The Wrong Bones by Melinda Leigh is another anticipated story in the Widow's Island series. Deputy Tessa Black is told about after-dark activity in the graveyard by some kids who were scared away from their evening fun. Tessa gives chase and a hooded figure escapes as she tries to investigate. When Tessa and park ranger Logan Wilde check the disturbance, they are surprised to find a box of bones. The bones are determined to be those of a young girl who has been missing for several months. Was her death the result of an accident or something much more devious? This opens another interesting and exciting mystery to follow just in time for Halloween reading!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for the opportunity to read The Wrong Bones. The publication date is October 25, 2022.
Another win by Melinda Leigh. Catches you in the very beginning as Deputy Tessa Black finds a couple kids out by the grave yard shaking in their boots. They saw someone digging up bones! Tessa goes to investigate and the mystery just keeps on going. Besides being the entertaining page turner that Melinda Leigh always provides there is so much more woven within. Her mom's dementia, her sister Patience who deserves a normal childhood and struggles to help Tessa. The knitting group that is always there for her mom, showing family comes in all shapes and sizes. Domestic abuse which also comes in all shapes and sizes of society. PTSD that her ex military fiance, park ranger Logan still deals with. All woven gently throughout this fast paced mystery that ends with a shocking twist and a grand hea that so fits within the life of Deputy Tessa. I will miss Widows Island and the family they have become to me. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #thewrongbones #melindaleigh #montlake #netgalley
A great read again. Melinda Leigh always fascinates me with her writing skills. These mysteries on Widows Island, written along with Kendra Elliott are great reads. This gang of friends work great together.
When someone is in the cemetery adding bones to a grave, Tessa takes off after them and eventually loses them. From there, residents and not so welcome residents are investigated across the island. Teenager Chandler is discovered in bad place with his family reconciling, something he's not happy with.
This series ends with this book and both main couples settled. Loved this gang.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy.
Have always loved all the books by the writer and this was no different. Highly recommended.
Let me start by saying that Melinda Leigh is one of my favorite authors. Her Widow’s Island series takes place on an island off the Washington Coast. The main characters in all the novellas are the sheriff, Tessa Black and the Park Ranger Logan Wilde who is also Tessa’s fiancé. In The Wrong Bones a group of kids playing flashlight tag in the cemetery come upon someone digging in a grave. As they run away, Tessa catches them. She listens to their story and walks into the cemetery to investigate. She comes across the person and tells him to stop. Of course, the person runs but only after grabbing a box from the ground. During the chase the person drops the box while trying to get away. Inside the box are human bones. Rather than grave robbing, someone was burying bones. Included in this novella are some side stories that neatly wrap into the conclusion. The only complaint I have is that, as a novella, this book is way too short.
ARC review, provided via Netgalley. I happily give my honest opinion. Book 10 in the Widows Island series gets right in to the action. Tessa finds someone who has tried to bury a box of bones in the graveyard. The bones lead to an investigation with her fiancé Logan which takes them all over the island and leads to a lot of possible suspects. During the investigation they come across a young man who claims to have been mistreated by his father, it turns out he has more to do with the story than expected. I loved how this story continued the small town feel of the previous books and how it carried along swiftly after the previous book. I loved how Logan supported Tessa in her work and in their home life and how Tessa looked after everyone. I loved the ending as well.
This is a novella and you should read the other 9 books before this one. Tessa finds a man trying to bury a box of bones. It’s a race to figure out who who they belong to and who is the murderer. Fast paced and the book wrapped up with a good ending for three women who had been friends since childhood.
This was a great story with wonderful characters. I wish it had been longer with more details but I loved the novella. Logan and Tessa are determined to keep their little community safe and when someone is seen digging in the graveyard things start to happen. A box of bones is discovered, a teenage boy needs help to stay safe from his parents, and an unexpected twist as to who is doing the murders. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author.
A fantastic five-star read. This is the tenth novella in the Widow Island series, and I simply adore how these two authors pass the baton between them, Tessa and Cate tell their own stories and they flow seamlessly. This is such an engaging story that you will be swept up, when you get involved in this story you find yourself needing to know everything. This will grip you no matter how crazy the story gets. Do not miss this amazing series.
Book: The Wrong Bones
Author: Melinda Leigh
Series: Widow Island #10
Publisher: Montlake
Genre: Mystery
Pub Date: October 25, 2022
My Rating: 3.6 Stars
I am a big fan of author, Melinda Leigh’s Bree Taggert series and embarrassed to say I have not read any in this series. This is the tenth in Widow Island series written by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot ~ Melinda Leigh wrote books 2, 3, 6, 7, and 10, Kendra Elliot -1, 4, 5, 8, and 9).
Deputy Tessa Black finds a man disturbing a grave, but when she catches him, she discovers he isn’t ‘grave robbing’ but burying bones.
