Good stories to tell every day at different occasions and times. Some are quick reads, and some have a good engaging plot. The stories are a wonderful combination of bedtime stories, rhymes, moral stories and just for fun stories. 40 stories about animals, planets and kids.

If this beautiful, nostalgic, classic cover doesn’t have you tearing up and running to read this one to the little one’s, I don’t know what will. I love collections of stories and fairytales, because there’s so many options in one book, and this one didn’t disappoint. Some of my personal favorite from this one are “Who Ate All the Sandwiches?”, “The Frog Prince”, “The Animal Tea Party”, and more. This one is perfect!

This book is filled with cute short stories for 4 year olds that definitely have some important lessons for children (saying please or thank you, eating broccoli, etc...) with even cuter illustrations! 4 y/o me would've loved this!

This book caught my attention with it's beautiful cover. This book has lots of tales and poems to enjoy with your little ones.

The illustrations are so adorable and in my opinion really make the book something new and exciting. The types of stories are a perfect mix of different themes: Pirates, Birds, Aliens and many many more.

Each story is just the right length, not too long for a four-year-old to lose interest. The rhyming makes it an easy read and very catchy. Although this book title is directed at four-year-olds my nearly 3 year old was very much enjoying these stories too!

I’m saying it again, as the illustrations are the best, this is really a lovely book to gift or receive as a gift, because it has so many stories, there always will be a story for the child to enjoy.

A Treasury of Tales for Four-Year-Olds caught my attention with it's beautiful cover. This is a super cute book with tons of tales and poems to enjoy with your little ones. The illustrations are beautiful, and the different types of stories are the perfect mix. There are Pirates, insects, dinosaur's and many more. Each tale is the perfect length, not too long for my four-year-old to lose interest. The rhyming is cute and catchy, it gave both of us the chance to enjoy it and be playful.

Although this book title is directed at four-year-olds I am sure older kids would enjoy this book as well.

Thank you NetGalley for the eARC to review.

This collection of stories and poems for four year olds is absolutely delightful and I highly recommend it. The illustrations offer beautiful complements to the short entries. A collection of forty tales seems perfect for an adult and child to share together at bedtime or any time of the day.

I think that both adults and children will enjoy this collection. I KNOW that reading to kids makes a huge difference for their futures. So have fun with this book. I like it so much.

Many thanks to Quarto Publishing Group-Frances Lincoln Books for this title. All opinions are my own.

So many parents and caregivers of young children are intimidated by the idea of oral storytelling with children. This anthology, a mix of poetry and short stories, is a helpful bridge between more familiar picture and board books (wonderful mediums which I enjoy) and oral storytelling. There is a wide variety of kinds of stories, from retellings of traditional fairy tales and folktales from around the world to newer stories to laugh-out-loud poems. The accompanying illustrations vary in their breadth, sometimes laying across a spread of pages with the text overlaid on top, other times winding about and around the text on the page. These illustrations are lush with color and draw the eye.

The only criticism I have is that I wish there were a helpful table of contents organizing the collection by type of story, i.e. silly stories and poems, traditional rhymes and folk tales, etc.

Overall this collection is a genuine treasure, an excellent addition to a pre-school classroom, library, or home.

This is a lovely book featuring short stories for 4 year olds. The front cover is delightful and makes the reader want to get comfy and dive right in! It aims to entertain children with a nod to promoting literacy skills. It has also got some good info for adults as to how to read the book in a way that supports children's development (for example by explaining new vocabulary.

The stories are short, but given how small people can drag out the bedtime routine, this is no bad thing!! The illustrations are beautiful and fitting to the content. The stories features some lovely rhyme to build a sound foundation for developing literacy skills. It is a book I'd introduce to 3 years olds as well as 4s!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.

This book is absolutely gorgeous. From the stories to the pictures it is just wonderful. Some stories have rhyming lines which is nice when reading aloud. A lovely book for parents to read aloud to children every night, with lots of nice stories too. Excellent book

A Treasury of Tales for 4 Year Olds, caught my eye immediately the first time I began looking for suitable ARC’s on NetGalley. I was excited to be granted access to review it, and I was not disappointed.
My review criteria is based on five points: age, language, theme, uses and entertainment.

