Another excellent book by Kendra Elliot ! This series every single book is more captivating than the last. Great mystery and great characters what's not to love.
This series is very entertaining. I normally do not enjoy shorter books, as I find it is hard to get the necessary character development. With this series it is great, because you get a little more each book. I would highly recommend if you want a fast story, as each book has it's own plot, but one that builds on relationships.
I received this book from Netgalley, but listened on audiobook.
This is the 9th book in this series and I couldn't put it down. It definitely lived up to the hype. I would definitely recommend it to others.
Bone Deep is the ninth in a series of novellas written by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot. Told in alternating points of view by best friends Deputy Tessa Black and former FBI Agent Cate Wilde, the Widow's Island novellas follow the two women's' lives in their small community of Widow's Island.
Bone Deep, and other entries by Kendra Elliot, are told from Cate's point of view. When Cate's fiance, Dr. Henry Powers, is abducted from his office at gunpoint by two masked men, Cate teams with her former FBI office and the local sheriff's office to find Henry.
As the investigation unfolds, Cate discovers that Henry's abductors are part of a team of brothers who have committed a string of bank robberies and that one of the brothers was shot in their most recent crime. Cate, the FBI, and the local sheriff's office are in the race against the clock to find Henry.
I highly recommend this entire series of novella for quick, compelling reads.
Bone Deep was another excellent addition to the Widow's Island series following Cate as she searches for Henry after he is kidnapped.
Dr. Henry Powers is finishing up for the day at his clinic on Widow's Island when two armed men enter and kidnap him to force him to save their injured brother. Former FBI agent Cate Wilde knows something is wrong when her fiancé Henry doesn't come home after his shift. Desperate to find the man she loves, Cate teams up with the FBI and the local sheriff's office to find Henry. When all signs point to his abductors being a trio of brothers who robbed a bank, one of whom was shot in the process, Cate knows time is running out to find Henry alive. While Henry plots his escape, Cate uses every resource at her disposal to find him in time.
The plot in this one sounded interesting and jumps straight into the action with Henry being kidnapped in the first chapter. Once the group arrives at the location where the injured man is stashed, it doesn't take long for Henry to realize the men have no intention of letting him go. Cate's search for Henry picks up only hours after he is taken when she goes to check on him at the clinic after he doesn't come home. The local sheriff's office and the FBI quickly join the case giving Henry the best odds of being found. The investigation goes in a few different directions and I enjoyed following the group as they narrowed down leads. As we get closer to the end the suspense really starts to pick up and the final confrontation with the bad guys is very well done.
Cate continues to be my favorite character in this series and I've enjoyed how far she's come since Close to the Bone. Cate left the FBI after she could no longer mentally handle the toll the job took and she has been happily running a bookstore/bakery since. With Henry's kidnapping, Cate jumps headfirst into helping with the investigation which does give her a few bad moments but I liked that she was able to work through them. We don't get to spend a lot of time with Cate and Henry together due to the plot but I liked the moments we did get. I thought the ending was quite fitting for them as a couple and I really enjoyed the journey of their romance.
Overall Bone Deep was a very enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to reading the final book in the series, The Wrong Bones, soon.
Another good read
Perfect book to curl up with and to get lost in
Will have you hooked from the first page
Thanks NetGalley
Woah! Talk about a book that gave me the chills while reading. I couldn’t help but turn the pages and get lost in their world.
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
As the 9th book in this novella series, we are well acquainted with all the characters of Widow's Island so when Dr. Powers goes missing we feel for Cate who needs to find out what happened to her soon to be husband. Cate soon finds out that Henry is abducted by serial bank robbers because his doctor skills are needed to help save a brother. Will Cate and her investigative expertise help her get to Henry before the brothers decide he is no longer needed?
Kendra Elliot does it again! As soon as I see a new book of hers I pretty much stop what I'm doing to start and finish it. Her books are always a fast read because they are so hard to put down and are so well written. You feel a connection to the characters and I always have to know what happens them.
Thank you Net Galley for the e-ARC!
Kendra Elliot gives us the unexpected with Henry’s kidnapping.
This is one of the rare times that I can relate to the villain of a tale. Elliot crafts a tale that could come right out of one of today’s headlines. This is a mix of a happy-ending and a sad outcome. I think this is because of the reason given for the crimes committed. I’m not saying that what was done was right. I can understand the incorrect idea behind it.
Bone Deep is filled with action and the ups and downs of joyful news and sad happenings. Elliot kept us in our seats and glued to the pages. I loved every minute of it.
Personally I love everything I have read by Kendra Elliot. Every single book I’ve read / listened to from her has been 4 or 5 stars. She’s an autobuy/ always recommend author for me. Bone Deep was no exception. I love Widow’s Island and the citizens that call it home. I always feel so invested in happenings. Which is impressive to make happen in a short novella. I was worried right alongside Cate & plotting an escape with Henry. I love feeling connected to a book and its characters. Kendra Elliot does that for me every time. I definitely recommend this book.
Number nine in the series, this book doesn't disappoint. Henry is kidnapped and Cate will move mountains to find him with the help of Tessa and Logan. Fast moving, action packed, can't put down book, filled with family and friends. Great characters with a happy ending. Thanks to publisher and author for providing a complimentary advanced copy from NetGalley. This review is my own.
