Good Night (Not Really) is a cute little bedtime story that my grandson really liked. Lisa and Charlie snuggle into bed with their toys for a good night story, but they aren't quite ready to go to sleep. The book begins to count to ten to sleepy town, filled with fun animals and wild antics, even getting a few numbers confused. Once getting to ten, the story counts backwards in a countdown. I loved the illustrations, they are colourful and full of fun details. There are so many characters that the illustrations added much to the story, and were the favourite part of the book. The text was interesting, with different fonts and sizes, but some of the word selections were a bit questionable detracting from the story at times. Overall, this was a fun bedtime story that held my grandson's attention, but I had to convince him it was time to go to sleep.
Good Night (Not really) by Nan Evenson is a very cute children’s book. The book brings to children humor and colorful illustration. Just a funny book.
This is a delightful up-beat clever book that kids will love. The diverse characters are adorable and they bring the concept of counting forward and backward to life and fun!
I love the playful language used throughout and the bright colourful detailed illustrations. I also love the element of surprise that is offered at the end of the book and I know that kids will it too.
I highly recommend this refreshing and quirky counting book.
Have you got one of those children who you tell them Good Night and they are like one more story or the classic I'm not ready for Bed yet cry? This fun book by Nan Evenson is the perfect bedtime story for children aged 3-6 years old. It is also a great book to learn how to count forwards and backward from 10. In Good Night (Not Really), our two children aren't quite ready to drift off into sleepy land and so the book begins in a fun countdown to sleepy town filled with fun animals and wild antics, even getting a few numbers confused. The illustrations in this book are so gorgeous and perfect if you're on the lookout for a counting book for your child or the simple fact that your child loves animals. I can't wait to be a mum myself, as picture books these days are just so wonderful and attractive with beautiful illustrations, and with Christmas coming up around the corner, this is the perfect book for children.
This book is one of the reasons why I want to be an author of this genre. You don't really have to think about the story to much. Its like automatic writing, another person is telling the story and all you need to do is write it. This book is so sweet and cute. A very fun book. I love the idea of a good night book turning into a good morning book.
The illustrations are just beautiful. I think the children would have fun reading this book.
I received a free copy of the book and is voluntarily writing a review
This is a very clever way to teach a young child to count forwards and backwards. It is nice enough to not get annoyed after reading it 20 times a day, thanks to the silliness of the book. Also it REALLY isn’t a good night story book. I mean, you could? but I think it would make the child you a reading to more excited than sleepy. The Illustrations are nice enough, but overall I’m not really blown away by this book.
The illustrations are truly stunning and the best feature of this book! The art is exuberantly colorful and full of fun details for readers to find. There's such a wild variety of characters that kids will be enthralled.
The text is fanciful and silly, but it stumbles in some points. I love the inclusion of big, expressive words, but "marchy" is awkward and why is the book described as "big and bad"? Still, this is very cute and definitely worth a try for toddlers and pre-K kids as an amusing way to sneak in some counting practice.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Super cute illustrations! but I’m not sure I enjoyed the book very much. It has counting in it which is informative but found the story a bit messy and the comic sans font off putting. Sorry not for me!
What a cute book to read at any time of the day. It's set up like a bedtime read with the kids in the story counting up from 1 including different animals in silly scenarios. The illustrations were fun, the story was cute and the kids did not want to go to bed after reading this fun story!
There is so much to love about this book.
The writing is fun and lively sure to keep children's attention. The images are beyond cute, my favorite being the tutu broccoli.
The children will learn to count forwardsand backwards which is rather unique for counting books.
Lastly I never thought of a good morning book to start the day. It's a great idea and one I'm implementing
Called “Good Night (Not Really)”, this is actually a counting book where we go from one to ten and back again, and never really get to consider having a good night and going to sleep, even if a bed and cleaning of teeth are mentioned early on. Unfortunately, in having the wrong kind of wacky humour (the kind that tries to leave out 8 when we’ve had 7, and tries to get us to call gardening equipment “marchy” when it’s on the move), it’s not really an endearing one. I guess the daft and unusual are ways to get things to stand out and therefore to be remembered, but I prefer certain other ways first. It’s not horrendously flawed, but I can’t say I would favour it over the great bulk of number revisers I get to see.
Good Night (Not Really) was a beyond cute with fantastic illustrations. Kept mine and the littles attention with the counting and laughing with its humor. This was hard to read as an electric copy, the pages and reading was jumbled on the screen.
Thank you netgalley and Bumblebee Books for this eARC
