Daisy has done her best to put her life back together after the disappearance of her four year old daughter, Daisy. She’s married and had another child, but she can’t stop wondering what happened to Daisy. After all, she was apparently with the child when she disappeared, but she remembers nothing. Will trying to find her first child endanger her second one? Allan keeps readers on tenterhooks, there are plenty of suspects in Daisy’s disappearance and the tension doesn’t ease until the end of the story

Wow. Claire Allan is a powerful author!

I have literally just finished reading this one and honestly want to go back to the start and read it all again, now knowing how it ends I want to know if I missed anything.

I am always really nervous with mental health representation in thrillers because it can so often be done wrong, but like in her last book The Nurse, Claire has managed to make me so so scared and yet weave all these important threads through a book. I will definitely be grabbing a copy of this for my library when it is released and I highly recommend (even though I haven't slept properly in 3 nights as I have been trying to read just one more chapter ...)

In the Dark by Claire Allan

You often read book reviews stating that a book was a page turner or unputdownable . With this book you'd better believe it because it truly is .
A mother , Nora Logue , goes into a wood with her daughter Daisy , but comes out of it alone . What happened to Daisy ? Is she alive ?
I loved the storyline to this book and it's many twists and turns which kept me guessing to the very end.
Claire Allan is a brilliant author.

I thought the prologue to this book was really enticing and by the time I had read it I was well and truly hooked. I really loved that the story was told from more than one point of view, Izzy's take on the whole Daisy Logue mystery was, as you would expect, much more objective at first and it was really great to witness how she was gradually drawn into the story and by the end was almost as desperate to find out what had happened as Nora was. My only criticism about this book was that I thought the end was a bit abrupt. I'm not a fan of the tie everything up epilogue or of new characters being introduced in the last couple.of chapters but don't let that put you off what is a really thrilling read. Claire Allan's books really do go from strength to strength.

I have read all of Claire’s books, she’s a brilliant writer.
This one is no different. This thriller also goes some way towards addressing some moral issues too.
Nora is well known in her town. Her daughter disappeared during a walk in the woods and Nora still has no memory of the events that took place.
She’s now got a son with with a new partner but suddenly she’s getting threats that she will lose him too.
Is it because she’s making a documentary about her daughter? Are the producers who they say they are? And who is really behind the posts on the forum?
Who would you save? Your daughter or your son? Who means more? Is your daughter alive? What would you do?
This is a gripping story. I really liked the different characters that were introduced and how each of them were potentially a threat and an unreliable source.
It will keep you guessing until the end.

Nora is a damaged woman and she has had a lot happen to her to make her so. Izzy is a documentary film maker very interested to tel Nora’s story.

When Nora agrees to have her story told it unfolds for the reader both from the perspective of Nora and Izzy and it is told in the present as well as snippets from Nora’s past. What she can remember of it.

Nora’s four year old daughter Daisy disappeared from the woods seven years ago while she was playing with her Mom Nora. Since then Nora’s life has been hell. Nora doesn’t know if Daisy is alive or dead. In fact, Nora doesn’t remember anything about her daughter’s disappearance. Which is part of but not all of Nora’s ongoing struggles.

Izzy wants to get to the bottom of this famous and unforgettable case. And she has plenty of sources who believe that Nora is the very devil herself. What woman doesn’t remember who or how her own child became “lost”? The public has a lot to say about this and some of it is downright chilling.

As the documentary gets rolling, Nora becomes centre stage once more and although she has remarried and has had another child, new husband Brendan is not happy to have their son Luca put in the spotlight for being the son of the infamous Nora Logue. In fact, Nora is soon faced with a choice. Stop looking into what happened to Daisy or risk losing both children. An impossible and heartbreaking choice for ANY mother.

As the cameras roll Izzy is capturing everything but is she a neutral party or is she finding herself being drawn into Nora’s life a bit too much?

After all, Nora herself admits how could she not know what happened to her own daughter that day?

Having enjoyed all of Claire Allen’s novels, this one will pull on your heartstrings, keep you guessing and feel as though you are Nora with your sanity held together with the most delicate of strings. Well worth the read.

This was brilliant, I really enjoyed The Nurse, so I had high hopes for this too. I really like Claire's style of writing - fast paced but doesn't allow me to race on and skim read as sometimes can happen!
The characters were great, Nora's character was really well rounded, and I spent the whole time trying to figure her out. Each time I thought I had her figured out, another curve ball! I loved the way the story is told from both Nora and Izzy, the documentary director's point of view. Izzy was great too - another well-formed character who I believed and trusted for the duration.
Overall, a great psychological thriller!

This book was absolutely brilliant! I am a huge fan of Claire Allan's work so was very excited to get accepted for this on netgalley. It follows Nora in the aftermath of her daughter going missing and her remarrying and having another child, but always with Daisy on her mind. The characters were all ok, not particularly likeable but also not hideous, with the exception of 1 or 2! I was surprised at the twists and didn't see them coming....which is quite a tough thing to do with thrillers nowadays! I can't wait to read more and more from this wonderful author ❤️

I enjoyed this book by Claire Allan so much and was absolutely drawn in by the unreliable character that is the mother. What does she know? Does she truly not remember what happened to her daughter? Or is she hiding a huge secret? I loved the POVs between Nora, the grieving and bewildered mother, as well as getting to know Izzy and her point of view as they filmed the documentary. Well done!

At first I found this hard to get into as none of the characters felt fully-rounded enough to become attached to them. However, the plot was excellent, really engrossing and will definitely keep you reading. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was behind everything and along the way suspecting everyone! A good thrilling read.

It’s every parent’s nightmare and for Nora Logue, it’s a reality that she’s been living for seven years. That’s when her daughter Daisy disappeared after a walk in the woods turns sinister. Only Nora left the woods, with no memory as to what happened, or where her daughter was. Since then, she’s met a new man and had a little boy, Luca. But of course, news about Daisy’s whereabouts remains ever present, so much so that she’s unable to function properly. When she agrees to cooperate in a documentary (the crew see Baftas lining up, their duty of care to a vulnerable mother sadly missing), Nora hopes to raise someone’s memory… but will doing so risk her son’s life and her own? She cannot let go of Daisy, much to the unhappiness of her new partner, but what is someone out there knows something? This is a great, layered read where you’re not sure it’s doing, neatly nuanced with shades of emotion that’ll make you think deeply about your own loved ones.

Probably my favourite Claire Allen book so far! Beautifully evocative and atmospheric bringing the characters of both Nora and Izzy to life and making the reader connect with both of them equally. A heart wrenching, compelling and emotional storyline with a perfect balance between the points of view of all the characters-I was gripped from start to finish.

Claire Allan does it again!
We follow the mother Nora and her story. First the horror of loosing her child, the living nightmare of not knowing what happened. Who can she trust?
I changed my mind several times and really was kept on the edge of my seat.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
This really is something different and certainly not what i expected.
Easy 5 star rating.

OH MY WORD....WHAT A BOOK!!!!!

As an avid reader I can honestly say that this is one of the best thrillers I have ever read.

Did Nora Logue kill her daughter? Is Daisy Logue even dead? So many questions that keep the reader guessing right to the end of the book.
A total page turner....I couldn't put this down.
(Great ending too)

An absolute thriller by #claireallan