I couldn't put it down and I didn't want to. This book lived up to every ounce of hype that I had experienced for it. This book is beautifully written; a gripping storyline with strong characters. It ticked all the boxes of my expectations. I would definitely recommend it to others.
This is the 9th book in the Widow’s Island Novellas. Cate Wilde’s fiance is kidnapped and she joins forces with the FBI ad the sheriff’s department to find him. This is another stellar storyline for Kendra Elliott! I would recommend the book (and all the books in this series) as well as the author.
I think because this was a novella rather than a fully formed novel I felt a little unsatisfied. The characters didn’t seem fully developed and as a consequence I didn’t really care about them. A shame as the premise was interesting & there was suspense throughout. Not for me sadly.
This is book 9 in the Widow’s Island series by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot. Each book in the series is a novella that is around 100 pages. I do recommend reading the series due to some parts of the story lines continue in the other books. The series goes from the POV of Deputy Tessa Black, written by Melinda Leigh, and the POV of Former FBI Agent Cate Wilde, written by Kendra Elliot.
This book starts with Dr. Henry Powers, Cate’s boyfriend, being kidnapped by 2 armed men who wants him to save someone that was shot. Cate shows up later with lunch and finds his nurse bound to a chair. Se immediately call her longtime friend, Deputy Tessa Black, and the search get underway. They also get assistance from Cate’s former boss at the FBI, who sends some agents over to the island to help with the investigation.
The story switches the POV between Cate and Henry, so while the search is on, you also know what is going on with Henry. It is a fast paced read that you will not want to put down.
Thanks to Montlake for providing a copy of this book via NetGalley.
I volunteered to read and review an advanced readers copy of Bone Deep . This story takes off from the start . Dr. Henry Powers is taken by gunpoint from his practice by two mask men . Cate Henry's fiance arrives to find his nurse Julie tide to a chair . Upon finding out Henry's been taken Cate being retired FBI calls her best friend County deputy Tessa and the FBI . After they watch video footage they figure out the men are wanted for bank robbery and two murders . Cate and Tessa and the FBI follow leads trying to find Henry . Henry works to escape. This story is action packed and Suspenseful and kept me turning the pages . It's an outstanding suspense . I highly recommend taking the time to read.
I found this series when I was looking for new romantic suspense series and I am so happy I found this one. This is book 9 of the series and it did not disappoint.
This story starts with people kidnapping Henry and Cate with all of her friends/family from Widow’s Island do everything to get him back in one piece. As noted this is part of a series but you would be able to read it as a stand-alone as the author is great at giving a quick explanation as to who everyone is.
What I Loved:
- Length, this is a novella and is a quick read but a lot happens
- Henry, he is pushed a lot in this story but I appreciate throughout everything he sticks to his guns and always does what is best for his patient
- Community, Widow’s Island is a small community and everyone pitches in to help whenever it is needed
- Cate and Henry’s relationship, this is a great relationship and throughout this story their relationship is strengthened
If you like romantic suspense books that is more suspense than romance and don’t have a ton of time I would absolutely suggest you pick up this book or any in the series. I hope they continue to write more and I look forward to the future of Widow’s Island and its inhabitants.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this instalment in he Widow’s Island series.
After a bank robbery gone wrong, Dr Henry Powers is abducted from his medical practice and forced to save the life of one of the robbers who had been shot during the robbery. Taken to a remote island Henry discovers he injured man is beyond saving and his own life is now in danger. Fiancé Cate Wilde, joins forces with the local sheriff’s office and the FBI to try to locate and rescue her future husband.
This is book 9 in the series of novellas and is probably my favourite so far. I much prefer the stories focusing on Cate and this one was very fast paced and high stakes. I am now very much looking forward to carrying on with the series.
An outstanding, riveting read. I read this novel and my tablet died with the review in a saved note.
Second read of the novel was just as exciting. Page turner, edge of your seat suspense. A few unexpected twists as per usual on Widow's Island. Definitely a 5 star read!
The further this series goes, the more exciting and gripping the stories are. In Bone Deep, the 9th book in the Widow's Island series, Doctor Henry Powers is kidnapped from his clinic to tend to a man with a gunshot wound. Henry is warned that if the young man dies, so does he. Henry knows he won't be able to save him unless he can get him to a hospital, but he is told no. Trying his best, he is unable to save the youngest of the three brothers, who had recently robbed more than one bank. Cate quickly gears up and with the help of her best friend and deputy, Tessa, they are able to figure out who has Henry and eventually where he is being held. Once the victim dies, Henry knows that he must escape to save himself. Will Cate and Tessa find them in time? Who will survive?
This story once again starts off with a bang and doesn't let up. I love how Cate gets back in her FBI persona and is able to put the clues together to figure out what is happening. Tessa helps her a lot in this story, and I loved seeing them work together again. Henry is such a wonderful character and Kendra Elliot has developed the perfect doctor character in Henry. While he was trying to save the shooting victim, as well as save himself while hiding on the island, I was on the edge of my seat, rooting for him. There are many dangerous moments in this one that added to the tenseness and suspense. A wonderful addition to this series.
