I was sent this book by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, full review can be found on Amazon and Goodreads!
Great book, enjoyed all of the books in this series and would happily read more by this author!!
I love this Dragons series, as do my children and this is such a lovely ending and accompaniment to the series. Part fact file, part diary and information from the main characters point of view, it also lets readers now what has happened to the dragons and the superhero squad since the final book. Gorgeous illustrations too. I docthink you need to have read the series first before you read this.
The Ultimate Guide to Growing Dragons is not so much an adventure story, more of an explanation of how to put together an instruction manual on growing and caring for dragons, when your friends and fellow contributors to the book are all in different parts of the world. I would describe The Ultimate Guide to Growing Dragons as a creative non-fiction book about researching and looking after dragons.
Written in first person the voice is pitched perfectly for the 7+ age range. Thomas talks us through where and how he discovered his incredible knowledge about dragons with reference to previous books in the series and snippets of his chats with his friends around the world. He soon realises there is so much more to learn. There are some brilliant descriptions of dragons and their unique differences, enhanced by Sara Oglivie’s gorgeous black and white illustrations.
This book is full of fun, zany facts about dragons guaranteed to make you smile and wish you could find your own dragon. It is ideal for reluctant readers as it is easy to dip in and out of as you can look up the different kinds of dragons and devour the fascinating facts. The dragons will capture your heart and your imagination.
I have enjoyed the The Boy Who Grew Dragons series enormously, so I was excited to get my hands on a copy of The Ultimate Guide to Growing Dragons.
This time around the superhero squad are rather scattered about the globe, and are constructing a guide to the art of growing dragons. It was great to spend more time with this group of friends - both human and dragon. Tomas has come a long way since the first book.
The story was full of funny moments, and a few new discoveries about the dragons. I loved how the superhero squad all worked together to solve the problems.
The illustrations by Sara Ogilvie are brilliant! They add so much to the story and really bring it to life.
In conclusion, this book was an absolute joy to read. It’s engaging, appealing, and so much fun! I recommend it for anyone who loves dragons.
I wasn’t given a copy of this book, my opinions are my own.