Logan Wilde, Tess’s fiancé who is a park ranger helps her with the investigation of these bones. They discover that the bones belong to a teenager girl who went missing nine months ago.
Although ruled a runaway now as murdered.
Although I am not a fan of novella and/or short stories since this was written by Melinda Leigh I thought I would like and I did!!
Want to thank NetGalley and Montlake for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for October 25, 2022
When a call comes in of teens causing trouble in the Widow’s Island graveyard, Deputy Tessa Black doesn’t expect to find a grave robber burying a box of bones containing a missing girl from a nearby island.
With her fiancé, park ranger Logan Wilde at her side, Tessa investigates the scene and questions a growing list of suspects, but the case is further complicated by a suspect-turned-victim and a shooting endangering Tessa’s police force.
The pace is fast in what is the last novella in this engaging series. The characters are well-rounded and there’s even an unlikely pet rooster to lighten the sober topics of child abuse, dementia, and wildfire concerns.
“I voluntarily read an ARC of this book which was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.”
You should definitely read the previous books in this series as this is a novella and as such is shorter on character definition/background in order to keep the story rolling on.
In ‘The Wrong Bones’ sheriff deputy Tessa Black catches what she thinks is a grave robber in the Widow’s Island cemetery. Turns out the supposed teenage grave robber is actually trying to re-bury a box of bones.
Along with her fiancé, park ranger Logan Wilde, Tessa must figure out who the bones are and solve the mystery as to why a teenage boy is in possession of them before the killer realises they are missing.
Hard to believe this is book 10 in the Widow’s Island series. I really enjoy this series by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot. This was a speedy read for me. A bit of mystery, a bit of suspense and a wedding. What more could you ask for? 4 stars from me.
Highly recommend this one! This was my first book to read by this author but definitely won't be my last. The characters will stay with you long after you finish the book and you will find yourself wishing the story would never end.
Leigh is one of my favorite authors and in my opinion, can do no wrong and she for sure doesn’t disappoint. She’s written complex and compelling characters and I loved catching back up with Tessa & Logan. So if you’re looking for a non-stop action-packed book series that feels like you’re watching your mystery/police procedural show, then run don’t walk and pick up the Widow’s Island novella series. I would strongly suggest reading the books in order, as they follow the same characters and you’ll miss a lot of the back story if you don’t start at the beginning. No book is longer than 90 pages so this is a great series to binge. Leigh writes this series with Kendra Elliot. Leigh’s books are 2, 3, 6, 7 & 10 and follow Deputy Tessa Black. Elliot’s books are 1, 4, 5, 8 & 9 and follow former FBI agent Cate Wilde. These stories somewhat overlap as they take place in the same location and are inhabited by the same characters but each author focuses their stories on their specific MC. This is book ten in the Widow's Island novella series, to get started from the beginning check out Close to the Bone by Kendra Elliot, book one.
I received this eARC thanks to NetGalley & Montlake in exchange for an honest review. Publishing dates are subject to change.
This is another great addition to the series on Widows island. Tessa finds herself in quite a mystery when their are bones found at the cemetery. Someone was trying to bury the bones two feet in the ground. So investigating to find where the bones came from takes everyone on this island.
Thank you to netgalley for complimentary copy. I enjoyed this story and the characters.
Another great book in the series! Melinda Leigh always does a wonderful job of delivering a mail bitter.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Tessa is working a new case where bones of a girl was found. The girl was thought to be a runaway, Tessa with the help of her fiance will try to figure out what happened and who did it. I cant waitvto read rhe next book in this series.
The Wrong Bones by Melinda Leigh.
This is the 10th book in this series, but can easily be read as a standalone. I have enjoyed all the books of Melinda Leigh’s that I have read so far, and this one does not disappoint either. The story grabs your attention right from the start and keeps you engaged and interested. I love trying to solve the mystery, and suspense was on point.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this brilliant novello
when deputy tessa black is stopped by some young lads saying someone was digging up a grave she immediately springs into action and calling in her location of the grave yard it isnt long before logan joins her
they missed out on catching the perp but for their troubles they found a box of bones...human bones....
the race is on to find the identity of the bones and to find the perp
but as with a melinda leigh book there is more to this than meets the eye
another brilliant novello that keeps you reading right to the end
cant wait to visit this island again
I'm going to miss this series. Deep Bone by Kendra Elliot and The Wrong Bones by Melinda Leigh are the two closing books of the Widow's Island series. It's worth reading all previous books because they are short and will give you the whole picture of this island community.
The Wrong Bones is a great wrap-up of the relationship of Tessa and Logan, and it is as fast-paced and action-packed as each novella before.
Thank you NetGalley and Montlake for an Advance Review Copy.
