Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the oportunity to read this ARC, my first in the series. I love James Patterson but if I had bought this book I would have been disappointed. If I had borrowed it from my local library I would have returned it unfinished. As it is I persivered and finished it.
I found the plot clunky and cliched, the story predictible. The characters were bland with no depth and instantly forgettable. This is only my opinion.
I have noticed lately James Pattersons books are missing the story pull of his early works, especially when colaborating.
Rating: 2.2/5
Although "Private Beijing" is the 17th book in this series it is very easy to pick this up even if you have not read any of the other sixteen prior to this. As you would expect from two experienced writers, the style of this certainly fluent and it may suit readers who like their reading material to move along at a good pace throughout,
Even though there is a fairly basic plot underpinning the narrative, the storyline is predominantly action and event driven. It is difficult not to get the impression that the plot is little more than a necessary means of allowing the authors to link together a series of graphically described action scenes. The characterisation is largely superficial and even the leading protagonist, Jack Morgan, has little in the way of depth.
This is an okay way to pass the time without having to exercise the grey matter too much, but overall it is too formulaic and clichéd to be particularly satisfying.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for supplying an ARC in return for an honest review.
Private Beijing is ripped apart after an attack leaves three agents dead and the head of the team missing.
With the Beijing branch in turmoil, Private's owner and global head, Jack Morgan, immediately gets on a plane from LA.
Soon after Jack lands in China, another Private office is attacked. It's clear that the entire organisation is under threat.
Keeps you on your toes!… I highly recommend this to the armchair detectives of the world! A totally addictive page-turner that will have you racing through the pages and reeling at the twists! A fantastic read…
Book 17 in the Private security company series and the story this time involves some follow up from book 15, Private Moscow, although it reads well as a stand-alone This is another fast paced and exhilarating adventure for Jack Morgan and his team. With much mayhem as the action moves between Beijing, Moscow and the US the pace never lets up and it is almost impossible to put the book down.
Briefly, the team in Beijing are following up a lead but find the tables turned in the most shocking of ways and the team leader goes missing. Morgan is asked to help find him so heads off to China. This is explosive action as more members of his team are killed and his entire Moscow crew also disappear. Very quickly he finds himself up against old foes who are determined to bring the entire Private team down.
I really like the main protagonist, Jack, he’s strong, focussed and deadly but he also has a softer side and he’s loyal in the extreme. A fabulous fast paced, high octane thriller and I enjoyed every page.
Thank you NetGalley for the arc of James Pattersons Private Beijing in return for my honest review.
I love the Private series, Jack Morgan is one of my favourite James Patterson characters. Private Beijing does not disappoint once started I could not put it down, it's full of action from the start and does not let up till the end a fast paced page turner, can not wait for the next instalment.
Brilliant as always! Private Beijing seems to be the book in the private series that really makes you wonder whether Jack Morgan is going to escape alive. When you think it’s all over, the story continues on. Brilliant linking multiple different private locations Jack is in a whole world of trouble this time. Huge thanks to James Patterson and the publisher for the ARC to one of my favourite series.
Jack Morgans latest investigation puts all Privates staff in more danger than usual, due to the perpetrators target.
An attack is made on Private Beijings team, when on a stake out, fatalities and a missing member, location unknown, leaves Jack flying to Beijing to look further into their ongoing investigation. For Jack and his team, the race is on before more lives are lost...
Another great read from James Patterson. Whilst it's part of the Private series, it could easily be read as a standalone book.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for an advance copy of Private Beijing, the seventeenth thriller to feature PI agency Private and its owner Jack Morgan.
An attack on Private Beijing employees doing surveillance leaves three dead and one missing. Jack has hardly touched down in Beijing when learns that one of his New York employees has been killed and another is in a coma. Why is Private under attack? It’s a question he’s determined to answer.
I thoroughly enjoyed Private Beijing, which is another high octane read, full of action and twists. It never stops. It is told from Jack’s first person point of view with other agency members contributing in the third person. This means that the authors can cover a range of simultaneous events, while keeping it personal to Jack. It works well in keeping the reader turning the pages with a fast pace and multiple developments.
Nobody picks up a James Patterson thriller for realism, it’s more of a “well, it could happen, maybe” type read with more guns, bodies and action scenes. It certainly promotes an American centric world view. Anyway, who needs realism when you can get entertainment and this novel is highly entertaining as Jack blasts his way round Beijing, moves on to meet old friends and foes elsewhere while his girlfriend, Justine Smith, runs the bad guys to earth in New York. There is a lot going on in this novel, but the prose is clear and never difficult to understand. Keeping up with events requires stamina.
