This is the story of Emily mum of 1 year old Bonnie and wife of Simon Unknown to Emily Simon was already engaged to someone else when she met him. All three are teachers at the same school. Strange things start happening to Emily at home. She has the feeling that she is being watched and then her cat goes missing. Emily is also concerned that Simon might be having an affair so Simon thinks Emily is just being paranoid.
For me this was a book of two halves. I really loved the first half. It started quite creepy and stalkerish which didn’t last too long unfortunately. I really love stalker books and was hoping for more. I was still intrigued by the story. The second half was told from another POV and that didn’t interest me quite as much.
This is a really atmospheric novel with a cleverly written plot and characters. The prologue drew me in from the very start and the relationship between Emily and Anna kept me reading until the end.
A really good domestic thriller.
I loved the premise at the start of the book, the way it was written and told in such a way it was like a movie scene. It really drew me in. I enjoyed the book and it was a very easy quick read, though it wasn't hard to figure out who Anna was and the more I read the more I disliked her. But I disliked Emily more as time went on, she was just so gullible at times and never seen the way Anna was manipulating and deceiving her. Plus she was clueless about her husband too.
The ending was a bit too predictable and rather cliched. But overall an entertaining read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster UK for the ARC in return for the honest review.
This is a psychological thriller that focuses on Emily, a teacher with a 1 year old daughter and a husband who she thinks is being unfaithful.
This book isn’t quite as gripping as others in it’s genre and falls flat with predictability and a huge cliff hanger at the end.
Not for me.
Fairly fast-paced psychological thriller.
An easy read. This is perfect if you’re looking for a light thriller that won’t tax your mind or your time too much. While there’s nothing to really make this books stand out from the crowd, it’s a good example of its type.
This was a good read, main character seems to have it all in life but someone is watching and they want what she has, who can she trust especially when she allready seems to suffer from paranoia. to begin with…. Read it you won’t be disappointed .
This is a good book but it won’t be memorable. I have read many similar stories in this genre and this made it very predictable. It will be a great book for someone new to the domestic noir genre.
I found it quite a predictable storyline. I could tell where it was heading fairly early on which caused me to lose interest at times. However, the ending was a huge cliff-hanger and I really want to know what happens next 😅 I really can’t make up my mind as to whether I think Emily calls an ambulance or not so I do hope there is a sequel I can follow up with!
Creeping Vein Of Tension.,,
Unreliable relationships abound in this menacing suspense with a creeping vein of tension. Emily has it all, or so it seems, but is someone watching her? Is someone looking to take it all away and have it all for themselves? Or, is there an unstable paranoia to be addressed? With a potentially unreliable narrator, a well drawn cast of characters and an immersive storyline this is an unpredictable domestic suspense with twists and turns aplenty.
This sadly wasn't for me. Its a decent enough domestic noir but It just left me feeling like it's the same book I've read a dozen times already. It's very predictable and it's quite obvious very early on what the connection between the main characters is. There's some massive plot holes like how a scar made at age 3 can be enough to identify someone 30 years later?! Or who poisoned the cat or how we got the cat in the 1st place. I did start to speed read so maybe I just missed the explanation for those parts but it just didn't add up. It's very slow paced which will suit those who like that slow burn and the build up of tension. The characters are well written, idiots but we'll written idiots lol. I also found the epilogue a bit strange where the narration switches to this kind of voice over which was just a stark contrast from the narrative of the rest of the book so felt a bit out of place. It's not a bad book but it just might not suit those who have read a lot of domestic noirs since its all quite clichéd and reads the same as a lot of other books. If you're new to the genre though then you'd pro ably enjoy it a lot more and possibly not find is as predictable as I did
I read this in one sitting, I couldn't put it down, it was utterly gripping. Creepy, chilling and unpredictable it had me on the edge of my seat.
I absolutely love Susan Elliot Wright's novels and so was thrilled to have the opportunity to read this advance copy. All You Ever Wanted is a change of genre for the author as it's more of a psychological thriller and it took me a while to get used to the author writing in this genre. Emily is a thirty something teacher, struggling with balancing working part time. looking after her 1 year old daughter Bonnie and living with a growing sense of paranoia regarding both her husband's fidelity and a sense of being watched. She has a challenging relationship with her adoptive mother and has felt increasingly isolated from her old friends since marrying her husband Simon. When Anna comes into her life she appears to be just what Emily needs - a friend and someone to support her with childcare.
I found this to be a gripping and compelling read and I was intrigued to find out if Emily was a reliable narrator. As with all of the author's work it's well written and it's a well paced thriller. I do prefer the author's previous work but this is still a strong addition to this genre and I'd recommend it.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.
