I finished this book in one day!
First off, I was very curious how the cover of the book with Ryan wearing a kilt would come into play. I haven’t read the first two books of this series (I will be correcting that ASAP) so not sure if that should have been known already, but I was not disappointed when we discovered when he finds time as a Crowder fireman to wear a kilt with his friends. I have always wanted to see the Highland Games. (I’m excited to see that at the end of the story Susannah teased a Gareth and Casey story)
Now to the story: Ryan and Maggie were perfect for each other. Ryan was relentless in trying to become friends with Maggie, and even though she denied it, in the end it was what she needed. When they both finally admitted their attraction, Ryan did not disappoint! He certainly knew how to articulate all his plans for Maggie in the most delicious way! They obviously had some ups and downs but following along with their love story was worth every second!
Thank you @netgalley for the arc!

🔥Scene: Maggie’s kitchen
Even if you are not a high paid corporate consultant or studly firefighter, the story of Maggie and Ryan is relatable, palpable, and heart filled. Readers who are drawn to family series will enjoy this third installment of the King Family Series, but readers can jump into the series at any point and not miss.a beat. The steam level is probably 3.5 out of 5, and the author nicely provides some content warnings at the beginning. Best read with a pint (or two) of ice cream, obviously.
This was an easy and enjoyable read. I liked the characters were older and I found them to be relatable. I thought this was a cute and I loved the ending! Also, I appreciated that the author included a content warning at the beginning of the book. Looking forward to reading Nate and Sunny’s story!
Look for 'Pint of Contention' by Susannah Nix, September 13, 2022!
Thank you to NetGalley for this arc!
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this before publication!
This is a really cute romance, but also deals with some really heavy themes, which adds a little more drama.
The romance is slow burn, which I love, but I know it can be irritating for some.
The characters are really well written, and some of my favourite tropes are in here!
Overall, a great read.
Love this series so much. This book was also great and I’m super excited for book 4! Ryan and Maggie were so sweet together. I love that they are 39 & 45 and both tall. Hot power couple!
Third in an ongoing series about the numerous siblings of a prominent Texas family, Pint of Contention is an incredibly charming love story. Maggie, a mid-40's freelance corporate consultant, comes to the small Texas town of Crowder to oversee the restructuring of King's Creamery, the ice cream business that essentially keeps this small town afloat. Maggie's intimidating presence always signals trouble for a major business, even though she works hard to protect as many jobs as she can, and due to the negative attention she attracts wherever she goes for work she's learned to close herself off from forming connections. Then she gets an eyeful of the extremely hot firefighter neighbor at the house she's renting. Ryan (on the cusp of 40) is tall, beefy, kind, friendly, protective, generous, and since learning about a potentially catastrophic health issue a few years earlier he's closed himself off from love. When Maggie's true reason for being in town is revealed and the public reacts badly, Ryan swoops in to protect her. They decide that pretending to be a couple is the best way to keep her safe... but can they continue to protect their own hearts while putting on a good show for the town?
Tropes: guy/girl next door, forced proximity, fake dating, grumpy/sunshine.
Much appreciation to the author for including a content warning at the beginning of the book.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC of 'Pint of Contention' by Susannah Nix.
I really loved this read, it did feature a whole lump of smut which was a tad bit awkward for me but I'm okay with that.
Maggie was an amazing protagonist, I loved every single thing about her. From her kindness to her work either, I felt myself rooting for Maggie the entire book. Her love interest Ryan went through a lot in this book but he was also such a well written character.
Honestly, I just really liked this book.
Having not read this previous books in the series, this is an excellent read. The previous books do not have to be read in order to understand this novel. I really enjoyed the two characters. I feel like Maggie didn't have much of a backstory at all compared to Ryan. However, since Ryan's family is what connects the series, its okay. I like that Maggie is a boss and doesn't back down when faced with issues. I enjoyed seeing how she and Ryan leaned on each other and grew as people throughout the novel. Certainly spicer then I expected from the front of the novel, but very well written (3.5/5 for spice). Highly recommend for a quick and easy, lighthearted read.
I loved reading this book. I think this one is my favorite one in the series.
I love love Ryan. Boyfriend goals.
I am little on diffence on Maggie, but I love how she stick to her guns.
This is not is much more than just a romance novel.
4 stars read
I read this book before I got it from Netgalley.
But thanks anyway.
Pint of Contention is a girl/guy-next-door romance about two people who have ruled out relationships falling for each other. Maggie and Ryan are given a mid-life chance at love-- but only if they will be brave enough to take it! Please check trigger warnings before reading! When Maggie's consulting agency transfers her to small-town Texas, she is ready to take on the job. What she didn't expect was a hulking next-door neighbor with a kind heart. When Maggie's role in town is revealed and she becomes a pariah, Ryan looks after her in a way nobody has for a while. The only problem? They don't do relationships, Read on to find out if these two can make it work, or if the fling is just that.

Spice- 🌶 🌶 🌶
Series- King’s Family Creamery #3
Troupes/Rep- neighbors to lovers, protective ginger hero, Amazon couple, forced proximity, ALS, Firefighter, grumpy sunshine, fake dating, kilt (that’s all that needs to be said)
CW-death of a estranged parent, struggles with mortality and ALS
I love Susannah’s story telling and character development she keeps introducing new quirks and motivations into them making them relatable and real but also interesting and fun to read while also maintaining their flaws.
This book has an authors note at the start that needs to be read. This Story has some heavy topics that could be triggering, but it is also still a romance and has a guaranteed HEA.
Maggie and Ryan are both on the struggle bus when it come to love and life. And when poorly timed and researched article about her gets to the masses of Crowder, TX, Maggie’s life gets even harder. Beloved firefighter Ryan is a born protecter he won’t stand to see his new neighbor be harassed, so there’s only one solution, fake dating. Which is no hardship for either of them.
Susannah delivers on the slow burn steam factor with this one! Honestly there are some very sexy thing happening but the door also gets slammed a few time.
To that I say Susannah! Where’s the rest of my spicy scenes?
Susannah throws is hard and long with this one (Get it?) and I loved every word of this book. Can not wait for Nate and Sunny’s story!
Thank you Netgalley and Susannah Nix for this early chance to read and review this book.
