Judith Keim does it again! As I started getting into this book, it struck me that digging into a book by Judith Keim is kind of like watching a Hallmark Christmas movie- you kind of know what you are going to get - a little romance, some quirky characters, nothing too deep, and a pure escape. I think that is why I like her books, and this one is no different!
3 cousins on an extended trip to Florida to help run their grandmother’s hotel, rediscover themselves, and find their futures in the process. Each book centers around one cousin, and this is the first in that series. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
I received a copy of this book through NetGalley, all opinions are my own.
Ellie and 4 of her friends want more great grandchildren and they hatch a plot to bring them to Sanderling Cove to fall in love. What would be better than friendship except mutual grandchildren. this is book 1 in the Sanderling Cove Inn series and it's a pretty good start introducing the characters that will appear throughout the series. The Grandmothers add humor and charm to the romances and there is a lot of potential here. The three cousins don't stand a chance.
Another best seller by the brilliant Judith Keim. A fun to read story of summer friends brought back together by their well meaning grandmothers. Match making at its best with fabulous characters. A must read when getaway from real life is needed. Loved this book.
Charlotte Bradford, Olivia Winters, and Brooke Weatherby are all at a point in their lives where they have the time to do as she asks. For Charlotte, it’s an excuse to leave her marketing career and life in New York City. After realizing her partner was never going to step up and do her share of work, Livy has just sold her bakery store in Virginia. Brooke is more than eager to leave her job as an accountant in upstate New York and, more importantly, escape the lonely life of keeping an eye on her mother who suffers from fibromyalgia and depression.
When Shane Ensley is sailing with Charlotte and another “cove kid”, Eric Simon, the boom knocks him into the water unconscious. When Charlotte rescues him, it changes everything for them. And starts the summer exactly as the grandmothers had hoped.
Cute summer beach story of grandmothers interfering and encouraging relationships between their grandchildren. I loved the grandmas! Cute and lighthearted and perfect for a Summer beach read, or even a middle of Winter, wish I was a snowbird read!
Great book and beginning to a new series! I enjoy the settings of Ms. Keim’s book and how she weaves pieces of her previous stories into the new. I enjoyed how family’s coming together each with different backgrounds can work together to move forward with each of their lives. Their love and influence of their grandmother shows how family values rise above life’s problems. I anxiously await the next book!
3 Grandchildren are invited to a home that they used to love spending time at in the summer. They are all grown up and have careers and lives that they are not happy with. Granny and her husband Johnny want to travel so have asked the girls to take over the hotel and business while they are gone. One is a baker, one is an accountant and one is a marketing guru.
The story continues with what each woman will come up with to make the Inn better and which one of the long lost friends they may fall for over the summer and bring their lives into focus.
What else does the grandma have in store for them.
Great book but then Judith always writes the best books. They entertain, cause us to consider where we are in our lives and what we can do to make them better and how can we fulfill our destination in life.
When Charlotte Olivia and Brooke get a call from the grandma to come to Sandra Lynn Cove for the summer it’s just a lucky break that they’re already for a little vacation. Olivia just sold her bakery to a competitor, Brooke just broke up with her overbearing boyfriend and Charlotte no longer likes who she is well in New York City. When each girl arrives there surprised to learn the other two are either coming or already there. There even more surprise when they learn other kids from their days at the cove are going to be there and they’re having a bonfire later that night. The girls know that grand is up to something but what is it? When Austin asked Brooke at the party why is her grandma selling the resort Brooke is shocked and doesn’t know what to say and at then when she tells her cousins later that night they decide to talk to their grand about it. Had the same party Charlotte reconnected with Shane he is super model good luxe and a such a nice guy and she thinks if she wouldn’t be taking a break and just letting things play out maybe she would make a play for him but then while helping Eric bring his sailboat from Miami Shane has an accident and falls unconscious in the water and that changes everything for Charlotte. This book was so good and I can’t wait to read the second book with Brooke in little sky. If it’s even close to as good as this one it’s going to be excellent. Although everything in the book seems to be very copacetic the writing is so good it’s not something you roll your eyes at or mind in the lease because this is a great book and one I highly recommend. Not all of the kids are taking a break or have money to spare but live and work nearby and essentially I think with this books about is people in their late 20s and early 30s who were still single and just want to get back to the place they love and the only place they truly felt like their authentic south and that is Sandra Lynn Cove. I received this book from net galley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
This is a favorite author of mine . I enjoy her books of family, relationships and picturesque seaside settings. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinon is my own.
