I really enjoyed my time with this read. As a whole this book threw me for loop after loop and never let go. This was one of my favorite psychological thrillers of the year! There were so many twists and turns, I never knew where this story would end up.

Gripping, intense, and utterly binge-worthy!

With shocking secrets and multiple perspectives adding to the suspense, THE INTRUDER is another twisty, clever cat-and-mouse fast-paced thriller from Daniel Hurst—For readers of Kimberly Belle's My Darling Husband and Kaira Rouda's Somebody's Home.

Who is the cat, and who is the mouse?

Told from POVs: William, Maria (husband/wife), and David (their ex-employee). Timelines: From the present day, three years earlier, and 6/7 mos earlier.

A home intruder out for revenge, unraveling dark secrets and cracks in his former employer's marriage and business. Turning to murders—in this riveting multi-layered thrills by the minute psychological suspense, keeping you on the edge of your seat to the final twisty delicious, and satisfying conclusion.

Meet the Gallaghers - William and Maria. They own a successful advertising company, Gallagher's Ad Agency, and live in a beautiful home with two children, Penny, age 6, and Edward, age 9. They appear to have a perfect marriage, but do they?

They have just won the Best Business Award for 2022.

While they are receiving their award, something more sinister is in the making which will change the course of Gallagher's life.

Meet David Hendricks; an ex-employee fired six months earlier from Gallagher's Ad Agency. He is holding a grudge and will make his employers pay. He wants revenge and is prepared to murder, equipped with a knife.

It involved an allegation against Adelina, another woman who worked in the company, for sexual harassment. But David says it is not valid, and he cannot afford to get an attorney. There was no investigation with HR. Something is not correct. Now he cannot find a job, lost his partner, and has nothing to lose. The Gallaghers will pay. He is out for revenge.

He dresses up in disguise and makes his way to the company where he worked, but after waiting in the office, the owners do not return from the award ceremony. He asks for their address under the disguise of an old friend and makes his way to their home, entering an unlocked door.

However, once inside the house, other events occur, leading them to a different home where William and David are in a house and Maria is left in the car trunk.

Lies, secrets, deceit, betrayal. Evil sins of the past.

This is where things start heating up. You have no clue where the author is taking you, but you are dying to see where it leads and on board for the ride. We soon realize David may be the victim, and William may have dark secrets and will stop at nothing, including murder, to keep those secrets buried.

However, Maria is smarter than William suspects. The twist at the end will keep your heart pounding to the conclusion, which left a smile on my face!

I thoroughly enjoyed THE INTRUDER! The author cranks up the tension with every page turn. I read in one sitting— my favorite Daniel Hurst book.

An utterly compelling thriller with jaw-dropping twists. I enjoy how the author takes readers to places you least expect with an element of surprise, showcasing his talent for exceptional domestic suspense.

I also love the dark humor, narcissistic characters, and multi-layering with the plot twists you do not see coming. All relatable characters. You will be rooting for Maria until the end. What is scary is this could actually occur in real life.

I am looking forward to reading more from this author and currently making my way through his backlist. Highly recommend!

This was a gripping read. I liked the way the plot unravelled and even when you thought you'd got a handle on what was going on something else was added into the equation. I will look out for more books from this author. Thanks, Netgalley!

This book was ok. I feel as if the pros and cons list to reading it very much balance out. Lets start with the good... It was a very fast read. It had that hook quality in which I didn't want to put it down. I love a morally askew character as much as the next person, and this book had some great characters in that sense.

Where I think the book fell short... I think that some of the writing, especially in the beginning of the book, was a little immature. It lacked some definite complexity. While following David, one of the main character of the story, there was a moment where he was speaking in the most basic sentences. "I am wearing a wig and glasses. It is my disguise. I have a knife. It will help me later." Something like that. However this didn't last for long, and the writing style fixed itself in later chapter. I think that it also lacked a "wait.. WHAT" type of twist. Not that every book needs that, but I think this book attempted to have it, but when the twist came I went "oh. ok yeah that makes sense".

