending to be someone’s girlfriend is certainly going to cause problems. A book that will draw you in and keep you enthralled to the very end. Thank you to NetGalley, Hodder & Stoughton and the author for the chance to review.
I really liked some of this book, but other aspects, such as the use of the pronoun ‘they’ for Ambrose, made it difficult to read. To have Haf as bisexual seemed like overkill - throwing too many sexual vibes into one book. Other readers may well enjoy it more than I did.
This book was so different to what I expected it to be but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Ambrose is like a big brother to Haf, always there to support but happy to wind her up with some laugh out loud moments. Rather than spend Christmas alone Haf agrees to be Christopher’s fake girlfriend - meeting his parents however makes Haf nervous and there are a few moments when her accident prone self appears.
I loved how Lauren made Haf a beautiful dress, also loved the gingerbread house made by Christopher and what a laugh the baby goat incident was. All in all a really good read. I do hope there is to be a sequel as there seems so much more fun to be had with these fantastic characters.
This book exudes chaotic bisexual energy and I am 100% here for it. While I always find these scenarios mildly implausible, I do love that this all comes from a place of earnest support and friendship, just without really thinking things through.
I adore all the characters (I feel Ambrose and Laurel probably get the most of my love but they are all lovely) and especially love the relationships between Haf and Christopher, and Haf and Ambrose.
I really want a Christopher sequel book now. And maybe Laurel and Ambrose (together?????? I ship it).
Also bonus points to Hux for managing to get both Bake Off AND Sewing Bee vibes in one book 😂💙😂
I definitely recommend this for a super cute sapphic romance, several great friendships, chaotic reindeer and geese, chaotic bisexuals, and general Christmas joy. 4 stars.
Haf is facing a lonely Christmas when her planes to spend it with her parents are scuppered by them booking a holiday to Madeira. Haf had totally forgotten and made no alternative arrangements. A chance meeting at a Christmas party ends with her kissing Christopher and agreeing to be his pretend girlfriend for a holiday at his parents. Matter take a decidedly off piste turn when Haf meets Christopher's sister, Kit and falls head over heels in love. What follows are a series of hilarious event as Haf struggles with an increasingly chaotic situation.
The plot is a straightforward romance but what makes this book a complete delight is the entertaining writing. There are also the wonderful characters who are diverse and very inclusive. Their interactions are very funny but also touching. Certain situations are really laugh out loud.
If you are looking for a light and charming read I would recommend this novel very highly.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. .
A fun story with lots going on keeping you hooked in to every page. Really enjoyable and easy to read.
Really sweet take on the fake relationship trope. It'll be the perfect read for the Christmas holidays, but now I had such a charming time reading it. All of the characters are fun and light but well defined. I was rooting for everyone's happy ending and throughly enjoyed the journey.
I really enjoyed this story. I loved the characters who were really likeable. I really enjoyed reading how they supported each other. It was funny and serious at times and beautifully written. I was delighted it all worked out right in the end.