This is a unique setting of Sanderling Cove at a lovely family owned Inn. Ellie Weatherby four other grandmothers are all living at Sanderling Cove. They invite their grandchildren to spend the summer at the cove, hoping to encourage romance between them and for them to take over the management of the Inn. I love that the author features savvy smart seniors in this book as the main charcters. Once the grandchildren arrive they soon find together they are quite different personalities but still family who love one another. As younger generations and older collide and find their way the story unfolds to a beautiful story of the importance of family .
I loved this book and read it cover to cover. Well done to the author.
Sunderland Cove and the five families that live, the five Grandmother's decide they want all the grands to come visit this summer. Book 1 in the series centers on Ellie and her three granddaughters. She invites all three to spend the summer visiting and helping out at the Sunderland Cove Inn. Ellie wants to take a trip to Europe with her scenes. husband( long time companion) The girls are all able to get away for the summer and come to help out. Of course the grandmother of the cove have ideas too and alot of matchmaking attempts going on behind the scenes. All of Judith Keim's books are great and this was no exception. Can't wait for book 2. Thank you to Net Galley, Judith Keim and the publishers to let me read this Advanced reader edition in exchange for my honest opinion
Waves of Hope is my 41st book of the year. It definitely was not one of my favorite books, as it was very slow and was really predictable. I would consider it an easy “beach read.” It was nice and relaxing to read but did not have the substance I usually look for in my favorite novels. Yes, there was a bit of conflict, but the conflict was not large enough to make me that interested in this novel. It also did not elicit much emotion in me, since it was so predictable. If asked if I would read another one of Judith Keim’s novels, I would say “maybe.” In some ways, it was a treat to read but boring at other times. I am giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the Wild Quail Publishing LLC (publisher) for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. -Chelsea K. Reviewer
Waves of Hope is the first book in Judith Keim’s Sanderling Cove Inn series. Sanderling Cove is a lovely anomaly on the Gulf coast of Florida north of Tampa. The Cove was settled by five families many years ago. With children and grandchildren grown, the grandmothers have put their heads together to revitalize their families with a play to orchestrate the perfect scenario to bring the grown grandchildren back together for a special summer to revisit the many summers the kids spent with their grandmothers as teens and younger. All are aching to hold their great grandbabies and are hoping to nudge fate to allow things to happen.
Eleanor “Ellie” Southerby was widowed in her thirties and left with her husband’s debts. In order to finish raising her own three daughters, Ellie converted the big house to a bed and breakfast and was eventually able to build a separate home and extend the B&B to 36 rooms. During these years she became special friends with John Rizzo who became the chef in residence. But now Ellie, and John, need a break from the Inn and the Inn needs to be revitalized with young ideas and spirit.
To do this, Ellie invites her three granddaughters Charlotte, Olivia, and Brooke, each the child of one of her daughters, to come for the summer. Each young woman is at a crossroads of her own and needs the break and, perhaps, a fresh start. But can they be convinced to not only refresh the Inn but also manage it in Ellie and John’s absence? And will the matchmaking endeavors of the Grandmothers’ succeed?
This is a lovely story that unpacks so many issues. The plentiful characters, for which there is a who’s who listing of them before the Prologue, are well drawn, some the reader will adore, some not so much. The setting is perfectly described, and the intricate dance of storylines is well plotted and sensibly told. I very much enjoyed this book and I do look forward to the stories to come.
this is the first in a series, grandmothers try their hand at setting up their grandchildren to date each other. looking forward to the next book
Waves of Hope by Judith Keim was a very light, easy read. The characters were well developed and well liked. They weren't believable, but that was ok. The three main characters were cousins and each chapter alternated between them. This book gave you closure to only one of the three cousins leaving room for several sequels that I will definitely read. I will be recommending this book. Thank you NetGalley for my ARC.