Clearly stated in the title is the target age group, however this book has many tales that younger children would enjoy. I assess this book as directed primarily to my PreK group, ranging in the ages 3-5. Not every book needs to be suitable for all of my Centre’s age groupings, but I do prefer a book with wiggle room. If I had a School Age Program, this book would be ideal, as well. There is much to be explored! ⭐️

I could write a lengthy review based on the language experience offered in A Treasury of Tales for 4 Year Olds, alone. It is rewarding to read, and both the Student and Educator in me was energized as I explored every tale! I delighted in the variety of styles offered: poems, short and shorter stories, rhymes. The tone is gentle, lyrical and calming, while the use of literary devices shine. Alliteration, Simile, Onomatopoeia, Imagery, Anthropomorphism, Personification… the language here is enjoyable and rewarding. I’m really excited to read these tales out loud! ⭐️!

For the target age group, this book is “on the money,” thematically. Many of the stories are gently moral, with clear explanation and reminders about empathy, kindness, manners, and compassion. Where there is a need for conflict resolution, there is respect and reminders. I sense a genuine thoughtfulness and respect for children in these pages. ⭐️

A Treasury of Tales for 4 Year Olds, has already been buzzing around in my head with a variety of ways I will find this book useful in school. “Stop Train,” and “My Fish,” are very short stories that could be read in two-ish minutes. A perfect support during a transition, where there is a need to wait, (a transition is a small gap of time where things often go off track.) “Pirate Ouch,” is going to stay in my back pocket for one of those days where everyone is a bit grouchy and in need of a laugh. “The Egg,” reads like a dream and will entertain all your Dinosaur obsessed tiny humans. “Did you know…” follows many stories, noting interesting information about a key element of the story, and adds an extra layer of education and opportunity for further discussion. Perfectly suited to the classroom environment, many stories are credited as being “inspired by,” traditional fables and folktales, from a variety of cultures (Cherokee, Filipino, Zulu.) This invites a unique way to challenge your PreK’s into becoming Detectives… on the search of the original tales and drawing comparisons/differences between them. I have a very keen group of 4/5 year old PreK’s, who would love this activity, and I will be visiting this lesson in the new School year. ⭐️!

The final criteria for my reviews: entertainment. It comes last, but it is truly the most important aspect. If a story is not enjoyable to read and explore, all the potential for a dynamic learning experience is lost. Luckily, A Treasury of Tales for 4 Year Olds does not disappoint. Gabby Dawnay possesses immense skill with language and it is evident that she understands the nuances of childrens storytelling. The whimsical illustrations of Heidi Griffiths offer amazing, little, visual hints of the adventure to come. A great activity to explore, prior to starting to read. “What do you think the story is going to be about?” There is just so much in these pages to appreciate and explore.
⭐️
Enthusiastically, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️’s for A Treasury of Tales for 4 Year Olds! I have already pre-ordered my classroom copy, and have some gift plans for it this hChristmas. Thank you to Gabby Dawnay, Heidi Griffiths, Quarto Publishing Group and Frances Lincoln Children’s Group for approving my NetGalley request.

This is a wonderful collection of whimsical tales of animals, dragons, adventures and more.

The stories are lively and arranged in increasing order of complexity.

They are perfect for a child's imagination to grow.

The illustrations are lovely.

Will be a great addition to a child's library.

This is an ARC of this book.

This sweet picture book is perfect for bedtime stories and shared reading with your preschooler. The stories are each about 1-2 pages long and contain a variety of tales, old and new, that will captivate children. Some are rhyming stories and others come from folktales. The font is fairly large and easy to read and the pictures generally are on the border of the page and help tell the story. My only problem with this story is that things that come with an age on them are often very pigeonholed and I think this book would be great for a range of children rather than just 4 year olds. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the chance to read and review this book!

As the mother of a 4 year old, I was very impressed with this lovely collection of stories and poems. These are perfect for four year olds, filled with words that they are likely beginning to recognize. The watercolor illustrations are beautiful and I’m sure the physical version of this collection is gorgeous.

I love treasury books that include two things. 1)stories of various lengths so we can fit a one page story like how time flies or a longer one like the Violin depending on our schedule. 2) various subjects. I love treasuries that have various stories on various subjects that I can incorporate in my lessons.

This book is perfect, has quick fun stories and longer amusing stories that entertain. Also includes cute facts after certain stories which is fun

I am not always a fan of treasury books, because they are too old, too long, or just plain boring. This is a great collection of good stories that are not very long so you could actually read a few to little ones. They are more current stories to interact with today's kids and the artwork is soft and lovely. I could see this getting picked up and looked at often.

Thank you NetGalley!

This book was both a hit and a miss for me. Some of it was more wordy than I felt it needed to be. The organization of the different stories didn't have a natural flow. And yet there were some stories that seemed to be more eye catching and easier to understand vocabulary wise. While I enjoyed some of the stories, I don't know if this is one I would need to have on the shelf for my kids.
