Henry Hoffman's Solitaire is a fast-moving, intriguing mystery that takes place in the Sierra Nevada near Reno. Private investigator Adam Fraley is being hunted by a sniper in this remote area as he looks for a missing person. The mystery involves drug smuggling, living off the grid, even references to the historic Donner party. Solving the mystery of the strange, eponymous, and small and isolated store, Solitaire, challenges Adam and eventually the agents he asks for help. Hoffman's descriptions of the store, its contents, the drug runner disguised as a storekeeper, and the surroundings carefully set the scene. Shadow, the dog Fraley encounters and finds a vet to tend to, is yet another contributing character in the book. This mystery is really a great read: it goes fast; it has well delineated characters; the plot is clever; and the descriptions of Fraley following the "bad guys" keeps the reading guessing.

When Andy’s friend Cal ask him to find a A missing guy who left to live off the grid in Nevada he takes the case during his investigation he will find a store in the middle of nowhere A dog also in the middle of nowhere, a historian with things to hide and a foundation who isn’t as charitable as they would want people to believe even though his investigation didn’t meet with openness and honesty it seems the closer he gets the uncovering the truth about the missing guy and all the reasons he’s missing the more deadly than investigation is. I have never read a book about this particular investigator but I love the Andy and his wife I thought it was a very smart investigation I love how kind Andy was to shadow there isn’t anything not to like about this book I loved it!