Ahhh, I love these grandmothers!! What an awesome read. It started off a little slow for me in the beginning and I wasn't sure if I would get into it but I was pleasantly surprised as character progression built. I really enjoy how Judith is focusing on one character in the story but also shares what is going on with the others. I really like the alternating view points in the story as the reader goes through each chapter. I am very excited to continue this series. I liked the excerpt at the end for Book 2 and am now anticipating January 2023 release. Excellent feel good read with real life situations for relate ability. I love the way all the characters link and more and more of their storyline comes into play as the story progressed.
Sanderling Cove has been special to Ellie’s granddaughters, and when she invites them to spend a summer there they all jump at the chance. All three are at a crossroads in their lives. Ms Keim does an excellent job of describing indoor and outdoor locations; she makes me want to step into the pages of her book and be in that location. The characters are equally well described and can easily become your friends. The storyline was enlightening and was good from the very beginning right up to the end of the book. I am looking forward to the next two books in this series. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.
Grandma Ellie invites her three granddaughters to Sanderling Cove Inn for the summer. The cousins are thrilled to reunite, but soon learn Grandma is matchmaking and thinking of selling the inn. Three other grandmothers have their grandchildren in town for a big reunion among the kids who grew up together. This story is more Charlotte’s. The next books in the series will feature Brooke and Olivia.
It's a nice story, and who doesn’t love the beach, but the slow pace did drag a bit for me.
Disclaimer: I received an advanced copy of Waves of Hope ebook from NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
Waves of Hope is my second Judith Keim novel and the first in a brand new series!
Sanderling Cove is a wonderful summer vacation spot that several families come together every year to share their childhood and memories. Years later when the cousins of Sanderling Cove have all grown up Ellie Weatherby one of the grandmothers and her co-conspirators hatch a plan to bring the “single” grandchildren back together on the island for a summer of romance.
Ellie’s three granddaughters Charlotte, Brooke and Olivia agree to spend the summer helping to run the family inn so Ellie and her husband John can take a much needed vacation. Using the time to organize some renovations and refreshing of the inn, they also rekindle their friendships with the other grandchildren of the Cove. Much to the delight of the other grandmothers, romance “could” be in the air!
I enjoyed this book quite a bit and am looking forward to the other instalments of the series. At first, there is a lot of characters, families and connections to figure out. It was almost too much at first…..five families with multiple children and grandchildren. Once I sorted them out though, I was really invested in some of the relationships and storylines.
This is a fantastic summer read to dive into and a rating of 4 stars for me. Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to experience the story before it’s scheduled publication.

Five grandmothers who live at Sanderling Cove and have grandchildren living in other parts of Florida and beyond plot to reunite the clan to return to the place where all had played together during the summers when they were growing up. Thus begins a new series for author Judith Keim. Grandma Ellie, who owns the Sanderling Cove Inn, invites her three grand-daughters to visit for the summer. The three cousins are delighted to escape their current circumstances of work and personal situations to respond to the thought of spending the summer with each other and helping their grandmother with the inn. Charlotte, Olivia, and Brooke bring their unique skills: marketing, culinary, and accounting, which they will put to work when Grandma asks them to take over the running of the Inn, including revamping the Inn, while she and her new husband go on an extended honeymoon to Europe.
Plenty of fun activities follow when other grandchildren of the Sanderling Cove arrive and continue the good times from the past. One of the most interesting developments is the relationship between Charlotte and Shane that develops after a boat incident. So much of this book reflects the affection that all have for the friends and family in the Sanderling Cove neighborhood. It’s a wonderful place to visit when you know you will be welcome at the table of any of the grandmothers and their bountiful tables. It is just an indication of the good reads ahead with future books in this series.
A treasure to read this story as it reflects the caring nature of the grandmothers and their desire to have their grandchildren succeed with their talents and be good stewards to others. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Thanks to the author, Net Galley, and Wild Quail Publishing LLC for an ARC of this book; this is my honest review.
I will leave a review on Amazon and B&N on Aug 2nd.
This was an amazing start to a new series, and I can't wait for the next book in the series. I loved the concept of the small close-knit community of Sanderling Cove. As the younger generation comes together for the summer, what interesting match ups may happen. This makes for a great beach year, or actually for a read anytime of the year. I definitely would recommend this book to others.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Wild Quail Publishing LLC. This is my own personal opinion of the book of which I am under no obligation to leave a favorable one.
