Loved this story of Amber the laundry maid who gets seduced by her master and falls in love with him to find herself pregnant and the lordship tells get to get rid as his wife is also pregnant, determined not to accept any help and to have her baby and give it away so she can return to a normal life, she faces some struggles along the way.
Her master promises to find the baby a loving home little did she know at the time that the home was his own and passed her baby off as his wife's twin, Amber trys to carry on with life getting whatever job she could find to help her mam as they recently lost father and two brothers on a fishing vessel owned again by her previous master.
Fate finds Amber returning to greenacres to the job of a nanny to his wife's twins and suddenly realises that the girl is her daughter, while the wife shows no interest at all in her children their father dotes on them as does Amber.
Loved the storyline and the characters were all lovely, couldn't put this book down, highly recommend
One of the things that drew me to this book was the fact that it was set mainly on the east coast of Yorkshire. I found it an okay read but to be honest I thought it was a bit like the series that I use to read many years ago in the weekly magazines. I know it's fiction but I found that some of Amber's decisions were quite unbelievable. That's my opinion but I expect a lot of people will read it and enjoy it but not really for me, sorry.
While working at Greenacres, Amber Ainsley has an affair with her boss, Barnaby Greenwood. The affair ends when Amber discovers she is pregnant and Barnaby orders her out.
Amber flees to Whitby where she stays with her uncle and gives birth to a little girl, that Barnaby has agreed to find a family for.
At Greenacres, Barnaby's unhappy wife Louisa, gives birth on the same night. She has no desire for children, or for Barnaby as it happens.
Following a family tragedy, bereft Amber has no choice but to return to Greenacres to work. Here she makes a shocking discovery that changes the course of her future.
As Louisa descends into ill health, it is not only Amber's future that falls onto a completely different path.
I enjoyed A Season for Hope, though I did find it frustrating at times. I felt Amber too stubborn for her own good at times!
I have read all of Rosie Goodwin’s books, and I have to say that this is easily among the best.
It’s such a touching story, focusing this time more on the sweetness of people than the violence that we find in life – though of course all her heroines meet with violence at sometime, and this one is no exception.
But I really felt that this one was more emotive than some of her others. It was an excellent read and I could not put it down.
Amber while working as a laundry maid becomes pregnant by Barnaby Greenwood. He sent her away. She ends up at the home of her uncle where she gives birth to a baby girl. Barnaby supposedly gives the baby up to a foster home. When Amber is once again working at the Greenwood home she finds out that he has deceived her all along.
Another great book by Rosie Goodwin, I loved this book, I couldn’t put it down. It tells the story of Amber a laundry maid to Barnaby Greenwood, they have an affair and amber gets pregnant but Barnaby is married to Louisa, all Barnaby wants is a child, but he can’t have Ambers child. Amber struggles with having a baby out of wedlock and Barnaby offers to find the child a loving home. But things aren’t quite as they seem, struggles and heartache follows them. A fantastic book and we’ll deserved 5 stars.
Firstly thank you Netgalley for this ARC
Wow what a lovely book, seasonal ,emotional I class it as a family saga
A Season for Hope by Rosie Goodwin
Set in Whitby in 1845 Amber Ainsley works for the wealthy Greenwoods. But when Amber falls pregnant with Mr Barnaby Greenwood's illegitimate child, he casts her out, leaving her homeless and without an income.
A heart warming tale by the author who when putting pen to paper ( or if not old school fingers to keyboard ! ) cannot fail to bring her readers great joy .
