A lovely book to dip in and out of throughout the year. Such a pleasure to read of the changing seasons and habits of wildlife, and interesting recipes too. The beautiful illustrations and cover added to my enjoyment, in fact I think I'd like one of these little almanacs every year. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to enjoy this book.

This is a delightful little book full of interesting facts and information.
Each month covers topics such as moon phases, sea temperatures, sunset and sunrise times and nature.
I'm sure I shall find the important dates listed for each month very useful.
This book is such a little treasure that I know that I will be dipping into it throughout the year.
It would make an ideal Christmas gift.
Thank you NetGalley for an arc.

Throughly enjoyable seasonal book, particularly loved the recipes for each month - I have enjoyed making them and planning our garden around the help off this book 😊, each month is beautifully illustrated which I really liked as well . Overall I found the book really enjoyable it was the first time I have read anything like this and I will be buying a copy in future for reference.

I started reading this late last year and have been dipping into it ever since. I never knew I needed an Almanac (aren’t they for farmers?) until I read this…

It's a treasure trove of seasonal nature and I adore seeing what's in store each month. I love the blend of natural science and mythology, with recipes and folk songs. It's also beautifully illustrated.

From moon phases and tide times, to mythology and astronomy, from what’s happening in ponds to recipes and folk songs… this month by month guide informs and inspires.

What's not to love about an almanac, I'm obviously still not half way through this but have enjoyed learning the months I have done up until now.

As a child and teenager I had a fascination for Almanacs so was delighted to receive a copy of this 2023 one by Lia Leeddertz. It a lovely looking book with gorgeous illustrations,

Each month contains a mine of information such a notable dates for all occasions ands religions, visibility of the planets, tide tables, moon phases. gardening advice, recipes, folk songs, zodiac information and nature. I will be taking some sections such as 'Gardening by the moon' and 'Zodiac' with a pinch of salt but it's fun to read them all the same.

A lovely book to dip in and out of during 2023.

A beautiful collection of tales and inspiration to help us admire each season. I love having the handy temperature rises and daylight times at my fingertips and the recipes throughout are a beautiful touch. This guide is essential to help keep us grounded in the moment, mindful in nature and in touch with the beauty of each season rather than wishing our year away.

‘The almanac - a seasonal guide to 2023’ is a beautiful book. I haven't finished it; in fact, I've only dipped in. But I've seen enough to know I'll be revisiting it throughout the year, because that is the whole point of the book - it's an almanac. The description says it better than I ever can:

Reconnect with the seasons in Britain and Ireland with this month-by-month guide to the world around us - including key dates, tide tables and garden tasks; constellations and moon phases; sunrises, folk songs, seasonal recipes plus a 'bun of the month'; and - because 2023 will be a good year for planet spotting - the solar system and the zodiac.

Even as I flicked through the Almanac, I found myself reconnecting with the seasons. Each entry starts with a list of celebrations and holidays and has a description of the month and what to look out for in nature, beautifully written, full of wisdom and hope by Lia Leendertz.

From best gardening times, celestial events, tidal timetables - it's full of fascinating little tips and insights and I'm already looking forward to opening it at the start of each month. The recipes were especially welcome and although not one for astrology, I found the history of the zodiac signs and greek mythology to be fascinating.

It's easy to drift through our days, not even noticing the changes that are happening around us. Dara McAnulty made me think about this a lot this year on my walks. I’ve made more of an effort to take off my earbuds and to look and listen to nature.

I only have a PDF of ‘the almanac - a seasonal guide to 2023’ on loan from Netgalley, and it only lasts for a couple of months, so I may splash out for a copy. This would also make a great gift. and the hardback would make a nice companion piece for a coffee table. A word too for the wonderful cover and the book is also gorgeously illustrated by Whooli Chen.

I always buy this almanac as it is beautiful and sets the year out clearly. I love the slightly different aspects to each year. After seeing the preview I will definitely be purchasing again. I will also be buying this as a gift for friends and recommending at my bookclub.

A combination of practical and whimsical, this almanac has everything you need to know for the year ahead when it comes to tides, phases of the moon, celestial events, best gardening times, traditional celebrations, and more.
I particularly enjoyed the lyrical writing at the beginning of each month's section, where the month is summed up "at a glance" with the unique atmosphere of the season, as well as a bit of gentle advice for how to make the most of it.

This is a lovely little book that really helps you to connect with the seasons, the natural world and the things going on around you that you might not normally notice. From the basic standard expectations from this kind of book, like sunrises and sunsets, phases of the moon and the tide timetables, to what plants to grow and when, and even some seasonal recipes for each month. This book really does aid you to take a step back and pay attention to the world and how you can interact with it.

I love the illustrations for each month title page. The way the illustrator has incorporated the zodiac signs with the seasonal plants really gives you a quick visual snapshot of the month ahead. It is a great little companion book to get hold of and refer back to throughout the year!

This is my second year reading Almanac and I found that this year has been more interesting. I have always been fond of the change in the weather, tide times and seasonal foraging.
I believe this book is such a great pocket guide for an outdoors person.
The only downside is that this book can be accessed only in the app and can't be sent to your Kindle therefore I won't be able to access this after two months which is disappointing really because book shares information month by month and what to look out for.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC.

I love the almanac. It’s consistently brilliant year on year, giving the reader time to pause and reflect on the month ahead and the nature joys that will bring. I always buy a hard copy and it’s my evening reading companion through the year. Can’t wait to get this new one in hard copy.

Helpful and informative guide for the whole year. I love the Greek mythology story inside the book for each zodiac sign and absolutely the recipes! Since I don't live in the same time zone as this book set, I need to adjust the time myself for using the moon phase calendar. However I found this book is a precious possession for one to go through the next year

The Almanac: A Seasonal Guide to 2023
by Lia Leendertz

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: reference

I've always been an outdoor girl, a lover of nature. Brought up in a family where Sunday mornings meant looking to see what Adam the Gardener had to say for the upcoming week, and with Nan's readings from Old Moore's almanac I love this sort of book. I have it as an epub on my pc, but tbh I'd love to buy the book as a to-hand reference. I think books like this are one of the few that are better in print than on kindle/pc.
Its a fabulous mix of plants and the stars, recipes for the month, tide tables etc, a real nature lovers journal. I plan on reading each month next year at the end of the previous one, looking at whats ahead, whats in store. It reminds me of how big the world is, how long its been going and really how minute and shallow our place in it is.
Beautifully illustrated, it would make a great gift for any lover of the natural world.

Stars: five. A fabulous read to treasure and dip into each month.
