This book is so interesting. I enjoyed the authors writing style. It is such a well written book about the beginnings of long covid. It is very readable and not too dry or dense.
Working in a hospital emergency department I see the effects of both Covid infections and long Covid first hand and it can often be debilitating and heartbreaking to see. I found this book incredibly interesting with how it explored the effects of long Covid compared with other chronic or terminal illnesses. I really enjoyed Prior's writing style as it made a topic that can be very daunting and technical pretty easy to read and understand.
4/5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the author, Ryan Prior, for this copy to review.
I was interested to read this one as family members been diagnosed with long covid ….As the global Covid-19 pandemic leaves millions with long-term disabling conditions, the survivors fight for recognition and research, which could ultimately help transform care for many overlooked...well worth reading!
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this arc. This a great book, it is well put together and very informative.
As someone whose husband bas Long Covid, I was eager to get my hands on this book. It was like finding someone speaking my language finally. Prior has dealt with ME/CFS and was dealt the cruel blow of Long Covid as well.
There is every facet of Long Covid in this book: Prior’s experience but also current theories, Long Covid beginnings, various support groups, comparisons to ME/CFS and Lyme disease among many.
I hope at some point books like this aren’t needed but I will use this as a reference book as well.
Thank you for writing and publishing this book.
Written by CNN journalist Ryan Prior who has a personal knowledge of life-changing illness, this book explores the effects of COVID-19 on what we are calling Long Haulers, thousands of people around the world and how many are researching and looking for help for themselves. Eye opening and well written, worth the read.
I did not realize as I requested this book that it was written by someone from CNN. All credibility has gone out the window in my opinion and I will not be finishing it.
Thank you Netgalley and Post Hill Press for an ARC.
(Summary: highly recommended, thoroughly researched, highly actionable)
This book is thoroughly researched, with highly actionable, innovative ideas around how to approach long-term medical issues. Design thinking, the Stockdale paradox, crowdsourcing medical solutions, pre-loading medical appointments, and the e-patient (empowered / expert patient) movement were some of the many concepts I learned about through this book. Highly recommended.
