Seagulls Don't Eat Sorbet introduces us to five seagull siblings. The chicks are ready to leave the nest and do on their own adventures. They spend the day at the amusement park dancing, seeing the sight and of course eating. When two of them get stuck in the arcade, they have to rescue them, but how? This is a cute story about independence, listening to your parents, helping one another and having fun. I read this to my grandchildren and they thought it was a lot of fun. I had a few issues, such as the fact that these birds didn't look much like seagulls to me, more like pigeons. The book is set in the UK, but some words were definitely from the US. Also the chicks were personified in ways that rubbed me the wrong way a bit. Having said all that, my grandkids didn't notice any of those things and thought the book was a lot of fun and that is what matters.

" This would be the chicks' first adventure on their own".
Today was the day that the chicks were permitted to go on their own to explore Blackpool. As the chicks flew away, mother bird fired off some instructions.
"Don't go under the pier [...] be careful what you eat".
And of course, the first thought for the chicks, were to find something to eat.
I enjoyed the many places that the chicks visited. Some places were Madam Tussaunds and introduced the sight that makes England an incredibly country to visit.
Wait a minute, in America chips are in colorful bags and are eaten with a sandwich. In England, chips are French fries. The chicks' adventures were fun, and a great source of education, thus making the book perfect for a classroom library.
" We had a great day".

This is quite the adventure to read along with. The illustrations are vibrant and really showcases all the things the pigeons observe.
My six year old thought it was cute too!

Seagulls Don't Eat Sorbet by Babs Vinden-Cantrell is such a delightful read.

Five Seagull chicks head out on their first adventure without their mums. They each have their own ideas of where they should go and what they should see, but first and foremost they all want to have fun. They head out all over town sight-seeing and enjoying all the lights, commotion, and food.

This book is super adorable. I enjoyed the fun illustrations and the all-around fun throughout.

This one is perfect for kids who love the Wonder Pets and the like. I loved the bright lights and fanfare of the amuse park and the pier with all of their colors and excitement, but the real treat and joy in this story is that of young friendship and new adventures, even though, as we realize, sometimes it's not so easy being away from the parents and community that keeps us safe all the time. This one is an absolute joy!

I had pretty high hopes for this book but I didn’t love the story line and that the chicks blatantly ignored their mums. I’m not sure it’s one I would read to my children.

A story about some chicks who venture out to see the world. I didn't love the illustrations here and the story wasn't for me.

I'm a bit.. perplexed by this.

It is titled "Seagulls", yet there are no seagulls. You could never convince me the birds illustrated here are seagulls.
And at some point, the birds were... sexualized?

Idk. I t really rubbed me off the wrong way.

Seagulls Don't Eat Sorbet follows the adventurous day of five seagull friends. The seagull chicks are having a great time dancing, eating and seeing the sights, until two of them get trapped in the arcade. The remaining chicks mount a rescue mission and recruit help from some unlikely heroes.

I read this book to my six year old kiddo, and he highly enjoyed the seagulls' antics, especially when the seagulls fell over while they were stacked on top of each other. He was laughing so hard we had to take a break from reading until he caught his breath. Once we finished, he immediately asked to read the story again. For that, we rate Seagulls Don't Eat Sorbet five stars.

Surprisingly sorbet-free, this features five young seagull chicks who want the best time of their lives on a day away from their parents’ tram stop. Yup, Blackpool calls, as does lots of human food, taking the mickey out of the way we walk, and, er, dancing along to Beyonce and “Bring me Sunshine”. What starts out as just a few snappy lines in the corner of the page develops into an overly-wordy piece, and none of it will really make you care which chick is which, even if the drama of their escapade is perfectly OK. All in all, a bit too naively done, both in script and illustration, for me to recommend.

The pigeons were cute. Don't really understand the point of the moms telling the kids to watch out since they were fine? the seagull that was supposed to be suave and good looking wasn't, that's not me saying I was expecting hot seagulls, the text said he was. It was alright, No one ever mentioned sorbet at all? Eh. It was a lot of nothin

Seagulls Don't Eat Sorbet by Babs Vinden-Cantrell is a delightfully charming story about five seagull chicks who are ready to leave their mothers in search of a new adventure. Excited by the lights and sounds of an amusement arcade on the pier, the little chicks find more excitement than they bargained for when Chase and Edge become trapped, and it is up to Seb, Petal and Romiley to enlist some misfit gulls into a rescue mission.

Readers young and old will delight in this story of adventure and finding one's own independence.
