I am not sure I have ever read such a beautiful story. Tom has lost his mum and she cannot come back so we know there has been a death in the family, when Tom hugs the hills surrounding his home, he wakes the giant sleeping beneath them.
Abe, the giant, is missing his mum and the pair form an instant friendship and search for Abe’s mum. They are gone for a long time and when they arrive back home, she is there waiting. Tom helps Abe to know the even when you are missing someone, you have them in your heart. You are never alone with love in your heart.
Heartwarming, beautiful and a perfect antidote to a bad day.
This would make for a wonderful book to share with a child who has suffered a recent loss,

This beautifully illustrated book tells the story of Tom and Abe who have both lost their mothers. Tom bravely helps Abe, a young giant to search the world for his mother and teaches him that when people we love are gone we can find them again in our hearts. The lyrical rhyming text moves the story on at a gentle pace as Abe is reunited with his mum and Tom returns home to family who love him.

A picture book - hard to judge on screen, the artwork looks very good throughout, a sense of the characters, seasons and different landscape.

The story is written well, text a little clinky in places but 'scans' and rhymes, and tells a good story of a boy who has had his own loss helping another search and move through emotions, and helping himself to move forward.

This is a lovely looking picture book, the illustrations are magical, whimsical and playful, while remaining soft, so even though colours are used, they are not screaming off the pages, they blend into one another very nicely. the characters are drawn in a cartoonish way, making them very likeable.

The story rhymes and that makes it a very easy read. lovely for younger children that are still learning the flow of language and have a lot of new words to learn, as the words are being guided by these beautiful illustrations.

I would love to get my hand on a hardcover of this book, however as I ordered quite a few books in the last few days, I’m going to have to wait for a while longer for this one!

With stunning illustrations and a rhyming structure, this is one children will ask for again and again. A story of friendship and hope between two unlikely friends.

The Heart of a Giant by Hollie Hughes

This children's book is a magical adventure showing the friendship between a little boy and a giant.

As Tom and his giant friend Abe search for Abe's Mammy they travel and meet new friends.

This has a lovely story,  rhyming text which make the story even more enjoyable and really nice illustrations that are eye-catching too.

Thank you to the author,  Bloomsbury children's books and netgalley for my eARC of this book. It is released on October 13th.

Gorgeously written by Hollie Hughes, and with exquisite illustrations from Anna Wilson The Heart of A Giant is a captivating tale.

Tom is missing his mam, described as having 'gone away.' The hills that surrond him are always there, and that is where he always walks - the very place where legend claims that giants sleep.

One day he awakens a sleeping giant, Abe, who is missing his Mammy Giant. With wonderful rhyme and rhythm a story of friendship and hope unfolds as the two unlikely friends search, together.

The Heart of A Giant is an atmospheric book about friendship, family and love.
