This is the latest novella from the Author set on Widows Island featuring Deputy Tessa Black

Deputy Tessa Black is alerted that someone is digging in the local cemetery ......... she spots a young man and gives chase but loses him . On backtracking she finds that he was not digging up a grave but digging one to bury a box of bones .
With the help of her fiancé Logan Wilde the bones are identified as a runaway from a nearby Island ........ now they know she was murdered .
What follows is an investigation that puts their own lives at risk , can they identify the murderer before its too late ?
I always find these novellas a little too short - you only just get into the story and its concluded BUT I enjoy them non the less

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

The Wrong Bones by Melinda Leigh is book 9 of the Widow's Island Novella series. This story is a fast read, full of action from the very first page. From the first creepy scene in a graveyard, you won’t be able to stop reading. I read a lot of books in this genre and the ultimate culprit surprised me. I recommend this book to readers of mystery. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

I enjoyed the plot, liked most of the characters and the book kept my attention throughout. I wouldn’t call it a page turner but still good nonetheless. Great work!

When Tessa stumbles upon a gravedigger, she's drawn into a murder investigation linking several people to a missing teen. With a wedding to plan, and a missing killer hen on top, Tessa going to need all the help she can get to hunt down the killer.

As with the rest of the Widow's Island series, this is a fast paged thriller that starts from the first page and doesn't let go until the last. Although it's lost some of the atmosphere of the early books, and maybe a bit of the charm now that both main protagonists are settled down, there's still a lot to love here. It's an easy read with guaranteed action with some mystery elements thrown in. Being so short, it doesn't have time to meander and throw in too many red herrings before wrapping up. It's the perfect hit of a small town, isolated island setting mini thriller with a neat tied up ending. That's said, the short length does mean we loose a lot of backstory and therefore reasonings behind the killers motives. Some of the action scenes are a bit over the top too, but I can live with this for a bit of a fun time.

I'm unsure if this is the last in the series, as I can't find information regarding any further novellas, but I'd certainly continue to read about Tessa and Cate should Melinda and Kendra choose to carry on. I've really took a shine to Widow's Island and would love to see more of this world and its inhabitants.

The Wrong Bones by Melinda Leigh
Deputy Tessa Black is on duty in the tiny town down of Widows Island. As she approaches the cemetery a group of kids come out scared to death. They had seen someone digging up a grave. As Tessa goes to check out the situation the would be grave robber takes off and she looses him. Things go down hill from there. From an abusive father, to a shot deputy to active shooter situation there isn’t dull moment.
This book is part of a series of novellas. Thanks to Montlake publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

I found this series when I was looking for new romantic suspense series and I am so happy I found this one. This is book 10 of the series and it did not disappoint.

This story starts with Tessa, Widow Island deputy, trying to catch a grave robber but finds bones instead. With the help of Logan, park ranger and Tessa’s fiancé, they will try and track down who the bones belong to and the potential killer. As noted this is part of a series but you would be able to read it as a stand-alone as the author is great at giving a quick explanation as to who everyone is.

What I Loved:
- Length, this is a novella and is a quick read but a lot happens
- Community, Widow’s Island is a small community and everyone pitches in to help whenever it is needed
- Logan and Tessa’s relationship, I enjoy how they work the case together and Logan never has issues with letting Tessa take the lead
- Twist, I was pleasantly surprised when the killer was revealed it was unexpected and added a unique perspective of who typically is the killer

If you like romantic suspense books that is more suspense than romance and don’t have a ton of time I would absolutely suggest you pick up this book or any in the series. I hope they continue to write more and I look forward to the future of Widow’s Island and its inhabitants.

THE WRONG BONES By Melinda Leigh

Deputy Tessa Black spots someone disturbing a grave at a local cemetery. While trying to catch the trespasser, she discovers that the trespasser was not robbing graves but burying a box of bones.

😊What i liked -

✔ Thriller/Suspense
✔ Even though this was book 10 in the series (maybe even the last book), I did not feel lost, the author makes sure of it.
✔ I loved Tessa and Logan's equation in both their personal and professional lives.
✔ I loved to see how the small town community all got together to help out when needed.
✔ Even though the story was short it managed to keep me at edge.
✔ I liked how the suspense unravels and what was most surprising was the end. I just wasn't expecting that.

🤔What could have been better -

✔ Even though I liked it, I found the starting to be a bit slow.

A quick paced book, good storyline and character portrayal. The likes of which we’ve covered to expect from this author.
Although part of a series, you’d be able to read and enjoy as a standalone.
Really enjoyed this book.

This was a quick action packed read that will have you turning pages. It is part of a series but can comfortably stand alone. I liked the characters, the action, the twists and turns. I do find this author’s writing style somewhat choppy but still eagerly wait for the next book release.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishing house and the author for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

This was a great novella with some of my favourite officers. Tessa and Logan are always interesting to read about. It’s like checking in with old friends.

