Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
The blurb made this book sound suspenseful and thrilling: Janie and Max have a very young baby, Freya, and Janie is struggling psychologically. Max is doing his best to support her despite his own mental health issues. There are details that she has continued to support her parents financially, Max's father is very kind and helpful although his mother is not, and there is a hint of something happening at work. Then Max disappears.
The content includes minute detail of Janie feeding Freya and trying to eat to keep up her own calorie intake and how demanding she finds having a baby to care for- the picture of her poor mental health is built page - by - page but I thought this made the plot too slow in progression. I found it spoilt any suspense and did not engage with Janie's character at all.
I stopped reading at 30%.

My second book by Leah Konen and another really enjoyable one.
You Should Have Told Me is a slow burn of a thriller but intriguing from the start.
I thought it was really clever how Konen incorporated a new Mother's struggles into the plot, it added a different dimension to your standard psychological thrillers.
The tension and pace of the book does ramp up mid way through and it was in the last half that it suddenly became really gripping as the secrets start to unravel. Konen keeps you guessing as to the final outcome and I definitely didn't see it coming.
One I'd recommend for sure.

Thank you for accepting me for this book

Whilst I did really enjoy this book, there was a lot of “filler” information about breast feeding, which was not needed in this book

The book was very clever in the way it unfolded and the truth was revealed

I enjoyed the writers writing style but did feel that the book could have been shorter

What an amazing thriller! The twisty relationship of the couple and the disappearance of one of them is the crux of this dark and surprising story.

I could not relate to too much of the book, as I am not a mother myself and it seemed to put a huge emphasis on this part in the story, but that might be just my opinion and the feeling I gathered from the book.

Overall, the book as a whole, but I could not say I loved it or felt really sucked into the story. An overall ok read, though!

Thank you for the ARC, NetGalley!

Many thanks to the publishing team for my digital copy for review
If you want a gripping, fast paced read then you need to pick this is up. I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it and finished it within one day.
There were so many twists in this book, until the tables turn and the more you delve into the characters and the plot, the suspense gets really high! I really felt for Janine and the reality and hardships of becoming a mother but also trying to keep aligned the role she has in her life too.
I did like the story retracing back to certain points of the plot as it helped to tie the book back to the present. I did feel at times maybe there were too characters so It got a bit much. But the main characters shone through so I didn't mind that much.

You Should Have Told Me is a book that at times I struggled with, I was wanting to read about how this new dad manages to go missing but it was more about the mum and how she was struggling with a newborn.
Janie is a new mum to Freya, she is with partner and baby’s dad, Max. Janie is struggling to bond with Freya fit multiple reasons, whilst they are away in a rented place Max offers to give Freya her night feed so Janie can get some sleep but she wakes up to her daughter screaming and no sign of Max. The next day Max is missing and a woman named Grace is found dead in an alleyway, are these things connected and is Max a murderer now?
This was a book that would have been better if the amount of baby feeding time was cut down, yes I appreciate the author was trying to get across the overwhelming position Janie was in whilst struggling with post natal depression but it did get a little tedious. The plot was good although I don’t think Janie should have been playing her own detective game! I didn’t get the murderer correct so points for that! A decent read just not quite the thriller I was expecting.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Michael Joseph, Penguin Random House for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

A deftly written psychological thriller that explores contemporary issues like maternal mental health, without feeling preachy. Really enjoyed this one!

Janie has just given birth to her first child. A few weeks after her birth she is really struggling and needs her boyfriend Max for support more than ever as she tries to come to terms with being a mum.

When Max goes missing one night and a local woman is murdered, the police come knocking on Janie's door.

Has Max been keeping secrets? Is the man she loves capable of murder? Does she really know him at all?

This is a slow burner (don't let that put you off) and although similar plots have been done before, what I really appreciated was how well the author covered Janie's struggles with being a first time mum, especially with limited support and feeling so helpless, guilty and alone.

This is the second book I have read by Leah and the second I have enjoyed. Look forward to reading more.

Many thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and author for an ARC.

Janie and Max have a newborn, Freya. Janie is struggling with new motherhood, but Max is really supportive. One night he promises to take over the feeding, but in the night Freya is crying and Max is nowhere to be found. After speaking to Max’s parents, Max has form in disappearing. Next, the police are looking for Max in connection to a woman murdered at a bar and her child has been kidnapped.
Janie is determined to find out what has happened to Max and how he is connected in all this.
A fast paced, enjoyable read. You really warmed to the characters which were well developed.

The writing was brilliant and the tension was there throughout with a fantastic ending .I loved the 2 main characters and the problems of raising a new born baby for her . It was just a brilliant read and I can’t wait to find more books from this author . I will definitely be recommending this book to my audience, definitely 5 stars from me .

Awesome. I loved it.
Janie and Max welcomed their newborn daughter, they hoped life would be complete. But six weeks in, Janie is sleep-deprived and struggling to adjust - she relies on Max more than ever. Until the night he doesn't come home. Alone with her baby and desperate for answers, Janie searches for Max. But when a woman's body is found, his disappearance raises serious alarms - for Janie, and for the police. The harder she looks for him, the more Janie realises how much Max has been hiding. And when it becomes clear he's the prime suspect in the murder, Janie faces an awful question:
I loved her every book and this is no exception.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Michael Joseph UK for giving me an advance copy.

A grip worthy book full of twists, you're in for a real treat!

A fast read which will keep you guessing, there is no time for settling in, better keep you reading shoes on because you will be on your feet constantly with this one! It really is bone chilling to think you know someone but actually you do not, even when they're the only person in your world, you may not be the only one in theirs!

The main character is wonderfully written and is actually really very strong, we get the impression that she is vulnerable as she is a new mother, sleep exhausted and her boyfriend, her dote is actually not all that he seems, so may deceptions, secrets, who really is Max?

It'll keep you guessing until the very end, and you will love it!

I thoroughly enjoyed it, it's just what the doctor ordered! With thanks to netgalley and the publishers for my free ARC in return for my review!