The other thing I will say is that I felt like the first half of the book and the second half of the book felt like different stories. The storyline with David and the storyline with Maria and William at the end, while connected, felt very separate. Each story was good in its own sense, but I feel like to be great the each needed more time/pages to be fleshed out into full stories on their own. I just feel like if this story is going to be called "The Intruder" the book should have focused more on... well... the intruder. That part happened very early on in the book and while it wasn't forgotten about, it just didn't seem that pivotal.

At the end of the day though, it was an enjoyable read and I would read stories written by this author again. It was fast and fulfilled a good rush of a suspense/thriller for a day.

This book was creepy from start to finish. I read it in one sitting and then was looking over my shoulder the rest of the day! It was super fast paced and kept me intrigued the whole time. This was my first Hurst novel and I can't wait to continue with other stories!

Wow! I really enjoyed this new domestic thriller by Daniel Hurst. My first book of his but definitely won’t be my last. This had every element you could dream of! There were so many secrets and such twists and turns. And the characters were great! Perfectly developed.
Highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book

Maybe it's just me but I've only read two books by this author and haven't cared much for either of them. The characters aren't developed enough. I never care what happens to them or where the story takes me, honestly. I didn't feel any emotion while reading this one although the story line was interesting enough. I hate leaving bad reviews so I'll just leave it at that. Two Stars.

Thank you Netgalley and Incubator Books for this ARC.

David, an ex-employee of Maria and William who seems to think he was unjustly terminated, decides to do himself justice, picking apart their apparently perfect life, uncovering one shocking secret after the other.
This thriller is told in multiple POV and time lines, but it was easy to follow. I read it in one sitting, a real page turner! It's a quick action driven read with twist after twist and a satisfying ending. When I hate a character so viscerally, I know I'm really invested! I discovered Daniel Hurst only recently, but he is rapidly becoming a favorite author of mine.
I received an advance review copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I had a lot of trouble with this one, unfortunately. I loved the whole idea of the book, but I felt like all of the characters were insufferable and there wasn't a lot of depth to any of them. I had such a hard time getting into it. I did enjoy the ending and was quite pleased with it.

This is without a doubt the best book to date that Daniel Hurst has written. If you’ve ever been wronged by your employer and fantasized about getting even, then you will be able to relate to this book. However ones fantasies are, there is always a twist or two that will send you reeling. This book was packed with lies, deceit and an ending you’ll never predict.

Another Daniel Hurst novel? I’ve read so many, the Passenger is my favorite, and this one is in the middle. The first half is tense and rather good., but once the wife has figured out the husband, it becomes a little predictable but still a good read.

Daniel Hurst is one of my favourite authors and this new book didn’t disappoint.
I raced through it in one sitting and was drawn in from page 1.
The writing is fast paced and engaging and the characters are intriguing.
A great book and one I’d certainly recommend.

I absolutely love Daniel Hurst's book and this one did not disappoint! There are always twists throughout his books and this one certainly had a good few. How well do you really know your loved one? This book certainly shows that life is not always how it seems especially when living a life of luxury is involved.

In my opinion, Daniel Hurst is the best psychological thriller author. His story lines are always fast paced and full of unique plot twists that blow your mind. His characters are interesting and complex. Characters you really want to get to know what makes them tick. This story was everything I mentioned and more. I love when an author keeps me guessing as to where the plot is going next and zings me with a twist so satisfying, I have to stop reading to savor it before I continue on. I enjoyed this thriller immensely and have highly recommended all of his books to my other book friends.

Daniel Hurst is at the top of the Psychological Thriller genre and for good reason! Leaves you upside down from all the twists this book drops!

But when their home is invaded by David, an ex-employee with a score to settle, the couple face a terrifying fight to survive.
During the course of one Hellish night, David picks apart their carefully constructed life, secrets are unearthed, truths revealed.
And soon David begins to wonder if he’s bitten off morel than he can chew because he’s discovering Maria and William are not the defenceless couple he imagined. By the time he realises who these people really are, it may already be too late.
Who will make it out alive?
