It took a while for the book to grow on me. I didn’t really like the narrators voice is a little bit annoying and nasally. But I really like the story development between sky and Will!! It so a very good read once you dug into it!!

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I could not get into this audiobook as it did not hold my attention for any length of time.

What a beautifully told winter story - not just the holidays, but the beauty and presence of winter. And how a wedding enables the love to lead the way. Skye finds herself homeless after the breakup of a relationship. She is then left a share of a lodge in the grounds of Willow Tree Hall. Unfortunately it is owned by Will! After they put their differences aside they set out to renovate the building. Is there magic still left in the Willow Tree Hall?

This was a sweet Christmas romance with a familiar trope, but a lot of quirky plot and character features. I liked the setting and characters, and I mostly liked the narration. There were a few characters whose voices I I honestly found grating, but I was overall pleased with the narrator. This was the third in the series, but I have not read the previous books and this did well as a stand-alone story. Well worth the read.

I was really disappointed with the start of this book, then the middle part was enjoyable, but the ending was back to disappointment. It's a familiar trope - quirky girl next door type meets rich stiff upper lip man who appears rude but turns out to have a heart of gold. The beginning also contained two eye-rollingly obvious clichés. The first is that quirky girl accidentally crashes her tatty old car into rich man's Aston Martin. The second is that quirky girl sprains her ankle and has to be carried by rich man.

The middle of the story, the restoration of the hall, the developing friendships, the wedding planning, were all ok, but the ending felt rushed and I couldn't feel the connection or spark that the couple apparently had. I think this could really have been improved by some more originality in the meet-cute, and a build up of romance between the couple, and more of a focus on the hall itself and the interesting side characters.

Thank you so much for letting me listen to this audiobook. This was such a cute and cosy story that perfectly fits the colder time of the year.

I didn’t pay close enough attention when I requested this book to the fact that it was book 3 in the series. I suppose it stands alone, as many romance series do, with the cameos of previous characters. I would like the go back to the beginning of the series.

This charming story is being released as an audiobook this year and it’s a sweet Christmas romance book for 2022.

Will is back at Willowtree Hall after his recent tabloid scandal and loss of his job. He thinks he can move into the Willowtree Lodge he’s expecting to inherit until Skye shows up claiming she owns the Lodge too.

Soon Skye is being welcomed into the community and Will is catching feelings – even if he wants the Lodge for himself. As they work together to help Will’s older brother get the Christmas wedding of his dreams, their romance blooms in a delightful way.

A very cosy, cute audiobook, perfect for this time of the year. Unfortunately, I felt the characters lacked substance and didn't feel well-rounded, especially the side characters that seemed to live simply to be there for the main characters. Overall, a good read though.

For the most part I enjoyed Penny Andrews narration of this novel, there were a couple of female characters with high pitched voices that I wasn't a super fan of but Penny was able to give each character a distinct voice, making it quite easy to figure out who was speaking.
I enjoyed the story, I love that Skye was able to find a family she didn't realize she was missing and a new passion for life. The description of the hall makes me want to travel to the English countryside and read a book in front of a fireplace. Looking forward to reading more books from Alison Sherlock in the future.

I wasn't the big fan of the narration in beginning but slowly the story grew on me & nothing else mattered.

I haven't read much of FOUND FAMILY TROPE, but I really loved how it's done in this book. Will & Skye's story is sweet, cute, hilarious, heartwarming & so much more✨️
Absolutely LOVED it💟

Thank you netgalley and Saga Egmont Audio for providing me the audiobook in exchange of an honest review.

A winter wedding at Willow tree hall is a wonderful way to get any reader in the holiday mood. What’s the forecast of fun characters and the classic grumpy to Sunshine trope you really can’t go wrong when packing up this feel good publication by Alison Sherlock

A Winter Wedding at Willowtree Hall by Alison Sherlock

While I love the idea and story of A Winter Wedding at Willowtree Hall, I could not stand the narrator. Her voice was just too high and perky and squeaky for me, and I had to stop listening very early into the story. If an ebook review copy were to appear, I'd happily give this story another chance but I'm not seeing it as an option here on Netgalley. Thank you to the publisher for the chance! Unfortunately it just didn't work out this time.