Private Beijing is a fun read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
A fast-paced, action packed page turner, full of twists and turns!
Although this is book number 17 in the Private series, it can be read as a standalone novel, in my opinion.
Fans of James Patterson and the series will not be disappointed and for readers who have not been introduced to the characters before, the authors give enough background and description to ensure the reader understands their personalities and motives in context with the.storyline.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for sending me cc a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read the next installment in the Private series.
As always a great read, fast paced and this one crosses continents too. I will not divulge the story because that defeats the object of a reader actually reading the autor's work. Suffice to say well worth a read !
A new James Patterson book… let me at it!
Another non stop action Private novel. This series would make e great TV show or movie. Jack Morgan travels to China, where the Private offices and staff are being targeted. Never one to shy away from danger, Jack and the remaining members of the team try to find out who is after them and why. At the same time, the same thing is happening in the New York office.
As always, Jack has to battle the bad guys, bombs, drone, car chases as much much more. It is always exciting reading and ai powered through this installment in a day.
Thanks to Random House UK, Cornerstone and NetGalley for my advanced copy to read. Publishes 29th December
Private Beijing is another great installment in this series. Patterson and Hamdy have created a decent, fast-paced thriller that will keep the reader turning those pages. These books always have a cinematic quality which makes them compulsive page turners. Recommended for action and thriller fans for sure!
James Patterson? Need to say anymore????
This author is a legend and a benchmark for all other authors of this genre. In this book, written in collaboration with Adam Hamdy, James Patterson once again delivers a fast paced thriller story taking place globally.
The book sucks you in a way it becomes addictive which seems to be a common denominator across James Patterson's books.
To say that I recommend this book is the understatement of the year!
From the first page of Private Being I was gripped. Who - or what - is hellbent on attacking the offices of Private? A global security company? As agents are taken out in Beijing and then in New York Jack Morgan travels to China to find out who wants to destroy him and his employees. Well rounded characters, a plot which races and a satisfying conclusion. No one does global thrillers and espionage quite like Patterson (and Hamdy) does - thoroughly excellent read and one i raced trough.
The latest instalment in the Private series sees boss Jack Morgan rushing to Beijing as some of his staff there have been attacked and killed. Then there is an attack on the New York office and the rest of the LA based team go there to investigate. What follows is a complex invesigation spanning both of those sites and also Russia. There are strong links to the previous book in the series in this one, so best to read in order.
Tense, suspenseful, edge of your seat stuff. Not always realistic (I hope) but a really good read as ever. Looking forward to the next episode.
Highly recommended to anyone who likes a fast paced thriller, but start at the beginning of the series. Thank you to NetGalley for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This series is so addictive that I can’t seem to stop reading it.
This time we are headed to Beijing. I can’t say that I’ve read many if any books set in China and it was interesting to read about a culture that I didn’t know too much.
It is a fast-paced read with many turns and twists. Jack Morgan is teaming up with Zhang Daiyu on the rollercoaster ride to battle the crime society that is killing his team.
I loved how we get a big glimpse into his other facade, the more personal part of his life.
The investigation is downright scary with the adrenaline rush escalating with each new chapter, and the epic conclusion is so worth the wait. I felt it was not all over and maybe we will get to meet some characters in future books.
Addictive, fast paced and thrilling story.
🆓📖Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley
Excellent. Fast paced, good story line set between China, USA, and Russia. It took ages to find out who was behind the plot, but well worth the wait. Jack Morgan used all of his his 9 lives, and then some! The ending was also good when all the loose ends were tied up. A really good read.
Great addition to this series, full of danger, mystery ,excitement, old enemies, spills and thrills. Who is targeting Private?
As always, a very well plotted, action packed read in this latest instalment of the Private series. This time we see Jack head to Beijing where three of his operatives have been killed and the head of the team is missing. Within a short time another Private team is attacked. Someone is out to break both Jack and Private, but Jack is out for revenge, so don’t get in his way.
As always with this series, and with these authors, it’s a fast paced read, plenty of action and decent characters, and heroes, to cheer for. My only complaint, as always, is that I read these books too fast, needing to find out how Jack and his team respond to the threats against them, and that justice is served. Highly recommended.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Am such a massive James Patterson fan so I jumped at the chance to read this book and it didn’t disappoint me at all it was such a enjoyable page turner which I read immediately . It really gets straight into the action from the very beginning of the boom and does not let up until the end. Brilliant book and very very highly recommended. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book to review
