Well this was a cute story that got me hooked from the start. Part of it made me sad and reflect on whether life could continue if one lost their life partner/best friend.
It also features a bookshop hahaha and a wonderful group that is the protagonist's pillars of strength.
Fun read to kick off one of my favourite times of the year...
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you @netgalley

Cozy read. I love a romance with a bookshop setting. A little angst, a little challenging, and quite cute. Great read for the holiday season.
A very cute Christmas romance book, loved the characters and the romance was believable! Also, the setting was spot on! The audiobook was really good
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I could not get into this audiobook as it did not hold my attention for any length of time.
This book was just ok. There was very little romance and it was lacking excitement. The tone of the book was flat all the way through. It wasn't my cuppa tea!
This book is really perfect for book lovers. It´s cozy and cute but also funny. I really loved the friendships and the romance. Everyone had their own problems to solve and they didn´t magicly dissapear because they fell in love which I really liked.
Books AND Christmas!? yes please!
A snowstorm. A stranger. A spark. It should be the perfect start to the perfect love story.
Megan is struggling to get her life back on track after the death of her husband Joe. She has worked at her parents bookstore in York, as she tries to grieve the loss of her husband. I'm a fan of romance and women's fiction, and especially when there are heartfelt, emotional storylines such as grief that show depths to the character.
I enjoyed the audiobook as well, and found the narrator to be good fit for the book.
*many thanks to Saga Egmont Audio and netgalley for the gifted copy for review
i find romance really hit or miss. if it’s too cringy or ridiculous then i’m really not interested. this was cute.
the main character, Megan, is struggling to get her life back together after the death of her husband, Joe. for the last three years she’s lived and worked at her fathers parents bookshop in York. grieving her loss, until one day Xander Stone comes along.
this book deals with a lot of grief, i actually hadn’t realised how much grief was within this. if you have trouble with that sort of stuff, it’s possibly a good idea to skip this book. i thought it was a pretty real depiction of how grief can make us stop everything and become stuck within our losses.
the love story itself was classic romance, there is a only one bed trope and a little grumpy x sunshine, so if you’re into that definitely give this a try. i also liked that because Megan is a bookshop worker, it’s set in a bookshop a lot of the time and the characters have a bookclub and talk books and tropes.
i found a lot of the characters fine, maybe a little forgotten (especially Colin), i think my favourite was probably Xander (because i’m a little like him i guess)
also, i liked the communication within this book, while Xander doesn’t always think before he reacts. i like that most of the time he and Megan can discuss anything and the miscommunication trope is pretty nonexistent.
overall, a pretty good little christmas romance (that also features a cute dog)
Slow burn…bookshop…Christmas…romance…. A sausage dog! A great audiobook for the holiday season.
This is a light, fun read that takes place in an English bookshop over Christmas. It is a predictable romance but well-written with fun characters and a beautiful setting.
I personally feel if I wasn’t listening to the audiobook, I would have been quite bored, but it’s a perfect lighthearted story for the holidays!
This is a book I should have read physically. I loved the story and it's exactly what I want in a festive romance but I just couldn't get past the narrator's voicing of the male love interest at all and while the voicing and accents of the female characters was thoroughly enjoyable and not distracting at all, I just couldn't move past the choices made for Xander's voicing. Had to stop listening.
Megan lost her husband three years ago. She comes back to her family's bookstore to get back on her feet. They’re surrounded by her family and friends she learns how to have a life again.
Megan and Xander are brilliant characters who fit together so well, they both have their secrets but they are both strong. Xander is a grumpy hero who grows on you as you read, he has a tough outside, but a complete softie inside.
Megan is a sweet heroine who isn’t ditzy or klutzy, she’s creative and has so many ideas for her family bookshop that she wants to do all she can to save it.
I love all the other characters and the other ladies in the book club. They are well-meaning and loveable best friends, who might get a tad too interfering but only want what’s best for Megan and Xander.
I’m a sucker for a book related to books – authors, bookstores, books, and book clubs … And this has it all. It’s also perfect for this time of year, Christmas.
And of course A ‘Happily Ever After’!

I very much enjoyed this story and I wish this book could get more recognition because I know many would love it. It has Christmas in a bookshop kind of magic. Like hello!! The narration was fantastic and just overall a warm hug for my heart.
The problem…it is a lot like Better Than Fiction which I only read a month ago so maybe the similar books nearly back to back wasn’t the best but I didn’t mind! Oh and the male MC was a hot head and as a proud drama queen there is no room in my life for a quick-to-react/firecracker man 😂
I love stories that have book clubs in them. This one happened to be a book club that loves romance. I just loved it. I enjoy a good slope burn romance., add in the one bed trope and i was very happy. Megan lost her husband three years ago. She comes back to her family's bookstore to get back on her feet. There surrounded by her family and friends she learns how to have a life again. The narration was great. If you love holiday romances, you should check this one out. Thank you to NetGalley and Saga Edmont Audio for the audio arc in exchange for my honest review.
*Bookstore owner meets cranky author
*Secret identity
*Fun characters
*A bit of humor
*Favorite bench
*Both lost loved ones to Leukemia
*Audiobook=excellent-voices for each character-loved accent
Thank you to NetGalley and Saga Egmont Audio for the Audiobook in exchange for my honest review!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Saga Egmont Audio for my copy of A Bookshop Christmas by Rachel Burton Narrated by Laura Brydon in exchange for an honest review. It published September 1, 2022.
First off, I have to say, the narration of this book was really well-done, I would listen to anything Laura Brydon reads!
This book was just really cute, and really sweet. I loved that although it took place during Christmas, it wasn't completely Christmas-focused, meaning that really, you could read it any time of the year! I really enjoyed Megan's relationship with her friends, co-workers, book club, and family. I thought there was a pretty decent character arc and development. I appreciated how quickly things moved, and I also enjoyed the peek into how life works in the publishing and book world.
This was a "closed-door" romance, so you don't have to worry about blushing and needing to worry about reading in public, (this is in reference to something a character said in the book!)
This was a really cute story. A story that involves a cute male protagonist, a bookshop, christmas and a love story. It was the perfect combination. The audiobook format was perfect for this story, it was a really easy book to listen to and i really enjoyed this
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! This is a Christmas time story of starting over and finding your way forward in life after loss. The characters were charming and this book should hit the spot for many this holiday season.
This was a lovely cosy Christmas audiobook that I quite enjoyed listening to while I’ve been at work the last few days. I did think that there would be a few more cosy bookshop based scenes but I still enjoyed the book chat and discussions, especially when they mentioned books that I’ve read as it made me feel part of the story.
The accents did put me off a little at first but I soon got use to them and was able to focus on the story and what was happening (something I sometimes struggle with in audiobooks) and could enjoy the story.
It was a really nice festive, feel good book that made me want to cosy up with my blanket and book and just snuggle down for the night - or whole weekend!!!
Quite a few days late but, A big thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for approving me of a copy of an e-arc of this book!
GOD, I LOVED IT. THE BEST.