This audiobook started a trend for me — reading books out of season. I saw the cover and was so taken by it.

Skye is traveling through England in the air streamer she inherited from a dear friend who was like a surrogate dad to her and her sister. Per his request, she travels to Willowtree Hall to meet the family that owns that estate, and learns that she’s set to inherit a piece of it. It’s a surprise to her and to Will, the playboy grandson who recently lost his job at a Swiss ski resort thanks to a scandal he was embroiled in. Much to his dismay, Skye is invited to stay on and quickly learns of the family’s dire financial situation. As she integrates into the family she becomes an invaluable part of the team whether it’s organizing a wedding, redesigning a house or getting closer to the real Will that no one else gets to know.

This is a wonderful story to get anyone in to the holiday mood. I liked the setup and the variety of personalities. The only downside for me was the narrator’s take on the characters’ voices. They seemed to me to be either squeaky or croaky, and sometimes hard to differentiate from each other. Still I liked the story more than I was thrown off by the narration.

I recommend reading the story, instead. If you’re a fan of the grumpy-sunshine trope this will do it for you. I’ll also definitely recommend this one to anyone looking for a sweet, heartwarming Christmas story.

Many thanks to @netgalley and Saga Egmont Audio did my review copy. This is my honest review.

I really wanted to like this one, but after 10 chapters, unfortunately I could not get into this. The story did not go flow well for me enough to stay interested.

A Winter Wedding at Willowtree Hall by Alison Sherlock

Blurb

Previously published as "A Way Back Home"

After recent heartbreak, Skye Jackson is homeless and on the road with only a classic Airstream trailer to her name.

A surprise inheritance of a rundown little lodge in the grounds of beautiful Willow Tree Hall forces her to change her plans.

The only problem is that the lodge is co-owned by care-free playboy Will Harris, currently in hiding after a recent tabloid scandal.

Skye desperately wants a home to call her own. Will needs a place to escape the ghosts of his past. So they decide to put aside their differences and renovate the cottage together.

But when a storm hits, Skye and Will are forced to stay on to ensure that a Christmas wedding goes ahead. Can Skye finally find a home of her own? Can Will ever stop running from his past?

My Opinion

This is the third book in the series, but I have read this as a standalone. This is a great book about healing, and finding that home isn't always where you think it is. Dripping with Christmas spirit, this is a heart-warming read that will make for a lovely festive read on a cold winter night.

Rating 4/5

After losing a family member Skye finds herself homeless with only a classic Airstream to her name and a letter telling her that an adventure awaits.

She finds herself at the beautiful Willow Tree Hall, an estate in the English countryside and a surprise inheritance of a little lodge on the grounds. There is one catch, the lodge is co-owned by playboy, Will Harris. Will she stay and help fix up the lodge and estate or will she move on as quickly as she can?

Originally published in 2018 under the name "A Way Back Home", this book is the third in a series but stands alone quite well. I had no previous knowledge of the characters but they all filled in and had distinct personalities so it was not confusing to have any previous background.

The setting was a wonderful winter wonderland and can really get you into the holiday spirit. I did feel that the side characters were a little pushier about the couple getting together than I liked but that is the way it is for some people, more of a slow burn than love at first sight. The banter between Skye and Will was very cute and kept it interesting.

Final Thoughts: A great story to get anyone into the holiday season and a Happliy Ever After. A slower build to the relationship than I would have liked but still would recommend it to others who don't like a lot of spicy but still enjoy romance.

What an enjoyable audio! First of all, I really liked the narrator. They captured the story well and did a great job distinguishing between characters. Second, I enjoyed that this was not a story of people who have money to do whatever, whenever. Not even a little. This story shows that even those with a title do not have it all.
The characters were a lot of fun to spend time with. Skye is such a kind-hearted soul and Will is a teddy bear disguised as a grump haha. And all of the side characters? They’re enjoyable to spend time with as well.
A story of discovery and hope and love, this should be added to your winter reading list!

I loved the story of Skye and Will. The storyline is an enemies-to-lovers romance. But despite the common trope, the setting and people were unique. The sense of community and support for friends and family was heartwarming. And I truly cared about the major characters in the story. I also found the quick-witted banter between Skye and Will to be fun too.

Definitely one of the better HEA romances I've read this year!
