This is a good book about home and what it means to different people. It is an interesting read as each contributor sees home differently, in differing ways, through different eyes. It makes you think of how you see 'Home'.
An interesting mix of poetry, essays and some longer pieces of writing it is a good mix of views and cultures, the times in which the writer is speaking of. It is a good read, very interesting and a good insight into the word and meaning of 'HOME'.
This is a solid collection of work on the subject of home and what it means. The authors are not talking about making picture-perfect houses, but about what it means to feel like one is home. In the excerpt from a longer work by Hermann Hesse that is included, he states, 'Home is neither here nor there. Home is within you, or home is nowhere at all.' As someone who has moved a fair bit throughout my life, especially in the last decade, I can relate. I have never had a sense of home in any one physical place. People talk about 'going home,'but I don't have anywhere that I think of as home, besides the place where I am making my home at that particular moment. This has been more frequent since I've lived in Ireland, especially around Christmas. Every year I'm asked if I'm going home (or went home) for Christmas. I always reply that I am home. Many of the pieces in the book resonated with me for that reason.
The book contains poems, essays, and excerpts from longer works. The oldest work is from Homer and the newest work is by someone born in 2000. The introduction was well written and informative. This is a collection well worth reading if you're at all curious about what the idea of home means to people across time and cultures.
