Very quick read. The art is really good. Since this was the first chapter I can't say much.
The female main character gives me Violet Evergarden vibes, but when she was in the military.
I can't really rate 1 chapter though, due to it being so short.
I’m a big manga guy, and I’ve seen so many western comics attempt to make works that borrow from the style with varying degrees of success over the years. Usually this sort of thing is pretty bad, relying on tropes and cultural aspects of the anime fandom for inspiration. It takes a special sort of comic to actually capture the proverbial lightning in the bottle that is the overall style of manga, and by all accounts the subject of this review is one of the better ones I’ve seen. Oneira – Part 1 – Crimson Moon by Cab & Federica Di Meo is a new fantasy comic series from Europe Comics, and so far I am impressed.
First and foremost, Federica De Meo’s artwork here is awesome. You can easily tell that she is inspired by 1990’s action and horror manga. Upon further research, I learned that she actually studied in Japan and was one of the first in Italy to use classic manga techniques. I have no idea if her artwork is digital or by hand, but she creates panels that are VERY reminiscent of Kentaro Miura’s Berserk at times, which is a great accolade. The story even preserves the Japanese manga format of having text bubbles and actions go from right to left, a quirk of Japanese comics that exists due to Japanese being printed in the opposite manner as most western languages. For all intents and purposes, this IS a manga to me in both form and substance rather than just being a western comic that pulls inspiration from Japanese artists. The book’s author, simply known as Cab, also holds a lot of his inspiration from Japanese manga, and I feel like he also has a good feel for how those stories are crafted.
It’s hard to rate this fully considering this is merely the first chapter in what is slated as a five issue series. What we do have is a solid introduction to the world and the monsters that inhabit it as well as our heroine Arane Heos a.k.a The Banshee. Much more than a lot of fantasy comics, this book has an insane amount of potential right off the bat, and I definitely plan to read more when I can. If the website for Europe Comics is any indication, the price for every issue of this is VERY reasonable at just $0.75 an issue! That’s an absolute steal if you ask me! Stay tuned, as this is something I will keep reading!
Well, that was interresting, but I regret not having the full book to judge thé quality of the story. The drawing is good tgough, and the MC intriguing but with a Dark fantasy sitting, I need a little More to be convinced
I found this book interesting, but for my taste little bit short. I really liked an illustration of a main character (she is so gorgeous!). Some parts of the graphic novel were quite messy and I lost myself. It is hard to tell more about the book because I read only the first chapter.
I would appreciate more description or introduction to the story. And I would love coloured illustrations (I know it is more expensive but it can help readers with an orientation). Based only on this chapter it did not catch me enough to bring me to want more. That is the reason why I give it only three stars.
I am a huge manga/graphic novel fan and As hard as it is to get a feel of a comic or graphic novel from one chapter I must say this is gripping, the artwork is beautiful, the characters intriguing and the first chapter really grabs the reader and makes them want to continue! I will certainly be checking this out further !
Once again, I went too fast because I was eager to read the title and did not see this was just the first chapter. So sad.
It's a good start. Lots of violence and blood though so be aware. There seems to be a lot of mystery around the main character and I can't wait to get to know her. Men, most of them at least, are useless, cruel and very stupid in this first chapter.
I'm looking forward to reading what happens next.
Chapter 1/5
This was an interesting read despite my lack of understanding of what was happening. I enjoyed the unique panelling style during the fight sequence and I was intrigued by the characters and will be reading the rest to find out what is actually going on
The art was beautiful and the panelling really well done.
I can’t really say a lot about the story because it was only the first few chapters
But it was definitely enough for me to want to read more.
Thank you Netgalley for the arc.
The art was amazing !!!!! The way the artist did in paneling... That was a good job. Really really love it
Thank you Netgalley for an arc of this book.
It is an interesting introduction to a character that seems really cool. She seems really awesome and an incredible fighter.
There is not enough information about the world and this is something I actually missed. Quite curious for the next volume.
Thank you do much to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this eARC of this book.
This is a very short eventful first book in the series I did like it though and would read more although they were a little too short for my liking in general. The art style was great and very dynamic which was cool I have not read anything from this author before but I would read more of their work in the future. I loved the main character she is badass.
It’s really difficult for me to write this review both because I am not an expert in graphic novels and because it’s not the full volume but only the first chapter (1 of 5).
So I can express my opinion on the art style that I liked.
While for what little I have read about the plot, it intrigued me and attracted me to read the rest
I would like to preface my review with the fact that I can't make too many assumptions since this on the first CHAPTER, not VOLUME but I can say that I am hooked on what we've been introduced to thus far. The cover, the blurb and the artwork are stunning but at least in my opinion the cover at first glance gave me more of a futuristic science-based ideal so I was a little confused when I started it but looking back after reading the chapter I see the connections better. The art style fits the genre but I am a little disappointed at the document's quality as you can see the literal grains on each page. The choice to include a fight scene at the beginning showing what happens to characters that underestimate the protagonist was a fun choice and I especially liked the ending with her being called 'banshee'. As far as I am aware a banshee is a female spirit in Irish folklore who acts like a grim reaper to herald death by shrieking which I think is potentially a parallel to when she murders and leaves them shrieking/wailing before their own deaths. Overall this was a cool read and I'm interested in reading the rest of the volume when it is released.

Being only the first chapter of the first issue of the comic, I certainly cannot express myself on the story, but only on the first impressions that what I had reading it.
The drawings are very detailed and above all the protagonist is made in a magnificent way. She vaguely reminded me of a Lady Oscar with a slight mix of Erza (Fairy Tail) and I have to say that she seems like a character who really conveys a lot of strength and definitely has a difficult past.
The battle that is shown to us was done very well, and surely if I could have read more I could have appreciated the artist's drawings more.
Too bad that the quality of this demo is not up to the drawings, as it is all grainy and pixelated.
It might also be interesting to see color plates (or the entire comic) made by this artist.
Not knowing much about the protagonist, that nickname of her "Banshee" seems a bit strange to me. In fact, the banshee is a spirit that does not kill, but that simply announced the person's death with her cries.
Who knows why it was chosen.
I'd be curious to read more.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this introductive chapter.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
I want to preface this by stating that this is only the first CHAPTER of Oneria. Not volume, CHAPTER. It's a bit difficult to truly rate a story when you only can read one chapter of it. What little I did get to read, I was interested in. The art style is fairly unique, and the action scenes are decent. This chapter is VERY gory and bloody. It doesn't bother me, but it may bother others. Arane Heos, our main character, appears to be an interesting character. An aloof and powerful woman, who is highly skilled in combat. Again, it's one chapter, so it's very hard to judge. The vibe of this comic has the same vibes as the Castlevania anime, right down to the gore. The one thing about this comic that originally drew me in was the cover art. The cover art is absolutely gorgeous, I would hang it in my home with my other art pieces. I could gush over that cover for hours. My interest is piqued in this comic and its story, from the tidbit I saw. I may try to seek it out in the future.
I always stan a badass woman !!! And the art style is absolutely gorgeous !!! I also love how we were immediately thrown intp the thick of if; it left me captivated and desperate for more !!! Ill be excitedly awaiting the next part !!!
Was that… it? The barest hint of intrigue to come, and 90% of it is a 6-on-1 fight scene which, while pretty epic, doesn’t provide much meat for the overall story. It doesn’t even touch on the story hinted at in the synopsis about a daughter and a conspiracy… all it does is establish Arane as a badass swordswoman.
I think I need more before I can say one way or another if it’s good or not. I like the character design, though I think the art would shine more in full color.