Tessa finds a man trying to hide bones by burying them in a graveyard, she gives chase but he gets away. Tessa and Logan find a runaway teen living in the woods alone; Tessa also discovers a man living in a rental property who shouldn’t be there. Is one of these people the person who killed the girl and tried to bury her bones. As Tessa and Logan get close to the answer their lives hang in the balance. Will they both survive and finally get married?

Can’t wait for the next book.

This is an enjoyable novella which is part of a romantic suspense series. There is a good cast of characters and the author includes lots of tantalising hints to other stories without spoiling these. It can be read as a standalone story but I guarantee you will be looking for the rest of series as soon as you finish it.

Deputy Tessa Black is doing routine patrol in the evening when she almost hits a teen running out of the local cemetery with two friends. They had seen someone digging up a grave, and were scared out of their wits. Tessa sends them home and sneaks into the cemetery thinking she will catch a grave robber. It is not a robber, but someone trying to bury bones, including a human skull. Tessa calls for help from Logan and though they try to catch the person, he/she gets away. Following tracks, they come across an illegal campsite and a sixteen year old who has run away from home. They are sure he knows more than he is telling them, but at this point, they want to keep him safe. When the bones are identified as a teenager that was reported missing several months earlier, Tessa and Logan follow the clues to find out who was responsible for her death.

Because these books are novellas, they don't waste time building up to the story, it starts right from the first page. This book shows how well Tessa is able to follow the clues to find out who is responsible for the crime she is investigating, in this case a murder. Once again, there is abuse in this story, but not graphic, just insinuated. This is one of those stories where I was sure I had it figured out, but I went the obvious route and was wrong. This was another fast moving story, well plotted and written with some great characters, good clues and a few suspects. I enjoyed the ending where one of our couples gets married, just one more to go, which means this series is not over yet.

I was unaware this was the tenth book in the series it can definitely be read as a stand alone story. I really enjoyed the flow of the storyline and felt i knew the characters well by the end. A first reading from this author i will definitely now check out the others in the series

The Wrong Bones had me thinking I had it all figured out to being wrong several times! The tenth book in a series but I have not read the other books and still enjoyed it. Loved the main characters and now I want to go back and read more.

What a great idea; a thriller series with each book of novella length. Not only is the mystery exciting and tense but each book can be read in one evening so it makes perfect reading for anyone who feels they don't have time to read. This is the tenth in the series but easily be read as a standalone.

In this instalment, Tessa starts the ball rolling by disturbing and giving chase to a person burying a box of bones in the graveyard. This quickly escalates into a murder investigation and there are a couple of suspects once the identity of the murder victim is revealed. Logan, the park ranger partners up with her to find the killer.

We get a sense of the realities of living on a small island where there are few resources and help can be far away when something goes wrong.

This was a quick read with high drama and a satisfying conclusion.

This was a good read. It is very short which I liked as it meant the story wasn't dragged out too much. The beginning was slow but it picks up in the middle and I really liked the twist at the end.

The synopsis for this book appealed to me, so I read it not realizing that it was the tenth book in a series. I'm happy to report that even if you are new to the series, you'll be fine reading this one. While short, this book really packs a punch with the suspense and mystery.

When Deputy Tessa Black is on night patrol and is alerted to someone digging in the cemetery, she chases the person but loses them in the state park. They have left behind a box of bones and a mystery. Looking for assistance, Tessa contacts her fiance and state park ranger, Logan and together discover a teenager who won't talk about their connection to the bones.

I enjoyed this book enough that I'll be going back for it's predecessors immediately. If you're a fan of suspense, this will be a great series for you to sink your teeth into.

The Wrong Bones – Melinda Leigh
It’s late evening on Widow’s Island in Washington and Deputy Tessa Black is heading home from patrol when she sees a small figure dart across the road, seemingly coming from the nearby cemetery. She stops to assess the situation and finds three local kids, who, while playing hide and seek, spotted a ghostly figure digging a grave. Tess heads in to see for herself, and catches a darkly cloaked figure with a shovel, who turns and runs as she approaches. She chases him to a fence line where he climbs the fence and takes off, but not before leaving a box on the ground. Much to Tess’s shock, the box contains human remains…

A quick examination by the medical examiner determines that the bones belonged to a young woman – and that she was murdered. A unique feature makes her easily identifiable – and it’s determined that she disappeared from nearby Bainbridge Island less than a year ago…but how did she wind up here, in a box, with someone trying to bury her bones? A killer’s remorse? Or something more. Tess, and fiancé Logan, a State Forest Ranger, are determined to find out... Are you??

This may be a ‘novella’, but it’s a fast-paced, who-dun-it and delivers all of the ingredients you’d expect from a full sized novel – suspense, murder, intrigue, dysfunctional characters, and a sweet ending – from two of my favorite authors! Great read – great series! If you enjoy murder and mayhem, you’ll love these authors and this series!
